- In this video I teach you how to trim your rabbit's nails, especially for people who are a little anxious about trimming their bunnies nails. I'll show you some ways I keep the buns calm and how I manage to do it by myself. I’ve always been too scared to do it and I’ve tried many methods, especially with how squirmy my bunnies are and these tips have helped me out the most!
Some tips I have learnt:
1. Give them treats and pets
2. Do it quickly
3. Cut only the tip of their nail
4. Press before you cut
5. Be confident!
Also, have some cornstarch on hand and dip their nail in if you accidentally cut their quick.
Disclaimer: please seek advice from your vet if you have any emergency questions.

thank you for a realistic video that deals with stubborn/stressed bunnies. so many bunny accounts assume that your rabbit is perfectly cooperative... like bro I wouldn't be watching the video if my rabbit sat still :')
So true 😂 milky is the most stubborn and stressed bunny, so I was always shocked to see calm and chill bunnies online, I was like how???
@@Katesque i have two bunnies named boba and bun bun but bun bun is the most stubborn one and doesnt like
to be touched 🤣🤣
I am with you there! When I inherited a 3 MO old Buddy aka bun bun if grandkids around, I thought he must have distemper or something lol! I sure felt like I was doing something wrong until I stumbled upon some lovely, informative sites. When he broke his leg it took 3 nurses, myself and vet to hold 2.5 lb Buddy still. The vet said he is a Super Alpha and I should not get him a companion be cause he would probably bully her/him. The way he rules my 10-12lb cats, she is probably right. But I just may try it when my oldest kitty passes because she is only one that licks his head and tells him he is king and curl up with him. Stress bonding was never an option for him with his leg and went against my mama instincts anyway. KATS way seems soooo much more likely to work! She sure has me hooked! I'm looking forward to more videos from her.
LOL yup
Exactly. 😂
I've found that it's easier to just do one paw at a time with a while in between sessions so they can calm down. Also, by the fourth paw they're usually super calm bc they know they're not gonna die (yes they are very dramatic!)
Cool! Thank you for suggesting being confident. That's truly my weak point!
I’m glad, I used to always be nervous too!
I usually sneakily cut their nails while in a long petting session. I try petting them over their paws same time as their heads, so the touch there isn't a negative experience. My buns trust me a lot, however they hate being picked up and instantly will be stressed, so this way works best for us!
That's an awesome way to do it! It's so wonderful that your bun trusts you like that xx definitely the least stressful route for them i love it
When I do my bunnies back paws he tries sometimes to bite my arm out of irritation :') I have noticed if I clip like 3 nails per session he won't get as irritated and won't be as disappointed with me xD
I love your tip about only doing a few nails haha I have gotten nipped too out of irritation 😂
I’m always scared of cutting Babylou’s nails so I usually let her vet do it .Super video 😊
Very true, I used to just let the vet do it 😅
I definitely took notes from this video and can say I successfully clipped my bunny's nails 😌 I was so close to making a vet appointment too hahah thank you ✨
Congrats, we're about to attempt clipping our bunnies nails but been getting anxious, nearly throwing in the towel and making a vet app. This comment gave me the extra confidence push I needed... We were even thinking about using gloves to protect our arms but feel the lil ones won't appreciate it so wish my arms luck 👀
I love how your content is so high quality even though you just started RUclips 😍
Also I could not have my hand in front of their nose while cutting nails...they‘d bite me ^^
I found it helpful use a thin towel for scaredy-bunnies and place it over their head and then they are calm (my vet also does this)
Thank you so much! I’m lucky because I’m a wedding videographer, so I kind of had a bit of an idea how to film 😅 still getting the hang of it though.
I’m so glad you also know about covering scaredy bunnies heads! I wasn’t sure if anyone else did this, thanks so much for leaving a comment xx
Thank you for your video
yesssssssssssss!!! a new bunnny-tuber there is like 3 on youtube
I agree! I searched for many but unfortunately most of them don’t have „bunny“ in the title so searching is almost impossible.
Thanks so much guys 🥺 trying to put more bunny content out there cause I’ve been on a search for them too!
If been looking for a realistic bunny nail video and I tried so many times and finally found this! You did an awesome job if explaining.
I appreciate it! I still struggle to clip their nails too xx
thank you so so much for this video, i finally gained the courage to clip my bunny's nails alone today, and the tips really help! specially putting him on a higher surface, and even the flashlight. lots of love from bambi (my bunny) and I :)
I'm kinda scared to cut their nail cus its really tiny but I really have to cut em cus I'm starting to get alot of scratches
And taking breaks is okay, I let them calm down for a lil and go back at it❤️
Went to the vet last week because i have very young bunnies who can't stop running around.. it was a horrible experience!! One of my rabbit literally screamed like it was dying and knocked the other one off the table and took 4 vets to calm it down😂😂😂 they came home differently for a few days..
Goodness me! I’ve never heard a bunny scream before and I never wish to
I needed this. I just adopted a rabbit that was from a lady who went into care and his nails are out of control and he is okay with me, but not to the extent I'd like.
Thank you so much! Directly after watching this video I just sat down and tried to do it to, and it worked! It was actually much easier than expected. I made sure to tuck him into my armpit with a towel over his head and he stayed put for most of it. And he was super cuddly after ❤️
Think you your a life saver
You all make it so easy looking
Thank you so much for this video!!! I've been so nervous to cut my bunnies' nails but after watching this I feel way more confident that I can do it. :)
I have a 13 week old bunny and he’s getting use to nail clipping stresses him out still so I wrap a blanket around him just to be safe so he can’t jump away
Omg this is such a good idea
Awesome Job ❤..I watched a lot of videos, On trimming a Rabbits nails, And by far yours is the best.. You've got my Sub, Thx GregM.
Thanks! This video is very helpful for me. My bunnies are very squirmy
Best video I’ve seen on this. My bun looks and acts just like Milky. Lol Thanks!
This helped so much!!! My rabbit is super super squirmy and this helped me cut his nails easily
Thank you so much! The techniques that really worked for both my bunny and me were to tuck him under my arm so that he wasn't able to see and wrap him loosely in his favorite towel. He became much calmer and less squirmy!
Your videos are fantastic and rather funny as well! Thank you
Ahhh you’re too nice hahaha thank youuuu for watching 🥺
I've tried so many other videos and it didn't work but this one really helps thanks!!
Glad it helped! xx
This video was great help thank you so much!!!!
Ayyyy thank you so much for making this video!
This ones for youuu! Hopefully it helped! Let me know how you go with your buns
my bunny gets angry at me if i pick them up so without picking them up and tips like the elbow one is very good for my rabbit who gets scared easly tysm!
one time clipping my german shepherds claws i went too far, omg it did bleed. I learnt from that mistake
lol
This will be so helpful when I trim my bunny’s nails this weekend. We haven’t really bonded yet so he will probably hate me for a while.
I have been a rabbit mommy for 5 yrs, seen all the cutesy vids, some informative ones that made me feel like a failure etc. Your's are the most realistic and helpful BY FAR! Please keep doing what you do!. If I were you, I'd contact Oxbow and see if they would sponsor you. They have the best line of rabbit food and treats in the U.S. that I've been able to find. Look them up, read their ingredients, decide for yourself. But I truly feel you would be a great fit! I definitely see your vids being a great addition to our Chewy website in the states too! (Pet supplies) I see great things in your future!
I really appreciate the encouragement and support! I'll definitely look them up and see what I can do, it really means a lot that you think that highly of me, thank you so much
@@Katesque I have been reading the comments and you sure have made a bunch of bunny parents feel better about themselves by painting a real picture. I especially like that you are trying to educate people Before they buy so they don't end up giving up after a month because they have no clue. You are such a natural and your sincerity shines through on Camara. That is hard to come by. Thank you for being you, hon🌻💚🌻
@@mlbritts67 you’re too sweet thank you 🥲
It has nothing to do with the video but your apartment is so pretty!!
Thank you so much! I’m only 11 and have a bunny and this helped alot
OMG!!!YES!This was very helpful,Latte is the.Worst.When it comes to clipping his nails and grooming him!i love your channel its so inspriring! Thanks so much!(Latte thanks you too!)
ur channel is so underrated
HEYY! Your channel is awesome 🐾 this video was really informative and your rabbits are absolutely adorable ✨
You are going places. You have so much talent.
You're too sweet haha thank you xx
Thank you for making this! I just trimmed my bunnies nails and he reacted better than when I tried the first time. I put mine on a counter and he didn't jump away anymore
i was only able to get his front paws done with the help of my little sister holding him upwards. if i did it like how you’re doing (over them or lifting them up myself) he will turn around towards my arm & i haven’t had him long enough to know if he bites or not so i flinch back in fear😭 i’m not too confident yet to do it by myself & i’m holding off in doing his back paws because he seems to be extra skiddish there. i’ll hopefully take him to a vet soon so it makes it easier on me! hahah, but thanks for the awesome video
Same 😭
Watching this video bc my rabbit was bleeding a lot and it was due to her paws , I never cut them because she would never let me , ur rabbit is still more still than mines :,) but obviously imma have to do something about it . Thanks for the video
Great video, thank you
Can pls someone tell me when should I start grooming my bunny?
Mines literally growls at me when I try to hold him down to clip it
I have to take my bunny to get his nails cut once a month $10 I prefer to pay a professional because I jump when I try to do it. I feel as if I'm hurting him although I know I'm not I'm just not confident enough. Great video though gives me courage to try again 🐰💗
Every time after I clip my rabbit’s nails, he will pout for about five minutes. And then go back to his normal energetic self.
Clipping his nails is the most stressful thing I have to go through especially since he is young and extremely smart.
He will raise his paw away from my hand and hide it in his body, lucky for me, he never bit me while I trim his nails.
It takes like 15 minutes to trim the nails
Bananas are very helpful treats to use
Omg thank you so much for this ! I’ve never seen these tips before and they helped me so much today. Took a terrible 15 minute process down to 5 minutes easy. Really appreciate it ❤
Still haven´t managed to clip our rabbit´s nails...We´ve had him for 2 months. I am gonna try today, but he is a small, stressed runner when I try to do it :D
One of my friends has a deaf rabbit. He’s a holland lop, so the natural kinks in the ear canals apparently made him deaf after a year or two. Unfortunately that means he’s always on alert, so he’ll kick around like crazy! He gets trimmed by a professional now and even they said he’s one of the most difficult rabbits to keep still 💔
I WAS SO RELIEVED AT THE PART ABOUT 4 BACK CLAWS I thought my bun had lost a claw when I quickly had a feel one day ;---; thought I was a bad mom!!!!
Omg my rabbit, I can’t even carry her because she tries to run away, so putting her on a high surface means I have to take her carrier and let her walk in and out of it when taking her to different places😅
aaa i love ur videos and this one is great cos ur showing realistic rabbits lol
Thank you xxx you’re so sweet hahaha yeah my bunnies aren’t perfect but I love them 😂
thank you so much for this!!! i just clipped my bun's nails for the first time (i tried a couple weeks ago but he wouldn't let me at all) but it worked this time!!!!! having the phone light there really helped too!! thank you!!💖💖
floor mixed with water can stop the bleeding if you accidentally cut the quick
I done my bunnies front nails yesterday, I think she is gonna stress about the back ones
Your videos are soo good, like your the next up and coming rabbit RUclipsr 😎
Thank you so much! You're too sweet hahaha xx
My bunny bit me for the first time while doing this. He is very shy but normally very good with me so I was very surprised by this.
my sons baby drawf hop can and will literally fly from wall of our house to the other when i get the clippers out and then our giant Flemish will wriggle so hard like a worm i gave up. I'm thinking about grinding or take to vet! You would be good to start that as a career move!
lovee your account lolz
Hi I’m trying to trim my bunnies nails, he really doesn’t like when people touch him like the way you do with your bunny, is there anything that I should try?
Thank you
Great videos !
It takes 3 people to cut my bunnys nails. One the treat feeder and petter, the other the clipper and last the holder. I don't understand how you can do it yourself.
Omg my bunny does that he hates it so much. Every time I try nail clipping his nails he runs away and even if I touch his paw.
same, my bunny hates being touched and if you boop his snoot too much he attac
awhh. try chopping their nails in an unfamiliar place (where ur bunny hasnt been much) then its less likely they will run away
How often should I cut my bunnies nails?
I’m really scared to hurt or over-cut, any tips so I don’t pass out?
the one person who put a thumbs down: why
I subscribed! 💙
You’re so sweet thank you xxx
Can you PLEASEEE do a “bathing” video (if you do bathe your buns) and add how to use the “hair buster” comb? I know some buns don’t like baths and panic and the owners use baby wipes instead but if you did bathe them on occasion I’d love to know your “routine” and compare it to ours
You aren’t even supposed to bathe your rabbits though, it can cause SERIOUS stress and can make them go into shock with also sometimes leads to death. Another reason is that rabbits are the 2nd fluffiest animals in the world and if lots of water gets under their fur it can cause hypothermia because their fur is really dense, also they find it hard to regulate their body temperature. Only bathe your rabbits if your vet tells you to.
@@meattoothpaste5113 My bunny grew up being bathed ( not meaning submerged in water with soap, good lord🤦🏻♀️) by my exotic vet who allowed me to adopt her. Notice how I said “bathe” 🤩 key word there pal, it wasn’t BATH. Due to her abusive state, sponge or wash clothes with warm water were required for her skin and fur to heal and keep the area clean. SO now that she’s older she likes warm rung out wash cloth rubs then to get brushed after; my rabbit literally spills her bowls just to use the water to clean her face and body to roll in it! Thanks for the advice as I’m also a zoology major! 👍🏼
@@hailyvalente2604 oh ok phew, that’s adorable! It’s just that some people are uneducated about this stuff, but what your rabbit does is so cute!
thanks!! im so afraid of cutting her nails and hurt her :(
My bun was not quite fine with that
My rabbit doesn’t even let me touch his back feet. I don’t know how to cut his nails, they’re getting quite long.
even after these tips my rabbit is still such a struggle, he just kicks everywhere, i have an angora rabbit and the fur is also the main part of whats the problem
She bites me if I do this do u have any suggestions
The high surface isn't for every rabbit. Mine will jump 10 times out of 10
For some reason my bunny was less stress when I was cutting his nails and when I wasn’t
what about rabbits that refuse to be picked up?
I got my rabbit almost a monty ago and their nails are so long and im kinda scared to clip their nails
Can someone help me because my rabbit is usally pretty sweet but sometimes I will just be walking and she randomly lunges at my leg If anyone has any tips let me know
you must set your rabbit free
Is she spayed?
@@lilytercero9999 yes
My bunny hates getting her nails trimed
yeah still gonna get someone else to do this for me lol my bun always has a fit when I'm grooming her, the most she'll let me do is brush her and quickly wipe her butt lol other than that she be ready to fight :)
This is soo hard, and I have dwarfs
I don’t seem to have the confidence to clip my bunny’s nails. He gets very easily scared. 😢
i had my rabbit for 3 years now and i didn't know we had to trim their nails, yesterday i realised my rabbits' nails looked weirdly long and googled it up and my rabbits' nails seems to be quite overgrown
I didn’t know that for a long time either! Apparently their nails aren’t even supposed to be curved 😅 but trimming little bits off will slowly make the quick move further down the nail xx
I have new rabbits for 3 weeks now but they not 100% trust me. What do you suggest for clipping their nails?
Maybe take them to your vet to get their nails clipped xxxx
The thumb nail is my face every time I cut my bunnies nails
how! haha I always get so scared to cut it haha xx
My rabbit barely lets me touch him idk how I’m supposed to do this
Oh goodness, it would definitely be extremely stressful for your bun then! You could ask your vets to do it for you if that would suit you better xx
I need some advice. I got my bunny today (did SO much research. My mom used to own bunnies, found out what she new was quite wrong). Of course, he’s scared of being in a new place, but he’s cleaning himself and nibbling hay and pellets here and there (he’s under 6 months, he’s 2 1/2 months, so no veggies yet, although I’ve seen people feed lettuce to the babies, don’t know if that’s okay). I had to pick him up to take him out of the carrier I had (did it quick so he wasn’t uncomfy) and his nails felt long. I tried to take a quick look at them and they were a little long and sharp. I can’t give him treats cause he’s baby, so would you suggest cutting his nails? waiting till we’re bonded? Cause idk.
Hey! I don’t think baby bunnies need their nails clipped yet, I didn’t clip my bunnies nails until they were older xx
@@Katesque Actually, I ended up checking his paws and found out they were a lot shorter than I thought. Maybe 4 millimetres past the quick. They were just sharp and that's what surprised me. I could file his nails but as we are still bonding, idk if I wanna put him through that. Thank you so much for your input though! Helps a lot. Just one question, at what age would you say I should start looking out for when to cut them? Or should I just keep checking every couple of weeks?
@@OvrStim1 No worries haha yeah just keep an eye out! You’re going to figure out signs of your own when their nails are getting a little long, if I can hear my bunnies walking around (nails hitting the floor more) I make it a point to trim them haha xx good luck on your bonding
@@Katesque Thanks so much!
I have a not sterilized female rabbit, so there is a bit more challenge there. She trusts me and is tame but she can be defensive and territorial. So I always need to make her mak first. I place her in my bathroom sink first and rub and brush her a bit. Then I lift her up, left hand under bottom and right hand under chest and front legs and then I gently turn her head down with belly facing upwards while moving her to my chest. Then I let her head slip down in the hollow of my left elbow, thus far that her eyes are slightly covered by my arm. Now she quickly enters a trance-like sleep. The longer she stays in it the more I can do without waking her. Like clipping her nails. Especially practical for the back-paw nails, since those are a lot thicker and stiffer.
My rabbits are to are to aggressive
My bunnies nails are bigger (my bun bun is big boy) I find those trimmers very hard to use because it's way too much pressure for him he FREAKS OUT. I been only cutting the tips with a big nail clipper ONLY WHEN I NEED TOO. But it's very frustrating for me. Does any have tips?
You can try give your local rabbit savvy vet to ask how they do it for the bigger boys. I asked my vets what to do with my buns which is why I'm so comfortable with it xx
In my household it’s a 3 person job. One holds the bunny in a standing position. One clips the nails. And one covers the eyes. It’s like watching yourself getting a shot. If your a single owner, I also suggest going to a vet.
@@ber.e it used to be a two person job for me too 😅 I thought it stressed them out too much though so I figured out a way to do it myself x
Looking at this video of your rabbits they're NOT 'skittish! Leave it to the experts!
How often should we cut their nails?
Around once a month! xx
@@Katesque Thank you!
@@Katesque Once a month? 🤔I had my bun for a few years now and I’ve always taken him to the vets every few months. The vets wasn’t concerned or anything, also I registered with the best rabbit vets and they also didn’t mention a thing. They look short for a few months.
I got to say USE A NET
I’m not a bunny taker but those nails were exactly the same as Guinea pigs
I never knew that! How interesting
Anyone else is scared that they will cut the bunny finger off?
Hahahhahahha
No need for a cat nail clipper. Hold the human one sideways. Only works with cat like nails though so not sure if it applies to bunnies.
I'm surprised you even managed to find a claw in all that fur! 😂
I once did the "warning" thing by applying pressure (nowhere near the quick) and my Bunny pulled her paw back and tore the whole nail out. I would suggest no warning. Just make sure you're not near the quick and cut quickly. Also, I turn my Bunny on her back so that she's in her "trance". It calms them and there's no way they can run away.
but aren’t you not supposed to turn bunnies on their backs?
@@1DLover1995 It's perfectly fine.
