I enjoy declutter videos when they include explanations like YOURS!! Not only do I get to peek at your collection (fun cuz I’m nosy) but I also get the benefit of your experience with them. This must have been very time consuming…so thank you!
I recently realized that I had been holding on to some cream blushes that I think I bought in 2014/15 simply because Lisa Eldridge had recommended them in her early tutorials. I wasn’t even still using them- I had panned one completely and hit pan on another- but I thought I needed to find an exact color dupe even though my tastes had changed in TEN YEARS. 👀 We humans are strange creatures. Thank you for the reminder to really examine your materials, reduce the visual noise, and to make space for the things that you are loving right now. ❤
Extremely sentimental people get it! I think it’s helpful to understand *why* we are attached to an object so we can hold onto that meaning while letting go of the signifier (the blush, lipstick, etc.) 💓
I got into makeup about the same time as you. I’m not letting go of those 5+ years products until they go off. 😂 Things I learned… there is no point collecting all of a blush or lipstick line.
Loved this!! Also reminded me that I need to get rid of my Lisa Eldridge velvet lipsticks that I bought right when they launched and that I never reach for anymore because I find them kinda drying 🥲🥲🥲🥲
I hear you, same. I rarely reach for a matte lipstick these days unless it’s a red lip. Which is maybe 5% of the time haha. Forever inspired by your project pan efforts! I feel like you deserve an award for panning the Becca bronzer 🏆
So much good information in here I sat down and have just really enjoyed listening to your thoughts. If something smells off or is old or dried out it's GONE. That being said I am on a lipstick ban because I have too many lipsticks. I panned one last year and am working my way through another one but I need to be serious about using what I own and not just hoarding it because it will go bad. Eyeshadow is also a weakness but since its powder I am way more forgiving. Project panning has helped majorly in using up all my old but expensive things so now I have a clearly idea of what I own in all categories. It's still a hard process though because wanting to buy new things and using what I own I cannot imagine how much harder getting PR is although I am sure there is a lot of joy in it too.
As always, I thouroughly enjoy your content ❤ I totally relate regarding the emotional support products, there's a few I can't let go of myself (the Marc Jacobs Tan-Tastic bronzer 😢 - amongst others). I hope you and Sean are well. Greetings from Belgium 🧇🍫
Aw, hello! I also have a Marc Jacobs palette I can’t let go of, ha. I’ve heard some rumors that the brand is being revamped, but haven’t seen any official announcement yet. I hope so!
Thank you for sharing what worked for you and what didn’t and why…so helpful! I’ve loved luxury makeup since I was a teenager (paid for with part-time job), but I went really crazy during lock down and bought more makeup than I could ever use. I de-cluttered/gave away to friends and now try to be very considered in my purchasing.
I LOVE metric too, I am from Toronto where they are from. I remember seeing them many times during my university years when they were cool back in the day. The whole Arts & crafts artists were so cool back in the day.
I loved this video so much, I subscribed. I love declutters and this was so informative! I have become so sick of buying things and have really enjoyed using up products and only buying replacements.
This has me feeling like I need to go through my stash and chuck some stuff, because I definitely have some super expired stuff that has no place going on my face anymore (UD Electric palette anyone??).
Thank you!! It’s a bit of a lip cocktail: Tower 28 OneLiner in Work of Art howl.me/cllxUbNnFTB Makeup by Mario Lipstick in Dumbo/Soho mixed howl.me/cloUu2Q6q3O
I have myself on a foundation no buy until I use up my existing collection. I have three shades of the PMG foundation and it’s my all time favourite so I am not about to let that expire on me 😂 in the summer I’m going to get the new Shisedo foundation and I’m keen to try the about face because the shade undertones look really great
Oh thank you! It’s a bit of a cocktail: Tower 28 OneLiner in Work of Art howl.me/cllxUbNnFTB Makeup by Mario Lipstick in Dumbo/Soho mixed howl.me/cloUu2Q6q3O I was actually surprised at how well it stayed on through two hours of filming. I didn’t retouch once!
So 100 agree about “clean” beauty. Either make the items small enough to be used within a reasonable timeframe for the size, or use preserves. It’s wasteful and counterproductive. Seems more like posturing than an actual value system. IMO.
I’m with you on the clean beauty frustration. It was all for marketing hype with no science to back it and they expire so quickly. I’m so over it
so. over. it.
My merrit highlighter went off in less than a year! It smelled horrendous… I am not buying those brands anymore. Over it.
Same, it’s the dumbest thing people have fallen for. I don’t buy anything that says it’s clean beauty for obvious reasons.
yess preservatives are so important!!

So true about not collecting a whole shade range. I usually only want 2/3 shades max anyway!

Thank you for your thoughtful explanations on empties and decluttering. That price difference between 2022 and 2023 is wild!
It shocked me too!
Bring back parabens
Great video. Loved your rationales for repurposing or eliminating some of your collection. Very helpful way for us to down-size incrementally!

I just love this kind of videos!!! I will start my spreadsheet for 2024, because I need to know how much I spend in beauty!
It’s an interesting practice for us detail-oriented people! 🥲

A tough lesson to learn, but a useful one! I’m with you 🤍☀️
I need to go through and do a declutter as well. I’m also doing a sort of project pan this year because I am tired of throwing away expired products.
Thank you for your honest opinion on those makeup products.
I got my lisa eldridge original lipsticks at the end of 2019 too. Still them and never wear them anymore.
I LOVE metric too, I am from Toronto where they are from. I remember seeing them many times during my university years when they were cool back in the day. The whole Arts & crafts artists were so cool back in the day.
nostalgia 🥲❤️🔥
Yay! I JUST ordered dumbo yesterday!

So happy to hear this resonated with you, and welcome!

It’s a good feeling to let go!
Loved this video ❤
This is so helpful! Thank you so much!! You look stunning as usual!!
Thank you!!
Ooooh Bekah, what’s on your lips?! I’ve sworn off buying lip products as I have so many but I’d make an exception for that one 😆
Thank you!! It’s a bit of a lip cocktail:

PMG Suc-sexxy was discontinued IIRC. I have a backup of it- one of my favorite summertime shades😢.
Great roundup, thank you!
It is! 😩 I tried to look it up when I was working on this caption. RIP.

Yes!!! Don’t be like me 🥲
What top are you wearing? 👀❤
I really need to do this! Much of my collection is emotional support. Also, what lipstick are you wearing? It’s a beautiful matte?

Do you have opinion on glossier solar paint?
I actually never ended up trying it!
i loved the merit highlighter, but smelled like play doh from day one 😫

Honestly, better to use $7k+ worth of product up completely than touch it once and throw it away 😂
Agreed 🥲 and this video was a good reminder for me to pass on products while there’s still life in them
