I've lived here for 31 years, everything stated is true. One thing I'd like to add (maybe I missed it though......lol) is that when it's way hot the humidity is often in the single digits. When you sweat, it cools you off rather than makes you more miserable..........
As a resident of Las Vegas for over 10 years, I would rather deal with the weather in Reno than the summers of Las Vegas anytime. Vegas only has 2 seasons...Hot and Cold!!!!
I agree with you! I lived in Vegas for two years and those summers are rough! Reno > Las Vegas in regards to weather. I would have to say that Vegas restaurants are top-notch compared to Reno.
My family and I are trying to move to Reno from Cali. Hubby and our two young ones. We constantly visit truckee and Lake Tahoe. Is it true you have to live for two yrs before buying?
The new Cold Springs is the hidden gem of the Reno area. A clean town, a new 2 story elementary school, new Junior high and soon a new high school. Very safe to live in. It's a Diamond area weather your retired of which we have a large retired community or you want safe schools for your children to attend. Weather is cool in the summersl compared to other areas.
The growth issue is a pretty universal problem for many cities these days. And most cities have done no planning with infrastructure or amenities. Hopefully that all changes soon.
Reno's traffic cannot get as bad as Silicon Valley where the the only window without major traffic james on ALL freeways in the area is between 11:00am - 2:00 pm.
I am born and raised in the SF Bay area California and thinking about relocating to Reno In the next Year or so. Just keeping my options open and doing some research.
How are the monthly utility bills though on a typical 3bd 2bath, 2 car garage and/or 1 bedroom apartment 😅i.e. lights, gas, water, trash 🚮 and the average rent of a 1 bedroom apartment in mostly safe half decent neighborhood…Thank you for your contribution.
Loving everything about Reno, from the people, to the hospitals -Renown, Northern Nevada Medical Center, Saint Mary’s (named after a saint) even the Saint Francis Hotel sign on Virginia by the Palace Pawns, to the events (love the rib cook off, tomato squash, Reno rodeo) jobs to the housing market, prostitution is legal here (the only state for the lonely where it’s legal) and weather. Easy living here, I would have to literally be stupid to leave this place. Low crime, wonderful police, I have a good paying job, a house, beautiful wife. I love Governor Sisolak and what he’s doing here, Catherine Cortez Masto, Jacky Rosen. In fact these three care so much about NV Catherine is doing everything to protect us Nevadans from the Corona virus as it’s on the rise with the Delta Variant. Simply I LOVE RENO. :) nothing bad to say about it from the scant population of homeless, to the low crime rate, to the low unemployment- I honestly cannot think of one bad thing about Reno NV.
Hey Eric, I think you would enjoy it up here! I lived in Vegas for a couple of years too. We have a lot of job opportunities up here, I would recommend looking into it. You can find cheaper apartments, but in the nicer areas you’re looking in the $1400-2000 range. Let me know if you have any other questions.

The traffic in Reno really isn’t that bad. Every city has bad hours and that’s in the morning and evening. When people get off work and are heading to school. I haven’t lived in Vegas in 8 years, but I’ve been back several times. It frustrates me, as a long-time Reno resident, that people move from states like California to get away from the high taxes, high crime, and quite frankly, politicians who are ruining their state. They come here to escape that, and then vote for the same laws and politicians that are the type that ruined California. If you want to turn here into there, stay there.
I hated living in Reno, we left after my son's first bday and never looked back. I live in a large Texas city now that's got tons to do, diverse, friendly and just a nicer place, better events, better shopping, better housing, big city life. Reno was difficult due to all of the gambling and it's after effects... alcoholism, homelessness, depression, lots of cheating and marital instability. It sure was sad to see all that and made existence there quite miserable. There was Tahoe which is WONDERFUL and being only a couple hours away from San Francisco was a real bonus. I never got to Burning Man but that seemed pretty awesome and I loved seeing all the people going up there, they would fill up the town of Reno on their way to the desert. Mt.
