I bought your Kase filter kit and love it...so much easier to use than than the LEE filter system I had. I use the HB97 hood and it does fit the 24-70 2.8 as well. Super easy, great quality, thanks for the recommendation.
Are there plans to offer more customized Kase kits? I love the idea of switching from my 100mm square filter NiSi adapter to the 112mm Kase filters, but the cost is prohibitive. I'd love just a CPL, a 6-stop ND, and the night filter... Not sure what kind of arrangement you've got with them, but it could be cool to offer some kind of "buy 3 filter discount" or something.
I already have a 'buy three kase products and get 10 percent off discount' right in my store and I do carry all of those items individually already. :) just hit the link and look around. Www.hudsonhenry.com/kase
I also pre-ordered the 800mm f/6.3 and paced the floor waiting for NPS to open the Priority Delivery request for it. I don't foresee as many sports guys going after it (I could be wrong, but it's a bit too much lens, and a hair slow for them), but the wildlife community is going to lose its mind. Wildlife photography is something fairly new to me and I'm having a blast with it. I enjoy your videos, and really respect your diversity of skill and experience! Oh, and I also love the Anker USB charger and keep in the bag.
Action and Sports photographers will be wanting the z400mmf2.8 lens with the built in Teleconverter is geared towards lowlight floodlights night games 😮and the z800mm f6.3 will be for birders and safari wildlife areas.
I’ve been looking at the HB-97 hood and the Kase 112mm filters, it’s a super compelling setup. I read that because there are some gaps in the lens hood to lens interface, it can allow light to bleed through and reflect off the back side of a strong 112mm ND filter. Have you encountered this at all?
Good stuff Hudson - I will look into adding the UV (should really have one) and the night time one as well. I've been using the Kase stuff for a while now w/ my GFX - and I really love the CPL and the NDs - so easy to use in the field. The only complaint so far is the "velcro" has mostly come of the case - is that a one-off issue, or are you hearing that others are experiencing that as well?
Thanks, Hudson, this was helpful, but I am still confused with filters. I have Nikon z9, the 14-30 f4, 24-120 f4, 100-400 mm z lens, and 105 macro lenses. I was thinking of the 82 mm lens kit but am lost in understanding the lens hood system mentioned several times. I'm thinking I would need a step-up ring for several of these because they are 77 mm. But am I not using a lens hood then when using the filters? I ordered the 800 PF, too. Holding my breath for it. I bought the manfoto head and Kirk attachments after your recommendations. Great setup and am gradually learning how to use it for video as well as stills. Thanks.
You're right! You will be best served by the 82mm kit for sure. Only your 14-30 fits the hb-97 hood. It's folks with the 2.8 glass that benefit from the 112mm system and hood, particularly if you have the 14-24 S. I'd advise the 82mm system with a Kase 77-82 magnetic adapter. You'll be set. :)
I posted on another video but thought I'd post it here as well. I'm shopping for a filter system. I'd be looking at the 112mm kit for it's versatility like you point out. My main use for these would be for shooting video (keep 180 shutter angle on bright days and shooting N-Log which is based on ISO800). I'm also considering another system with square or rectangular glass filters. Do you know if the 112mm kit would work in combo with typical matte box?
I use my filters that way a lot too (the 180 angle is tough in bright conditions). It should be no problem so long as your matte box is big enough (width wise) the adapters and magnetic rings mount with standard filter threads and the filters are incredibly thin and high quality. I also sell an ultrathin, small Kase 100mm rectangular kit that has hybrid magnetic night and polarizing filters with an external dial to rotate them behind UV, 3, 6 and 10 stop 1M thick rectangular glass ND filters. I had them build that kit without graduated filters and it's exclusive to me for a bit. Www.hudsonhenry.com/kase
@@HudsonHenryPhoto Awesome I'll check it out. I agree with you about graduated filters. They were useful indispensable for film cameras but regular ND are the way to go now for the best results and the digital darkroom.
Well you did say the 800mm was 1/3 of a stop slower than the 5.6. Magnetic filters seem to have taken over with most manufacturers offering a version. Does kase offer a magnetic lens cap and do you use one. When I go out at night, i clean my sensor and add a night filter on the sensor. I was not sure I would like it so i did not want to invest in a big night filter. Thanks as always
I do carry the caps for front and rear. I More often use them to keep a stack of protected filters handy in the stone bag or coat pocket. Other brands are doing Magnetic, but Kase led the way and their filters are so thin, durable and high quality. I LOVE them. :-)
I'm curious why you went with a 112mm size filter kit when 82 would have covered all of the various lenses you have. Is there an advantage ?? no vignette?
No vignette and it's the size of the hb-97 hood which comes with the epic nikon 14-24 2.8 S, but also clicks right onto the new 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 14-30 f4 and 50 1.2 lenses. The 112 filters also click right on to the amazing 500pf with a simple 95-112 magnetic adapter and the 24-120 S and 100-400 S with the 77-112 magnetic adapter. One set totally convers everything with ease and zero chance of vignetting even stacking 3 filters at 14mm. Even when I don't carry the 14-24 and 500pf that require them, I prefer the 112s to my 82 set. They're a breeze to handle. They're also totally future lens proof. :)

Hey Hudson, would love an Approaching the Scene on MW/night timelapse work, your work flow, settings, processing, etc. Beautiful work!
I was under the same impression with regard to battery capacity. Thank you for passing on the correction.

Thanks, Hudson - a great ATS. I learned a TON watching this, very appreciative.
Wow great video

Thanks for that note. It's going to be a fun lens!

Thousands of frames, never an issue yet. Way way overblown. I mean maybe if you shine a tactical flashlight in there directly. :)
To all of you RAM fans, don't forget where Mathrew Stafford comes from. Right here in Dallas, TX.

Ughhh. Let me talk to them. Mine are fine and you're the first I've heard that from. Email me. :)
Hudson, can I buy just the 112mm magnetic ring that goes into the lens hood? I have two of the HB-97's and need a second ring. Thanks

9:19 good lord I thought you were going to smash your 24-120 on the table ... Just a small heart murmur, that's all. Nothing to worry about....
😂
Do you use the polariser when you are travelling light and hand holding, or is it just for use with a tripod?
I frequently use a polarizer hand held. :)
