Jools killed it!
Matt Johnson has a voice that transcends you to a place of emotion of sexual nature. Probably one of the top 5 most underrated bands from the era.
Great reaction, and a great, great song of course... Jools Holland says that this jaw-dropping piano solo is the single thing he's most asked about in his career.
This song is so excellent. You'd probabably enjoy the "Infected"-album or the superb "The beat(en) generation"-single from "Mind bomb".
absolutely loved this album as a teen, I have no idea why I stopped listening to it at some point, but this reaction made me really nostalgic and makes me want to relisten to it again.
The 10 min version is a lot better than the album version. Jools Holland of squeeze played the piano solo in one take. The long version has a sax and flute solos on it

I think The The and Soft Cell we’re the two most popular bands on the Some Bizarre label. About this song, the end remind me a little bit the Aladdin Sane piano solo of Bowie. Hope you dig more on the music of this band and also give a chance to The Art Of Falling Apart or This Last Night In Sodom from Soft Cell.
Absolutely love this album- I’ve been waiting for this day and Giant are immense tunes. Just took me back to mid 80s when I was 17 in my open top Jeep - happy days 👍 That piano solo - how good is it. Yes it was Jools 👍👍👍 Legend
Listen to Mind Bomb. All of it. Infected is good. Mind Bomb is better. Armageddon Days is out of this world.

Yes, the piano section is so cool. The only part I'm not so crazy about is the way they just fade it out at the end. Not sure what a better handling would be, but it should have been tried.
The piano solo was originally planned to be a mid-song break. Jools was surprised to hear it as the outro when the song was finished.
Jules Holland makes this song akin too Stevie Wonder doing harmonica on other artists songs from good to great

The Beat(en) Generation changed everything for me. A perfect song. Matt and Johnny Marr equals sonic perfection. Timeless classic.

I do wish everybody would stop calling such things "solos." They're not. They're instrumental interludes, or intros, or outros, or bridges, or something. Not solos, unless the instrument really is by itself.
Infected album was awesome too along with Dusk which was just seminal.

Jools tried to repeat the solo on his live show with The The but could not.....once off masterpiece of a solo
I prefer Dusk but this album is pretty good too.
