Blackbrair was formed in 2012 after vocalist Zora Cock and drummer René Boxem attended a Slash concert in the Netherlands. But it wasn't Slash who was impressed, but the support band Halestorm. Their first single also sounds a lot like Halestorm. The two are also big gothic fans and it quickly turns into dark symphonic metal. A lot of their songs sound Creepy. This is my favorite video and it takes place in a cemetery:
Blackbriar - Mortal Remains (Official Music Video)
Zora is the creative mind of the band. Melodies and lyrics are mostly hers. She also produces the videos. Her voice is often compared to that of Kate Bush.

Blackbriar is a Dutch band. Zora has a beautiful, and very unique , voice. Took me a bit to get used to it, but love it now.
Must be something in the water in The Netherlands, with all of the great female singers they have produced.🤘🤘. 3 EP's, and their 2nd full album came out this year.
More to check out from them: "Until Eternity" and "Snow White and Rose Red" ( feat. Ulli Perhonen), are older songs. "My Soul's Demise" is one of the new singles, and fits in with your creepy theme.

First time hearing of this one as well. I'm the kind of guy who usually sticks to his bands and doesn't listen to much else. Its been quite a surprise that I've found more than a few new ones in such a short time on your channel.

Well I'm glad to hear it! 😁It's a delicate balance of mixing it up but not too much that people lose interest. 😂

Nice one! Zora's standout vocals are bewitching, beautiful and haunting. I can see why some liken her voice to that of Kate Bush, though Zora's vocal trills are a very distinct treat.
Follow-up suggestions: "Blackbriar - Until Eternity (Official Music Video)" .. "Blackbriar - Arms of the Ocean (Official Music Video)" and the more creepy "Blackbriar - Mortal Remains (Official Music Video)". Cheers!

Blackbriar has many good songs. Zora's voice is always hauntingly beautiful. A good song to fit with this months theme would be Seance.

I love Blackbriar so much! So many great songs to check out. Zora is an amazing singer, and lyrics are always so deep and thought-provoking.
My reading of this song (and others where Zora plays a witch) is that it's reviewing the ways that power femininity has been historically been constructed as a threat (blaming powerful women/witches for all the things that go wrong and sins of men), and then reclaiming that for women today to embrace and find strength from. Of course, it's not the woman's fault that the man lusts after her or has sinful thoughts--he needs to take responsibility for himself. But women also shouldn't have to apologize for being strong, smart, and independent, and having their own opinions and goals for their lives.

Ahh that's very interesting. I like that take of it. Makes it seem less evil when you think of it that way. 👍😂

Hi! As I'm seeing it, Weakness and Lust (and its prequel "Confess", on the same album) is about a woman responding sarcastically to "Malleus Maleficarum" by accusing herself of all the tares associated with witchcraft (in order to denounce them). (Side notes : "Malleus Maleficarum" is a famous treatise used in the fifteenth-century witch-hunt in Europe which explains, among other things, that since women are weaker and intellectually inferior, they are predisposed to give in to the devil's temptations and become witches.)
Also the song "I'd rather burn" can be considered as the conclusion of it as it tells about a "witch" sentenced to the stake, promising revenge.
Zora used to have harsh vocals at the very beginning of the band, but as she found out that it's actually bad and painful for her larynx, she doesn't use screamings anymore. (And I personally think it's a great choice for her and for the band beeing than one more step distinguished from the others)
Thank you so much for your reaction ❤ !!

Nice reaction. Blackbriar are amazing. This song is part 3 of a 4 song narrative. In "Lilith Begone" a woman asserts her equality to men and is condemned; in "Confess" she is accused of witchcraft for demanding equality; in "Weakness and Lust" she gives a mocking confession to all the ills of the world; and in "I'd Rather Burn" she curses her executioners on the way to burn at the stake.
In the song "Fairy of the Bog" she gives a voice to a woman sacrificed some 3'000 years ago in modern day Netherlands (whose preserved body was found in the 1960s I think)...it is beautiful, haunting
