Another one is learning-memorizing the answer directly when you write your question (Ali suggests to do active recall even before you start to write your questions, during your first read. I think he says that in another video), then, when you ask yourself first time using active recall (testing yourself), you don't have to memorize, you have to recall the anwser and start to use spaced repetition to test yourself. Obviously, if you don't remember the answer to your question, you have to study-memorize it again and test yourself later or next day again and then start to use spaced repetition

Anyway, heres how i did it:
1 - ISOLATE. I traveled back to my home country and lived in an empty house by myself to ensure i had 0 distractions.
2 - treat it as if u were an elite level athlete training for their next fight or something. This means, eat clean to avoid feeling sluggish, consume foods and drinks that promote blood flow and are good for the brain. Make sure you are sleeping exactly 8 hours a day (no more or less). Never sacrifice sleep as it plays a vital role in helping you learn and retain information.
3 - ensure u r studying in the most efficient way possible. Dont waste time on stuff u already know. Use the tips in the video for this.
4 - its important to develop a level of "love" for ur subject. This makes sure that u dont have stuff u wld rather be doing (using ur phone for example). You really have to WANT to study every waking moment of ur day. U can try developing this kind of "love" for ur subjects by frequently thinking about y u like ur subjects and maybe relating it to things u come across in ur day to day life.
You really need to be in peak performance mode to pull this off. Also, make sure to spend a good amount of time doing past papers.

I'm a first year Physiotherapy student and I just realised how much this could have helped me with an exam I had recently where I had to know anatomy, pathologies, tests, treatments etc for various body parts. I spent so long on things like the hip and knee to perfect my knowledge of them and because of that, ended up knowing barely anything about the ankle joint. I think this tip is going to help me a lot for my neuromusculoskeletal exam, thank you so much! :)

To blitz through a topic and just try to actively recall it and then move on rather than to focus too hard when reading is such terrific advice. Not only is it proven to be effective but it also saves a lot of time.
I also love how you emphasized that effective studying methods, i.e. active recall methods, are more cognitively demanding than highlighting, underlining and rereading. Often I hear the advice, "Don't study hard, study less by studying smart"--when actually, studying LESS IS studying hard! Highlighting and rereading will take hours but it is undoubtedly the "easy" route because you're not challenging yourself. It's way more demanding on your brain to do active recall although it's faster and more efficient. Thank you for helping me realize that spending hours "studying hard" is actually quite lazy if you think about it...

    Takeaways:
    1. Space your revisions. Remember the forgetting curve!
    2. Review the study tomorrow and then 3 days later. The more spaced it is, more good it will be glued to the brain.
    3. The harder your brain try to retrieve an info, the more durable it will be.
    5. Manage a Spaced Repetition sheet.

I realize this is an old post, however; there is a twist. In art school taking a life drawing class where a model would pose anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, our professor decided to use a technique similar to what you describe. He instructed the model to pose for 5 minute poses, and here is the twist, the student were not allowed to draw during the pose, only after the model had left the room where they allowed to start drawing. The results were shocking/astounding/amazing!!! It forced student to improve there abilities in ways never before possible, we developed the ability to see someone in a random setting and then draw a likeness from memory. This ability stayed with me for years. I would see someone in a social situation and could draw a characterized comic book like scene. What an incredible lesson/technique.
