oh no, I threw 167 in high school. My best in college is 151 ft. And you may have gone against my father. He was also on the rowing team. That's pretty awesome that your ranked nationally. I admire your passion for the sport. I hope I still have it in me when I reach that age! Too awesome!
I'm currenlty throwing at North Georgia. It's a small senior military college in the mountains. I'm a senior and have only been throwing for two years in college, so I still have two years of eligibility left, so I'm trying to get into grad school and still throw, I'm looking at Northern Arizona or VT. Track is fairly new to the peachbelt. In high school my best was 167, but in practice I had some around 180, but never in a meet.
I'm 5th US and 24th World in my age group (55-59). But it's only a 1.5k discus (slightly smaller but goes just about as far as a HS disc). Congrats on your 167+ after only two years of collegiate competition; that's great.
Thanks. As an older thrower (late 50s) who is still throwing reasonably well for an old guy (41 meters) I am finding that my stiffness is hurting me the most. It does seem to me that the elites have much more flexibility and whip -- I have all the power and speed I need.
Oh, I'm also going to be doing the shot and the javelin this season. My father threw the discus at UCLA when Barnes was around, so he got me into it. Where you looking at applying to college at?
Holy shit Gerd Kanter on the last part!!! Dmn i thought this was just a nice nornal great competition but seein gerd there makes me feel that was a serious high level competition
wow that's not bad. Are you still using a 2k discus. I thought maybe for that age group the weight decreases, but still 41 isn't bad at all. I'm recovering from an injury and that's what I'm currently throwing around, but yeah, the twist motion is great, but I don't put more than 25 pounds weights on and I rotate slowly! Best of luck to you.
@EndlersaurusRex I agree with you seen him before. Do you by chance know who is the guy from 0:09 -0:18 sec is? I have been trying to find out what his name is and see more videos of him?
if youre watching this video and wanting some help improving your form or just have questions, Im an experienced thrower and im confident that I could answer your questions and help you understand the throws technique better. Please post to my discussion wall If you want help
I have a question that no one may answer, but what the heck. What exercise or exercises do you find most useful for increasing FLEXIBILITY (whip) in the final delivery?
this is my first year of throwing discus and im a jr. in high school i started about 3 weeks ago and i threw about 130 today im 6ft tall and 155 lbs is this good for my weight and height?
@darnoc698 Ian is not 300 or 6'4" he went to the same high school i just graduated from and he coached me at some clinics (really cool guy) and is about 260 and 6'2" maybe 6'3"
@firemakinjoe my over all form is good but for some reason when i release discus it comes out wobbly. I have a good grip, but i dont understand whats making it come out wrong. any tips?
@guitar69legend Really? It does look like him I checked his videos before I guess he has a unique finish at the end. Its hard to tell I only seen him throw with sweats. Thanks guys for the info.
@afunk93 I've stood next to him and seen him next to my brother who is trying to throw discus at an elite level (my brother is 6'4"). He's marginally (an inch, tops) taller than me (I'm 6 feet), and tiny next to my brother. Not tall, but very strong, so he looks larger. He's like 6'1" 260
lol, I stand with an olympic bar on my shoulders, behind my neck, and twist left to right, right to left several time. Add some weight, but not too much because you can hurt urself.
hey i know if your watchin this vid you must actually care so what do all you guys throw? and what year are you? im the best freshman in my conference at 115 ft but idk how that compares... plz reply
throwing 50 feet in the power position is very bad still. Although you did just say you just learned it. but give it time. I dont think you should even work on rotating until you get 80 feet on a stand still throw.
This is a beautiful discus video :) Arguably the best single-meet discus compilation on RUclips
Best Discus video on youtube.
favorite new throwing video..
The stability in Kanter's throws is just amazing!
hi!! i'm 15 and i have been throwing discus for about 2 years!!! i love it!!

Ian Waltz has a great sweep leg coming out of the back and a good right foot pivot in the middle.
Still very good. I threw 154 in college and was one of the best in my D1 conference -- a long time ago!
Just saying, I love this video so much, its improved my form just looking at the video a few times, thanks man.
sick video love most of the peoples technique to bits
Man I love Jarred Rome. Coached me at the IWT camp. Stellar thrower.

Same here but I'm in 8th grade. I broke our school record. Got a 134 with a MS disk and still improving every day.
@POLYBEARSNM33 I'm not sure. His technique looks very similar to Knut Hjeltnes of Norway, but it's hard to tell.

@darnoc698 Ian is not 300 or 6'4" he went to the same high school i just graduated from and he coached me at some clinics (really cool guy) and is about 260 and 6'2" maybe 6'3"
@nellidanunez i think thats gaute mykleburst of norway.. 62-63m thrower
@EndlersaurusRex Yeah it is definitely not 6'4" though He is a good sized guy standing next to him but not that big
@firemakinjoe my over all form is good but for some reason when i release discus it comes out wobbly. I have a good grip, but i dont understand whats making it come out wrong. any tips?
Does anyone know who the guy from 0:09-0:18 sec is? I have been trying to find out his name and look at some mroe videos of him.
sweet video
who is the guy at :22 seconds in with the white singlet?
where can i get a discus training wieght?
@guitar69legend Really? It does look like him I checked his videos before I guess he has a unique finish at the end. Its hard to tell I only seen him throw with sweats. Thanks guys for the info.
WHAT SONG IS THIS?????
Can anyone name this song for me please? great video btw.
He's like 6'1" 260
Who is the second thrower?
i think with the lighter weight, you can focus more on form and your technique. using 6 or 8 pounder with help with strenght.
Who is the guy in slomo around 1:00?
wow amazing throw CAN ANYONE give me tips on my form? much appreciated!!!
@NoobsSuckx7
thats really good in my state that might place you in state or get you close
The person who disliked the video, probably hit the pole.
who is it 30 seconds
is the guy at 0:07 jay silvester?

the guy at 2:19 in my opinion has the best form
@StarryDay55 hey u have something against girls??

what makes this "professional" discus form?
@jcollins800 i remember him
lol, I stand with an olympic bar on my shoulders, behind my neck, and twist left to right, right to left several time. Add some weight, but not too much because you can hurt urself.

i mean it's ok if you don't like it but to say you dislike it... how???
@NoobsSuckx7 ,
HELL YES IT IS! If anybody else tells you otherwise then they're a fool
throwing 50 feet in the power position is very bad still. Although you did just say you just learned it. but give it time. I dont think you should even work on rotating until you get 80 feet on a stand still throw.
I can stand throw 35m/114f and full throw 45m/147f in training with 1kg discus and im 14
@firemakinjoe for a freshman that is really good. you'll be a good disc thrower some day. man the frshman at my school throw about 60 haha
who is the guy at 2:50?
Looks like one of the Arrhenius brother's.
I was like ehh... OMG KANTER!!!!! lol
@TheArchorGod 2.0kilos (4.4 lbs)
sure it does, but umm, why would you? In college, I use a 8 pound ball and make sure I follow through.
@afunk93 I wouldn't even give him 6'2", honestly.
lars reidel
One person disliked cause they got hit in da head by a Discus
broken wing-thousand foot krutch
is it only me or do the most of the americans in this vid lose the power from the hip?
No, but the top discus throwers can make a living with some prize money and sponsorships.
@safty30 Niklas arrhenius
0:37= foul
I might have thrown against your Dad!
