@@KK-pm7ud certain things yeah but its not the same to hire someone else for top priority considerations. Great Leadership from a corp level and gov level has to meet the president to talk about national security concerns etc. you cant send someone else for these types of things.

Powell is actually a Republican, but because Joe Biden respects the rule of law, he did not try to replace him. Anyway, thank you and I appreciate your input. The President of the US doesn't know more than the Fed Chairman about economic policy and shouldn't be interfering or wasting their time with meetings. Unless it is an emergency with a clear purpose, like the financial crisis, there is no reason Biden needs to speak with Powell. Warren Buffett doesn't tell the CEOs of this operating companies how to run their businesses. So why would Biden tell Powell how to run the Fed?

There are a lot of things that Powell won't be aware of as he isn't in the front seat. Presidents and the Chairman have always met, they would meet regularly under Bush, Obama, and Trump. @@passiveaction Treasury is a partisan institution and can provide economic data. President also has the Council of Economic Advisers for economic information. Why would you bother the independent Fed chair when you have people by your side who could give you the same information?

Rep. Low-Lower asked a-to put it mildly-wrong question. The Fed reports to the Congress, period. Anybody who knows ECON 101, must be aware that the monetary policy should not be interfered with by the executive (i.e., the Whitehouse).
Dude from NewYork probably is filthy rich as he seems to not be aware of the high interest rates - a FRB tool at work. If the FRB is doing their jobs, Potus should leave them alone.
He probably meets with Janet Yellen, Secretary of the Treasury, to coordinate policy, much as Treasury Secretaries have met with Fed Chairmen over the years.

@@estradaoct The checks and balances is Powell going to Congress. You need to go to school and pay attention to how it all works. If Powell is doing his job and the President doesn't see any issue with how he's managing things or there isn't an emergency or other issue requiring him to meet with the President, then there is NO reason to meet.
I don’t know who Mr. Green is (the one who essentially protested the questioner asking a question that may harm a current running presidential candidate) but they literally just put a current candidate through 6 months of trials. How laughable is this process.

I’m assuming that earlier in the session or in a previous session, someone asked a question about a policy of Trump and said it didn’t seem right, and that was objected to and sustained. He was trying to prove a point.

Central banks should not be meeting with leaders as the leader of a country ALWAYS has incentive to lower rates no matter the inflation or cost to support the wealthy and businesses who back the leader and his party of any country. Even in Russia or China the leaders do not meet with the head of the central bank so that is a good sign. If Trump takes office and he starts calling Powell in, you know we got big problems. It does not take much to turn a country from balanced inflation in to Argentina and once you do that damage it takes incredible pain and suffering for decades to undo the damage. Let the Central Bank/FED do their job, let them fix inflation, the moment you interfere you harm everyone except the wealthy who love inflation.
Shouldn't the chairman of one of the, if not the, most important institution in America meet with our leader. It should not be influenced by anything other than data regarding the economy in order to stay impartial about the decisions that it makes. For this reason it's completely understandable for there to be no communication between the fed chairman and the president

The president has much more information about current world fiscal affairs, foreign policy, etc that the feds don't know about. The president and chairman have always met since it doesn't take a genius to understand that the leader of our country and the man responsible for keeping our country financially stable should meet. It's like a machine with two gears, you can't have one gear move at one speed and the other a different speed. They need to move in unison.

Yea sure, The Fed should have the power to act independently at the end of the day, but they should be working with the government to improve the economy. Constant communication to come up with a complimentary and calibrated response to promote growth and financial stability. Right now, there is explosive fiscal spending and restrictive monetary policy. Completely out of sync.

In normal circumstances I'd agree with JP but considering in the last 2 years, inflation has been the most impactful part of American lives, I would have expected the president to have at least had a conversation with JP. I mean at least a, "hey how are things going?" or "is there anything we can do to help this issue?" type of conversation. At least then maybe JP could have told him to stop throwing money at Ukraine, Israel, and student loan forgiveness.
Most people recognize that meeting for the sake of meeting is showboating at best and wasting everyone's time and creating stress and micromanagement at worse.
I agree, in this state of economy, people would think that the goverment knows and try to contact the FED like you said, if gov people have any idea about economic that is. For this Biden administration, I doubt any of them know anything about economy so they just leave all the hard work for FED people.
