- What is the homeward turn? How is it a phrase that describes a particular cultural moment in time, where some of us may find ourselves searching for something inexplicable: a draw to something perhaps in our past? Yet, we meet these histories of religion and spirituality afresh, we've outgrown these, and going 'backward' is problematic in the West. How do we reconcile these contradictions, and come into good relations with our ancestors, within our own cultures, in the West?
In Week 2 of Contemporary Spirituality, British social thinker, writer, speaker Dougald Hine explores the reawakening of interest in tradition, with the recognition that the West has always had deep spiritual traditions hidden beneath layers of corruption. He helps us navigate these tensions in the ruins of modernity, to explore the parts that get left out of the story.
