Thanks for the list buddy. Just finished building my 7.1.4 setup and Alien Romulus was one of the first movies I watched. When the facehugger runs towards the characters while the camera rotates was awesome, the details and sound positioning throughout were diamond perfection 👍
Not sure what's up with alien romulus, but the center channel is super weak, :( It sounded extremely good in the theater. Actually, I ended up upgrading my in a box home theater to a full Klipsh rp series sound system with svs sub. And i still have issues hearing the center channel. I have to boost the center by like 5-8db. Before you say, what would be the issue; other movies are fine! It's this movie! Also when the ship hits the hangar there is a low pulsing lfe sound but sounds nothing like in the theater. Yeah yeah... cant compare 1 sub to a theater but my svs is more than capable to shake my room and my couch yet that scene sounds NOTHING like in the movie theater. The whole theater was shaking like crazy at that scene! Btw, I have two subwoofers. svs sb2000pro and an 8" klipsch c308swi as near field lfe. I usually have to back them down because the bass is too much. Yet again.. even if I sound like a broken record: that scene just doesn't hit the same :/ So I am certain that the blue ray audio mix is funky.
@@CSOCSO Check if the other films you are comparing to have different soundtrack encoding, perhaps you've inadvertently got different settings/presets enabled to come on for Atmos vs TrueHD vs Digital Plus vs DTS? I used to think DTS soundtracks were better than Dolby, till I realised it's because only Dolby has Dynamic Range Compression (DRC), once turning that off in my blu-ray player settings they match.

Alien movie, awesome bass at the end of the movie when the hybrid comes out of.. … there is a solid bass line, that just gets louder and heavier throughout the scene!! 🎉 Start the movie at 1:38 to hear the craziest bass I’ve heard this year!! 🎉🎉
It’s sad that people will watch these movies on streaming services and won’t understand what you are talking about. The best audio and video is experienced with Blu-ray / UHD or kaleidoscope, no streaming comes close.
Godzilla minus one on Netflix, at least in the UK, is surprisingly good actually, it still has a big dynamic range and I didn't notice any limiting, unlike their version of Dune which suffered horribly from that.
While I think audio and video is good on streaming services, for sure physical disc is next level. Plus quite often, streaming services will often give you regular 5.1 as opposed to Atmos or DTS:X.
Civil war not in the top 10 ? ? ? Wow ! Probably the best I've heard this year, maybe furiosa just pips it due to more action. Other than that , excellent list .
@@irish7460 I am using upfiring Atmos and it was already rocking the ceiling with sound. But don't expect it to be a soldier story ... the movie title is kind of misleading. I too rate this movie 6.5 to 7 out of 10.
I recently picked up Gozilla -1.0 4K Blu-ray, the US release. I don't think there's any discrete subwoofer at all, at least on the Japanese Atmos track... haven't listened to the English TrueHD track.. The only sub you'll get is if you're bass-managing your main channels there. I guess the -1.0 means the subwoofer.

Great list! I personally felt that Dune 2 was my favourite this year, in my theatre. I just watched Alien Romulus a week ago and was impressed, but not as much as with Dune. Great reviews buddy!
Yeah, i thought Twisters was going to blow me away. But it didn't.. To me, i thought Dune 2 & Minus One was tied for number 1. The Best Atmos i heard all year.. Aliens Romulus was good but i'll make that #2.. This year the Slate of movies looks like we gonna hav some serious Demo sound. Can't wait. Keep it Loud without earplugs - lol...
Since i seen the first trailer of Boy Kills World, I was excited to see this movie. I watched your review and others and seen the "lack of HDR" and held off on buying...read on AV forums also stating No HDR. I purchased from amazon for $15 because of the low price. Received today and on the back of the slipcase and case it states HDR. Played the disc on my Panasonic UB820 and 77" Samsung S90D and BAM...BEAUTIFUL HDR. Sitting here thinking "Am I the only one with HDR on this disc?" My tv is running in gamma ST.2084 which is HDR...also if i click quick settings, picture mode has HDR stated...BUT...HERE IS THE KICKER...If you stop the movie, not pause, stop the movie and hit play to go resume...its no longer in HDR...you have to completely restart the movie in order to get HDR to come "back on"!!! My UB820 also says HDR when i restart...so is this release just glitched?!? Because if i do not stop the film I get PHENOMENAL HDR...I can send you video proof of this happening...its crazy! Would love a response!
Great list, Shane! Glad to see Alien Romulus getting some much deserved love. Honorable mentions for me would be: 1) Bad Boys: Ride or Die. 2) The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. 3) Godzilla x Kong (though not nearly as good a mix as Godzilla vs Kong)
Curious as to how you watched Abigail in Atmos? Got the Blu-ray recently and it's only 7.1. Similarly Smile 2? Didn't think it was yet for home viewing.
I would add Deal Pool and Wolverine to Honorable mention too. It is exceptionally satisfying to watch the 3D version with the Atmos track, what an experience. The 3D visual effect is also amazing, easily one of the best.
@iansteventon4221 Yeah good shout. Both in Dolby for me.The trailer for 'Warfare' coming later this year looks like it will be even more intense than CW (same director/sound team)
@@cforkel I can agree with you. You could place Dune 2 as number one and Alien Romulus as number 2. But hear me out on this one. I have a high end Home theatre set up and while Dune 2 is a really robust and a finesse room filling mix that’s very clear and dramatic. The Alien Romulus mix overall can be considered better or more entertaining because it seems to be constantly entertaining you throughout the movie with its sound mix. Seldom does it just settle down into a lot of dialogue like Dune 2 does many times throughout the film… The best Atmos mix I’ve ever heard in my system is Denis Villenueve’s Blade Runner 2024. So far nothing beats it. Dune 1 and 2 come close.
I don't recall if it's Don't Breath 1 or 2 but there is a scene where the bad guys are walking thought the house and only the height channel are active. Very rare do you see only the height active. It's small movies like this that will not make any list that that are better than major releases.
@@therealshanelee I'm surprised by your take. The directional sounds were really immersive for shooting sequences on my separates 7.1.4 setup. LFE was very good. I thought you reviewed this but did a quick search and don't see it. I don't have an Atmos viewer so I can't visually see the data but from a listening perspective it offered a lot.
@@alim998097 I recall the bomb at the start had good extension, shootouts at mid and end of the movie had decent panning. The rest of the movie they were on a road trip to Washington. Hardly making the top 10.

Good sound is 80% the fun because u feel it. However realise not all Atmos 4ks deliver as promised....not much in the height channels and in LFE lower end. This is why these reviews are important ....ATMOS can kinda be a marketing gimic buzz word since there are also great 7.1 DTS HD and DTSX films that will beat Atmos....one i watched recently "Jack Reacher" tom cruise.

Well you made me go check. I can see the active meters in the trinnov that there is a dedicated LFE track on the Japanese version.

i just watched Dune 2 for the first time the other day on 4k UHD on my 7.4.4 and omg... so so good!!!
Twisters audio mix is a joke. People outwhisper the tornado. Original was awesome. Hail hitting the car. the debris, the wind levels. Perfect!!!

Great list , but Twister isnt new , the Atmos track and also Auro 3D is from Turbine in 2021. But i do agree it is Extremely Good
It is totally different from the upmixed Turbine version. It's an official Warner remaster.

That's exactly why I put Romulus in number 1.
Minus one was good but 80% of that movie was dialog. About the same amount of action as Civil War but still both great audio when it pops off
I have to agree Twisters does not compare with Twister in Audio!!! Twister will always be a "CLASSIC"
