Sir you are a legend I spent 4 hours trying to get the pivot and the blade back in tact and found your video and it only took me a second to fix..thanks heaps mate
Everyone raves about the Bugout. I bought a mini bugout and I like it a lot, but it's a little small in my hands. I bought a Bugout and absolutely hate it. It's been sitting in the "knife drawer" for months. All of a sudden, RUclips started feeding me videos... so I have KPL and Flytanium scales on order!!! I can't wait to love this knife as much as I should have to begin with. Thanks for the video!
I’m with you, the Benchmade “Grivory” is injection molded plastic that isn’t finished properly with injection ports left exposed and feeling like cheap plastic . The Bugout is a nice model if you swap out your Grivory. I bought a nice contoured burlap micarta that made the knife fell like the quality I want and a more ridge platform.
Benchmade makes some wonderful knives. Love that Bugout. I've got an old school 940 and a Super Freek and swap them for daily. I believe in buying locally and they are just up the road from me. Best warranty in the knife market.
Great video. I installed Flytanium Crossfade scales in Flat Dark Earth on my former Benchmade Bugout with carbon fiber elite scales. I agree with you that they just feel cheap. I appreciate the light weight but I prefer my Bugout with the Flytanium G10 scales.
Your video helped more than any other I watched. Was having trouble with the pivot. Keeping the bit through the pivot hole when putting it back in and then pulling the lock did the trick. Thanks!!
I can relate. And this comes from someone who happily carried an Endura for most of a decade. From reviews I knew I'd hate the factory scales. I hated the Griptillian scales so much I dumped 3 or 4 of them and replaced with the over priced G10 versions. Anyhow, I bought my titanium scales FIRST and about 3 months later finally got around to buying the knife. I never even opened it, just stripped it and put the new scales on. Only way to go. Only thing I really did differently is remove the factory lube and replace with KPL after polishing the washers on a 3000 grit stone.
Len Zielenski I’d say that really smoothed out the action of the knife. I should have probably done that as well. Oh and you are correct those factory scales are horrible.
great video man! I just got some 535 Bugouts to customize and I did stone washed copper with copper backspacer and copper thumbstub, gonna put some titanium on a Mini Bugout and brass on a Mini Bugout as well
I got brass scales. I like the blade, but didn't like the lightweight scales. You're right they feel like scales you get when you buy a knife out of a bulk jug at flea market. But before I could put my scales on I had to send my brand new bugout to benchmade to get the broken axis lock fixed. I literally opened it 5 times and it took a shit on me.
Thanks! This technique can also be used to replace the omega springs, I guess. Replace the spring one side, then flip over to the other while holding the pivot. Then replace the other spring.
Just a heads up, a dab of loctite on the pivot does wonders. My pivot screw kept backing itself out of a brand new CF Elite that I bought and every screw on the right scale was loose.
Nope you are 100% correct them bugout scale are cheap rediculas I can't stand standard scales and I don't feel confident using it for any real hard tasks with them weak feeling scales. so I put TI scales on my bugout No lanyard hole I'm not a lanyard fan so for all Spyderco Barrell tubes I buy these great solid plugs, solid.spiral.and my fav in the tube hole are cross hairs like on a scope I have many colors it just brings out my mod a lil more. Good vid
I just put the brand new contoured titanium scales from flytanium on mine yesterday. It’s Much better but I must say I think it’s it bit sad that the knife kind of sucks until you change scales. Once you’ve made it a $200 knife it’s great. 😂
Once a benchmade is broken in it will drop on it's own. I've never loosened the pivot to make it drop. I just open and close it then usually within a day or two it's broken in.
Here is how I feel….if you know the bugout feels cheap, then don’t buy it. There are plenty of other offers that would meet your needs. It’s like the videos where people buy a glock and replace everything on it. Or a Kimber, and they replace this and that, and now it works. But sir, it’s your money, and I respect your view, you do you. 😀
Grizzly Country Thats true, unless they watch this video. Down side of youtuber. When I mod my cars I can’t put them back to normal because the people at my dealership watch my videos
When you say Loctite, you mean thread locker, right? This might confuse some people since Loctite is a glue manufacturer..and then use superglue to lock in the screws. I really wish people (especially knife-tubers) could just start using the correct terms. Thread locker is made by many different companies..not just Loctite.
I love how people advocate for GRN handles by saying their lightweight...any full sized knife below 3.5 oz is barely noticeable in the pocket, Benchmade coulda gone with micarta or even G10 originally for the bugout and it still would have been under 2.5 oz...GRN sucks
Sir you are a legend
I spent 4 hours trying to get the pivot and the blade back in tact and found your video and it only took me a second to fix..thanks heaps mate
Thank you! Your video is still just as useful 4 years later!

That tip with engaging the axis lock to get the pivot back in worked perfect. Thank you!
It did! I wouldn’t have completed the job without this tip.
Thanks, Andy. I was able to swap scales for the first time with your tuteledge!

Putting the pivot back in is a real piece of work!
Yea it can definitely be a pain
yeah that D-shaped pivot can be troublesome it's a pain
@@SurvivalSpec Definitely
Howdy ya'll, that there accent is great to listen too brother. Thanks for the video, helped me swap my scales.

Excellent video, sir! Down to earth information presented in a very attractive setting. I even enjoyed the backhoe sounds.
Thank you

You are very welcome, happy I could help

I put titanium scales on mine last night and what a difference. Just waiting on my titanium backspacer to get here now.
Very helpful video, and that color combo you went with looks very clean👌
Looks like a great way to change the Omega springs as well!
I agree, I’d say it would be
Tranks a lot for the tips... been strugeling for 45mn to put the pivot back in, with your advices it took me 2... !!!
great video man! I just got some 535 Bugouts to customize and I did stone washed copper with copper backspacer and copper thumbstub, gonna put some titanium on a Mini Bugout and brass on a Mini Bugout as well

Thank you, I will check mine periodically and if they loosen I will ad a drop
i got a backspacer and it solved most the problems I was having and then I got new scales and it’s a lot better. but the backspacer is a must
Those are the color scales I just ordered for my bugout, I love that color too
Just got the standard blue bugout, but I'm eyeing the brass crossfade scales to go with the blue.
I have the blacked out version. But the scales you got are sick looking.
Jay Taylor24 Thanks Jay. I was just thinking I’d like to have a car or truck painted the color of these scales.
Good video. Good trick, too. Thank you.
You need to engage the axis lock in order for pivot to slide all the way up make sure nothing hindering the liners up to scale 👍
Thank you, hopefully this helps someone because I didn’t know that and struggled a little

Thank you, and yea I would never use a Bugout stock for very hard tasks.
THANKS you answered one Of My most important questions..NEW SUBSCRIBER!🐅😁😉
Thank you for subbing 👍
Any grippiness to these scales?
When installing the pivot pin where does the flat spot go? Towards the top end? 12oclock?
Nice work!! I'm not a fan of the original scales either. If you have working hands and they're real calloused those scales are almost glassy feeling.
I agree

I can't agree more with those scales feeling cheap. I'm waiting on some copper scales right now

Grizzly Country This one was weird it broke in some but nowhere near drop free
Nice! I like that color!
WhoDatDelSol Thank you
Ooooh Happy Day.
If you just take one scale off at a time you don’t need to worry about the pivot.
Hows it nice knife

Where is best to buy knifes in store
WhoDatDelSol I go to Smokey Mountain Knife Works if I’m buying them in a store.
Three months ago you made this. Wonder what it took so long to show up?
RUclips doesn’t like to promote gun and knife videos
@@pro2andy791 so what else is new with UTube. They have many other questionable sites.
By the way all you have to do is put the original scales back on and send it in for warranty work.

Can you shoot a deer from your back pourch?
I haven’t seen many deer the past few years but yes, if one came through I could.
I have a Walmart knife, yup scales feels the same
Sup Andy
WhoDatDelSol Sup An
Darn how cheap?
WhoDatDelSol Expensive for what it is
T6 and T10

Only issue I have is everyone want to put China scales on these knifes .
