It's important to realize that there's a lot of autistic people who don't "look autistic", or who are able to carry on "normal" lives, (sometimes without ever knowing they are autistic, but just feeling like something is wrong with them). An autistic kid or teen might not play or talk with their peers because they feel like they don't fit in, for example. So just talking to them and making them feel like they fit in goes a long way to helping them be more confident in their lives.

If he's high functioning you could just give him the truth and just give him time to process the information and then ask him the next day or later that same day ask him what he thinks. It'll be an opportunity for him to be treated as an a sort of adult that his thoughts matter. Just a thought.

That's the thing, other people around us might not be able to understand differences, esp if they don't experience things the way we do, but Jesus KNOWS us - He MADE us! For HIS glory!! If he can accept that Jesus loves and died for him, and love Jesus, that's all Jesus has ever asked! To return His love. He then fills up our hearts and gives us joy that can't be measured or fully explained! 🙌🙌🙌✝️✝️✝️🥰🥰🥰

So whenever she got to watch music videos for her break time at school. I’d play this little light of mine I’m going to let it shine. She was mostly non-verbal . One day her & I were out for a walk and I was singing this little light, and she began to hum along. Very blessed day for her & I. Unfortunately here in Canada EAs are barely paid anything. I’ve almost quit a few times as extremely overworked and underpaid. I’ve only stayed for the children . Praise the Lord and these beautiful loving children.

I’m a late-diagnosed autistic Christian. My church has been the only truly welcoming community that gives me a sense of belonging. Keep in mind that when you interact with autistic adults, they probably have a lot of anxiety, they’ll probably mask their autism symptoms, and they might not disclose their diagnosis because they’re afraid of how you will react. Be patient and give them extra time to respond to questions. Also, I would urge people not to treat autistic adults like they are children. I have a Master’s degree in theology and sometimes, people address me like I’m stupid or infantilize me. It is important to be respectful, honor the sacred worth that we all have as beings created by God, and to not make demands without accommodating someone’s needs.

I have autism. I’ve been ignored and been mistreated all my life. I struggle with suicide, PTSD, severe depression and anxiety and on and. I’ve been sexually assaulted, verbally abused, made fun of, and excluded. I could go on and on. I live in a group home with my horses and dogs. I really don’t have any friends and feel very lonely. Church is the absolute worst for me. I get ignored and most people just think I don’t want to talk. I get a lot of stares too. I’m higher functioning so it makes everything just harder. I’ve struggled with my emotions, regulating, relationships, etc most of my life. Numerous people have (kindly) suggested I could be autistic and the more I’ve researched it, I suspect I could be. I feel I’m too old now to get diagnosed. The main thing that has offered me support and comfort throughout my adult life has been talking to God and reaching out to Christ the King. I sadly fall into sinful behaviour from time-to-time, but the forgiveness, comfort and love Christ offers heals me beyond words. Apologies to anyone reading my rambling, but just wanted to share my struggles and solutions. Peace be with you all x

I absolutely love being so far removed from the world and I have a new kitten because I clearly have zero friends.
As a survivor of Munchausen by proxy my mother set me up for a lifetime of abuse and solitude also.
Without PTSD my 18yo son has wonderful daydreams and talks and laughs to himself. With PTSD I can get caught in living nightmares however I am so blessed I lose 4-5hours in prayer and study in Gods love, word and instructions every morning as I need little sleep and alot of Jesus.
My journey here is compared to Job but I wouldn't change a thing if this is what it took to be saved and have so much blessed, lost time with God.

@turquoismama33 I suspect I am above average intelligence, my eldest 2 children are diagnosed as "gifted". I studied medicine and lived in books, forced to play with palliative care patients at my mother's employment etc.
I suspected myself of being Autistic since my 20's but only was diagnosed due to my youngest son being so obvious on the spectrum at 30, the same time I acknowledged and recovered from Stockholm's for my mother, i was just slapped growing up so learnt to hide.
My autistic traits worsened with the more I was abused, (my sons father raped my 11yo daughter with Cystic Fibrosis etc), I am now so agoraphobic I only leave the house for church or without option.
Parenting forced me to partake in worldly events, it would have been much easier with this wisdom and self-awareness 🙏 I doubt any of my living children or grandchildren are saved except maybe my innocent 18yo Autistic boy

I have aspergers, normally people cannot tell, I can blend in with effort, but autism does slip out now and then. I think people on the spectrum can have some very insightful thoughts because their life-long different life experience. I now think God can use such "odd" insights to work for His Kingdom. Also for people with severe disability, I always thought they are like "testers", God put them in people's life to test people's heart. Thank you for bringing attention to these brothers and sisters in Christ with special needs. Sometimes I wonder how I would feel when all the social confusion and problematic communication removed when I am in heaven, how I would feel to have a clear mind without sin.

Autism is not an intellectual disability and not all autistic people have the mind of a child. Look at Elon Musk. Or me. I am on the autism spectrum and have an IQ of 140 (last tested). Not that that's how I measure my worth because it's certainly not. Secondly, even a person who does have the mind of a child and will "get into heaven" can benefit from a personal relationship with the Lord in this life. So it's never wrong to pray to that end. Just my two cents.

He was a sweet boy he had the kindest smile and he looked up at us and he would just see you. He went through several open heart surgeries before he was 3 and he changed everyone he met. Important: 1) Never link autism and low-IQ. There are professors, engineers, surgeons, accounts, and computer programmers on the spectrum. 2) No autistic person is exactly like another. 3) Autistic people often have a powerful "special interest." Think about all those theologians and hermits (we autistic people don't need as much social interaction, and some of us can block out fatigue, hunger, etc. when doing research) as well as inventors and scholars. 4) Monotropism is one way of describing how we experience the world. This means that we tend to focus our attention more narrowly than do people of average-type brain development. This can make it harder to multitask. 5)It seems like "average" people "live out of their gut" much of the time, whereas average and high IQ autistic people process a lot of information-including conversation- logically. We DO have very deep and powerful emotions, but these might be hard to access (alexithymia = emotion blindness) and sometimes our emotions get built up and blindside us in a meltdown. 6)Many of us have a history of intense rejection, misunderstanding, and even abuse. It's not uncommon for us to have C-PTSD as well as autism and other issues. 7) PLEASE if you are in Christian work and see a child who seems quiet, a little different, but super-smart, be CAREFUL how they read the Bible and what they hear at Church. They may take what they read and hear VERY literally. Being "all or nothing" is an issue among autistic people. That child may absorb the idea that they have to be perfect or God will hate them. They may also have HARD questions to ask you, because they will bring up logical contradictions in the Bible or doctrine. Be ready to answer, or find someone who knows the answer. Be aware that being in groups can be a literal hell due to sensory issues and trying to sort out all the information. The person may also be deeply disturbed, even if they don't show it, by accounts of violence in the Bible or by hell-fire and brimstone teaching. Although sometimes super-advanced intellectually, some autistic people lack the basic, deep, feeling of well-being that seems to protect most people from REALLY "feeling" what the teaching of Hell entails. Autistic people sometimes believe what you say in a way that is FAR deeper and more profound than most people ever would. Autistic "truth" or "faith" is often arrived at logically rather than being a "feeling." If you are aware of this, you can help the Autistic (or other) person who doesn't "feel" saved, and explain about alexithymia. Emotional feeling isn't faith; faith will show itself in how a person lives his or her life according to the light and grace God gives him or her.

I am not autistic as far as I know - never having been diagnosed. But I have always suffered from severe social anxiety and felt like an outcast all my life. I was bullied and made fun of all through my childhood and I had terrible family issues. That kept me from ever getting the education and career that I should have. Now I’m four years divorced and all alone at almost 47 years old and am suffering the worst ever in my life. I thank God every day for saving me a year after that divorce but my life has still been very bad ever since. He took most of my sins away and I know I am forgiven through the blood of Jesus Christ. But every day is such a struggle to make it through all alone except for Jesus and drowning in bills and debt left over from before I was saved. My body is having all kinds of problems which makes it harder and harder for me to work this very physical and difficult job I do to make a living. I keep praying to God every day and reading His word but I’m still so lonely and depressed. I am really having a hard time understanding this.

I don't know, Joe. When your friend says, "we need them more than they need us," that is not always true. I have two autistic boys, my 8 year old is level 1 and is a usually sweet little boy, he has his things, but he's a good boy for the most part. But my eldest son, who's 12 now, is level 3 and he is incredibly difficult. He goes into severe behaviors where he pulls mom's hair and sister's hair. He hits, claws, bites, pushes. We had to put plywood all around his room and put gym padding all around on top because he was putting so many holes in the walls. When he's upset he'll take his diaper off and urinate and defecate on the floor and even smear it all over his person, including the floor and walls. We have to have him on sleeping medication and yet he still wakes in the middle of the night. He's constantly screaming at the top of his lungs driving us mad. He throws food when upset (we have pasta sauce stains on the ceiling). He has a GPS tracker because he's jumped out the window a couple times to run away. I could go on and on. No medication seems to work. In fact, some has made things worse.
It's strained our family and it's especially strained my marriage. I work 55 hours a week because my wife can't be employed since she cares for the children. Then on the weekends I take over as best I can. We don't have anyone, or very rarely I should say, have anyone to help as everyone is scared of my son. I have begged God to heal my son, or at least our situation so many times. Fasted and prayed. We have a group of people praying for us constantly, but it's been like this for years, Joe. In fact, it gets so bad that I don't even want to be alive most days. I am drained, Joe. So when I hear people say that autism is blessing, unfortunately, I get very angry. It triggers an anger inside of me that I never knew was possible. An anger that I'm losing control of more and more each day. I ask God to take it from me, to heal me, my son, and my family, but he hasn't answered my prayers... and if one more pastor tries to cite Job to me, I'll have to scream at the top of my lungs.
Anyway... Sorry to rant. I just wanted to say that it's not all sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes it really is doom and gloom and hope is but star that fades into the darkness.

Thank you for sharing your story, you are right I should've shared both sides, and I may return to the subject in a future video as this was just a quick few thoughts. But we also know of children smashing the house, being driven hundreds of miles on holiday and then refusing to get out of the car so the parents had to drive back and of course when my wife worked in SEN there was physical attacks (not too bad for wife though), one damage to internal organs and one loss of fingers in a door. So effectively you are totally right having a child with a disability is not a walk in the park, but I do still believe God uses them mightily for His purposes. God bless you and thank you again for sharing - Joe

In case anyone is interested, common traits of autism are:
    1) Hypersensitivity to sensory stimulation (e.g. unexpected noises, bright lights, touch, smell, etc). If exposed to too many of these things at once, they can have a "meltdown", which might look different for each person. For example, being in a crowded social situation with bright lights and having someone touch or scare them unexpectedly can cause them to react harshly which might lead to people thinking they just can't take a joke, for example.
    2) Having strict routines or being very averse to change. Autistic people thrive on routine, and spontaneity can be very overwhelming. They may need time to prepare before a social situation and not knowing what to expect can be very stressful. Don't push autistic people to do things or join groups they aren't comfortable with. Instead, reassure them and help them to feel like they fit in either way so they will be more comfortable.
    3) Not understanding common social cues. Autistic people tend to take things literally and might not get some jokes or sarcasm as quickly. They may also talk too much because they don't always know when it's their turn to stop. But many autistic people have special interests, and showing interest and letting them talk about it will make their day.
    4) Difficulty speaking. Sometimes too loud, sometimes too quiet, or maybe in a more monotonous voice. Telling them to speak up or lower their voice can lead to frustration and shutting down. Some autistic people don't speak at all.
    5) Social anxiety and difficulty making eye contact. This can be caused by all the traits listed above. They may force themselves to make eye contact if they've been told they need to do it more, and this can result in staring in a way that might make people feel uncomfortable. Remember they are just trying to fit in and don't understand social cues.
    6) Repetitive movements ("stimming"). Rocking back and forth, flapping their hands or fingers, or even just bouncing their leg are common ways of doing this. This is usually their way of managing stress and helps themselves relax. Everyone stims to some degree, but autistic people do it a lot, and they way they do it can sometimes look weird to other people.
There's definitely more traits, but that's all I could think of right at the moment.

Thank you for posting this video. I’m from the USA 🇺🇸 and am autistic myself. I’m a people pleaser. Also I tend to rest on my feelings because I don’t like feeling lonely 😩 or unhappy. Us autistic folks retain more knowledge and have a harder time letting go of stuff. It’s REALLY difficult to adjust to changes in whatever it may be adulthood workplace home habits etc. We’re super duper sensitive to people’s tone of voice and when they’re loud or something like that we take it way too seriously thinking 🤔 they’re mad 😡 but that’s not always the case. We want to get closer to God but when we’re doubting ourselves whether or not we’re saved (based on our feelings) we begin to question the Bible and all that. Pray 🙏 for us that God would seal us all autistic people so that we can rest assured that we have no fear 😨 of eternal damnation or death. All hands on deck saints!

I have autism and was reborn about ten years ago, but over the years I've become really burnout with churches. The people are lovely and friendly, but there's so much false teaching, pastors more concerned with numbers and money than people's sanctification, and there's never any preaching against sin. I've always wanted to be emboldened in my faith, not wrapped in wool. I'm at a point where I'm too burnout to even go near a church, and it's very sad.

This message is so beautiful and I agree! There is beauty in getting to know and caring for vulnerable people. I'm an autistic Christian woman so I thank you, sir. This is a much better message than what a pastor recently preached about deliverance from autism because "his God doesn't make junk". My spirit turned away from that language about others. God redeems us in His glory and His plans. Never doubt. Thank you God, for the beauty in the wonderous ways in shaping us together for the better. Thank you for allowing us to grow and know so many different children of God.

I have adhd and tourette syndrome and some form of depression, and I have been suspecting more and more that I have autism too and have been researching somw today and can see now how several of the symptoms of it really do apply to me in my own ways. I also have gone a while without falling into a repetative sin I have struggled with for years and years but I messed up today. I was looking for something and feeling like maybe researching autism so much was distracting me from focusing on God and so I lost my resolve tp be obedient and fell into son. And so now I was trying to find something christian to watch and kept getting distracted by other random videos instead of searching for something, and then started seeing more autism videos, and I prayed for forgivness and help, and then I saw this video, connecting autism and God, and it really made me feel seen and comforted by God, and also spoke to me some things I could do for others with autism, especially those who may have it more severely than me.

Praising God at your comment! I also was an atheist. But I went astray for 40 years, and somehow, God saved me. There is always, always hope in Jesus Christ. He sees everything and He knows what we are going through. He is so much more holy and righteous than we even give Him credit for, and He is often more displeased at what people do to one another than we are.

This goes close to my heart as someone with autism/ ADHD myself. The churches I’ve been to lately are so hectic and nobody seems to look around and care about you. It’s what scared me off going to church for now. I’d love to be approached or talked to in church for help but people are so busy with themselves and walking past you, they don’t see.
This needs to be changed. We all need to work as a community and help each other. Keep our eyes open.
It’s why I feel better around most neurodivergent people I meet because we care and look around more. Because we know how it feels like to be forgotten, invisible and left out.

    • @aravis_
      @aravis_ 8 месяцев назад

Also, it’s often an invisible disability. By looking out more, it’s not exclusively great towards neurodivergents, but being more aware of the people around us.

To everyone who has an autistic or any special needs child / family member... You rock it's hard at times but the unique love they give can't be put into words.
So yes, pay yourself on the back, give them a hug (if they'll allow it) and keep faith that it will get better.
