The lane departure warning system and the new systems "Traffic Sign Recognition" and "Intelligent Speed Assistance" are installed throughout the product area as standard, which means that traffic signs are recognized and speed is limited. With one click you can set the speed so that you safely drive within the allowed limits.
Your music, your friends, your apps: You do not have to give up this world every time you take the wheel. With the all-product Uconnect ™ 7-inch touch-screen HD radio, with integration with CarPlay and Android Auto ™, you'll always stay in touch with your friends with the new 500X.
The 500X has a steering wheel that adjusts for both rake and reach, and offers a decent range of seat-height adjustment. It’s harder to get the right angle on the backrest, because you adjust it using a lever while leaning backwards or forwards. Electrically adjustable lumbar support and a central armrest are available as part of the reasonably priced Comfort Pack, which is definitely worth adding. Fully electric seat adjustment is also optional.
The 500X's seats are comfortable enough, even on longer journeys, and its pedals are decently placed, giving it one of the better driving positions in the small SUV class. You have to push the pedals down quite a long way, though, which can get tiring on your calf muscles - depending on how long your legs are.
Generally speaking, the dashboard buttons are well placed and easy to read. We like the fact that you get physical air conditioning controls, too, rather than the fiddly digital buttons built into the touchscreens of some rivals.
Predictably, the 500X’s semi-high-riding stance gives you a good view forwards, although its fairly chunky front pillars can limit your view through really tight bends. Rear visibility is mostly fine, but there are over-the-shoulder blindspots that you’ll need to be conscious of during lane changes; blindspot monitoring is optional on the top two trims.
The fairly high boot line means you’ll be making good use of the rear parking sensors that are standard on all but base Urban trim. If you want front parking sensors or a rear-view camera, they’re standard on top-spec Cross Plus and part of the reasonably priced City Pack on lower trims.
Disappointingly, automatic rain-sensing wipers are reserved for the options list. A heated windscreen is available as part of the Winter Pack, and speaking of winter and dark nights, high-intensity LED headlights are available either as an option or come as standard on top-spec Cross Plus trim.
All models get a 7.0in touchscreen infotainment system with a DAB radio, Bluetooth, two USB ports and an aux-in. Crucially, you get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring as standard on all trims. Sat-nav is only standard on Cross Plus models.
The screen has a matt finish which, although reducing sunlight glare, can make difficult to see when you’re glancing over from the driver’s seat. Its icons are too small to hit easily on the move, too, and it can also be frustratingly slow to respond to inputs. At least the menus themselves are fairly intuitive, but the system lags behind those of the Seat Arona and Kia Stonic. A nine-speaker Beats stereo upgrade is available.
Fiat has a reputation for producing quite cheap-feeling interiors, but the 500X is a departure from this. Plenty of soft-touch materials and generally good fit and finish make it feel reasonably classy - more so, in fact, than a number of rivals.
Some of the switch damping and some sharp edges around the seat adjustments let it down a touch, but overall the 500X has one of the plusher interiors in this sector.
The 500X has front seats that slide a long way back if you need them to, giving more leg room than some rivals, while the high roof means tall occupants will still have room to spare. Access is good, with the high roof, raised seating position and fairly broad door openings making it easy to slide in without having to bend too much.
There are plenty of storage cubbies around the 500X’s interior, too, with a large, chilled glovebox standard on all, a shallow dish just ahead of the gear lever that's ideal for a phone, and two cupholders between the front seats.
If you add the Comfort Pack, with its front centre armrest, you get another shallow storage area. The door bins are big enough to store a one-litre drinks bottle, too.

Indeed, Fiat has invested heavily in technology, after completing the highly reliable E-Torq engines, the Firefly 1.0 and 1.3 turbo models emerge, which make VW with its TSI engines problematic and polluting.
