God I miss Gym Leaders having their own theme. Elesa's is the best.
Nimbasa City is seen as the entertainment capital of Unova. Of course Elesa would have the best theme.
I love how much they fit their respective Gym leaders too. Elesa's incorporates elements of pop and feels at home with the runway setting, and Roxie's is literally a banger of a punk rock theme. It was so awesome

@@garrygrapenuts6137 Do note that B/W were hated/widely criticized when they were released. Which lead to GameFreak going more in the nostalgia direction with X & Y.
With the release of B2/W2, reception was positive, with most of the praise being on that the old Pokemon more readily more available.
Here's some review from back in 2010s of when the game was released.
" If this is the final Pokemon game for the DS it's going out with a whimper not with a bang. I am not saying that Black and White 2 is a bad game it is the same game all over yet again. You start with the same starter Pokemon from Black and White and build up it stats all over again. What I would have liked to see is that you pick all of the starters Pokemon from all the regions such as Bulbasaur or Charmander. When a new Pokemon game comes out for the 3DS GameFreak needs to totally rebuild this series from top to bottom. "
"Pokemon Black and White 2 are one of the best entries in the series so far. There are a mixture of small and big changes, but all make the game feel fresh. The simple inclusion of pre-Unova Pokemon and new starting towns helps the starting zone feel new and exciting. "
"In comparison with Pokemon Black and White, versions 2 give more than enough additional content and catchable Pokemon early in the game to make them feel brand new, yet it has enough references and similarities to make it at least a sequel. When X/Y was released, looking at the review at the time, it was widely praise. With most of the past criticism, now modern, being that game was too easy, story too simplistic, rivals too nice, etc.
And note that with X/Y, that the Kanto starters being pickable. And that X/Y also have the smallest amount of new Pokemon. Yet it was still widely praised at the time, which probably lead to GameFreaking thinking that innovation was discouraged. Since B/W introduced more "new" stuff than the previous entries at the time. But was more criticized than X/Y, again, at the time.

I love how Unova's gym themes had variations depending on their leaders, they should have kept that in other games.
Agreed. Although sometimes they got a little TOO far. BW2 Clays gym was almost unrecognisable as a Gym Theme.

I don't think it's a matter of not trying.. just creative burnout.
They've been making pretty much nothing but pokemon for... 26 years now.
Of their entire catalogue of 36 games (37 if you count Giga Wrecker Alt as a separate game from Giga Wrecker), only 15 have not been pokemon (again, 16 if you count Giga Wrecker Alt as it's own game)
I think they just want to do something different at this point. But it's not like Nintendo has a whole subsidiary dedicated to Pokemon media and side game development they could move production to.... oh wait, they do: The Pokemon Company.
In all seriousness, Nintendo needs to take a page from Sega's book at this point. Sega has a few subsidiaries that are essentially teams dedicated to the handling of various franchises under their control, most notably, and first to pop into my head: Sonic Team, who handles the development of Sonic games, and the Phantasy Star Crew, who have been handling the series since the release of PSO2.
@@kambuchanan9876 nah they are too battle and catch focussed they left out all the major story writing now and make 1 to none side plots, nothing extra to do after you beat the game besides catch Pokémon really, no Join Avenue, no Safari, no full PWT with the designs we love, no battle frontier, no mystery locations with ghost girls leading you to legendaries, no TV at midnight in haunted areas, no xtransevier for calling old buddies to challenge to a rematch, no PokeSports, no bug catching days, less Legendary hunts, no mysterious areas for exclusive hunt Pokémon such as Volcarana, no deep sea temple, no double region, not enough clothing types and colors (they lack crop tops and more shoe types and still don’t have hair accessories), no hidden grottos, no secret bases, no mining, no pokestar studio, no musicals, no coordination shows, no medals, no passerby surveys, and so much more that they used to do that they completely quit all together that used to make Pokémon so exciting to the point you could play 1000 hours and still not get bored.

I think they try, they are just not given the time needed for a good 3d game. With the show, the cards, all the merch NEEDING a new game to come out every few years, it really rushes the team.

I remember going into the gym learning the relocation from the prior game and was like, “okay, probably another theme park gimmick”. Boy was so wrong and I loved the way they had this theme in there. Unique and exciting, an amazing theme from the sequels of B/W. Thanks for the awesome remaster, Zame!
I would love for them to go back to this kind of style. Every Gym Leader had personality and their variation of the gym leader theme reflected this. One of the reasons why I love Unova. Elesa became my favorite gym leader here

Reflexive audio (The changing of SFX or music based on the actions of the player) is one of my favorite game mechanics ever, and I will forever harbor some hate for the PMC that they never brought it back. This shits golden.
