I feel like this is surely expensive but there are not really a lot of monitors with this feature set, and back when the asus pro art mini led display came out like 2 years ago, that thing cost like 4.5k, so this is at least a big step up from that era.
While I don't have the money to get it, I love that this is not a bunch of cheap plastics and cleaner overall in all ways, You have something that looks professional but can be used for entertainment, and yeah If you have the money why buy the plastic ones when it's in your face all the time. Aesthetics is why you pay more, probably will last longer than the Samsung the way they have been lately, and definitely longer than the Chinese budget brands. It's the Porsche when you could get a Vette that is better in some ways for less, but look closer and you see your value in extra work and I think neither would give someone buyers remorse.
Hey Plouffe. Actually there are some major issues with Samsung monitor coz it is using a VA panel and in many reviews people are saying they are seeing scan lines and other hardware issues with the monitor. Also that monitor is Curved so not for many people. This AOC monitor is really good. 32inch 4K mini-led 144hz and straight monitor. Absolutely loved it. BTW the back side is so clean and the stand is beautiful. Yeah a little bit price reduction is required.
My AOC U32U1 is also porsche designed but sticks with the AOC logo. It's actually excellent value for money for a 10 bit, aRGB 32" 4K monitor, I don't feel like the (excellent) design and build quality cost me any extra.
I always keep the boxes and packaging for my higher priced toys, just in case I plan to resell them in the future. People buying used hardware love having the original packaging and paperwork. I know I'd prefer the original box, etc, if buying used.
Agreed on the power brick, I'm not mounting my PC monitors flush against a wall, so it won't kill me if they're a bit thicker. About the only plus side is if something power related fails you can likely replace it, even after warranty as long as they actually purchase extra stock for such occasions. Also some times the cable from the brick isn't long enough, so depending on multiple aspects of your desk situation it may dangle or have to sit on your desk. Also from an IT perspective, plenty of spare power cables like your PSU and old(/some new) monitors used laying around.
Bought an AOC 24G2U (24" 1080p IPS 1ms 144hz) and it only lasted 2 years before having problems with the pixels now showing properly, LUCKILY it had 3 year guarantee and I returned it back to the shop, currently waiting for a response of what will happen but AOC is dead for me. My older generic Philips monitor (IPS 1080p 60hz) is going strong for 10 years now LOL!
I know Porsche is the star of the show here, but AOC really deserves some credit for their monitor game. While they have some crappy stuff like any company, they’ve got a metric shit load of monitor SKU’s ranging from very budget to super high end, and a lot of them are really good and pretty fairly priced. To me it seems like their monitors get overlooked a lot by tech-tube.
The 27'' monitor is actually reasonably priced at €500. 170hz IPS 1440p, basically the AOC AGON AG275QX, which retails for about 400. 100 Euros for the Porsche logo isn't quite as insane. Yes it is just a logo but in grand scheme of things not terribly insulting. Actually looks like the bezals on the Porsche one are even thinner.
About 8-9 years back I was in Rome with my dad and we decided to walk into the Porsche store. I walked around a while, and being a high schooler, quickly realized the only thing I could justify (and even that's a HUGE stretch) was a 15 Euro pack of Porsche stickers! Kinda hilarious but analogous to what they've done here clearly lmao
Honestly I was expecting way less features, or way more money for it. It's 4k 32 inch, which is the absolute best balance imo as far as resolution, ppi and real estate is concerned (I strongly dislike ultrawides), 144hz are brilliant for anything other than uber sweaty competitive FPS, and the screen can display proper HDR. You do also get that fancy stand instead of just a porsche logo, and all that don't cost 2500+ euro that I was expecting. You could get the Odyssey NEO G7 for a bit less, but if you are on the market for a monitor of that calibre, you've already spent 1500 to 2500 euro for a GPU to drive it, it's not that exorbitant. Good job PD
Unpopular opinion: You don't need any response time faster than 4 ms. Not going to notice a different, you want OLED perfect response for its motion reliability (because it's perfect in any colour, so no ghosting or smearing - ever regardless of the scene), but not really that extra clarity. Not that you can pixel peek motion anyway, and competitive player probably need less input lag than better motion clarity
A $400 luxury tax for a 4k144 TRUE 1000+ nit HDR panel that's 32", has FOUR USB inputs, a mic passthrough, AND integrated speakers? Honestly? Not as bad as I thought. How's the warranty?
AAA is better than in-built Lithium batteries. Helps in longevity. You can use rechargeable AAA if you want to. But if they used lithium batteries, they would seal it up and make it un-repairable and even if they gave easy access with screws, the battery would go out of circulation since it would most likely be a lipo pack with some non standard funky design or something. Pencil cells are the best. Use rechargeable if you want, Never have to beg the manufacturer for spares. Overall, win-win.
I feel like that Tommy Hilfiger gaming keyboard and mouse set would pair nicely with this monitor ;) Seems you can tell which brand actually employs engineers.
Nearly couldn't stop myself from commenting what the pd logo on the Porsche Design monitor was but Plouffe's pin mercifully dropped just in time. Oh wait there I go.
Thank goodness Porsche came out with this monitor to remind everyone that you can pay literally any other brand to get a monitor of similar spec, if not better, for half the price.
Porsche Design is a different company from Porsche the car maker that makes the cars like 911 and Taycan. And Porsche is a subbrand from Volkswagen group. And Porsche Automobil Holding SE owns Volkswagen group, but is different from Porsche the car maker or Porsche Design that sells other electronics and accessories. Maybe someone already said the same in the comment.
BTW, the little "gear" he was playing with under the stand is a little light that projects the Porsche Design logo. I'm guessing he was opening and closing the shutter.
The pc mic can be used as a passthrough audio for a switch or something like that with a 3,5mm jack and use Windows to listen to that microphone so you can use your switch and continue in discord with your friends, all in the same workstation
you do indeed pronounce the e at the end, of porsche. fun fact.. porsche design also makes other things. soundbars, watches, headphones... and there's apparently also a gaming chair (looks like all the other ones) for over 4000 CAD. lol I recall reading about a porche designed kitchen. that was quite weird. And on their site you can also buy porsche hoods (yes, engine hoods, for your porsche) with various designs. Also i agree. built in power bricks is easily my prefered way of doing it. Though my recent gaming monitor has a tiny tiny power brick.. which is nice. (about the size of a small macbook charger) This monitor design only seems to focus on the stand, though? the monitor itself is pretty standard. a slim bezel and the lip at the bottom. But the stand is unique, i guess? so not much point of buying this, if you're gonna mount it on an arm (which always looks best... - highly recommended!)
1:45 "I really wish it was rechargeable" - so instead of allowing you to use rechargeable batteries that you can get 20 years from now, you prefer this controller to be unusable after 3-5 years? Hard disagree. I'm very happy to see AA(A) batteries in stuff, as long as I can use rechargeable batteries. But wired seems to be the superior option; there's no need for this to be wireless
Was quite amused watching this one with the battery powered OSD controller, straight after watching Linus and the no batteries video. Nice screen, way over priced with many better options at the same or lower price. Thats the problem when you slap a Porsche badge on it.
0:50 in Germany, I prefer the styrofoam because the weird foam you have here our recycling places don't take, this foam stuff you have to put into your house trash which has a limited capacity and is only emptied every two weeks or so.
If they made this to at least 165Hz and Displayport 2.0 with glossy finish, I might have been tempted. I have Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 and I would like to see this compared to it side-by-side. This is also an IPS display. Black contrast may suffer.
In regards to external power bricks... Companies think that everybody wants screens that are as thin as possible. To me though, I feel that those ultra thin monitors feels flimsy. I get worried whenever I need to move them, or just adjust the angle or something. You don't save any space. I mean, it still needs a monitor arm or a stand. It will take up just as much space as a monitor with a thicker chassis, which will also make it sturdier. It's just a silly gimmick that will die out once people get used to the idea of super-thin monitors and there's no longer any "wow factor".
@@kevinwells9751 True. I recently built a system for a friend of mine, using the new Samsung ultrawide QDOLED. Whenever we had to move it, I felt like it was going to come apart. It didn't of course, but it felt a bit too wobbly for my taste.

@@dieselbaby £700. Only other competitors for my use are BENQ and the like which are much dimmer as well as uglier
I always keep the boxes and packaging for my higher priced toys, just in case I plan to resell them in the future. People buying used hardware love having the original packaging and paperwork. I know I'd prefer the original box, etc, if buying used.
@@dieselbaby yeah man nothing worse than a guy lowballing you a bit because you are missing oem cables or the box lol.
Especially because this is already a beefy monitor with the speakers and whatnot, so why not integrate the power supply?
You saying properly Porsche during the video is sooooo good :D I love it!
Not Posh, Porsh or any other naming scheme.
I'll be honest I upvoted just because of the insert of the PS start up sound.....Just the best.
Take a shot every time plouffe says bad boy
kudos for pronouncing porsche correctly! also kind of want to get this monitor now it’s a better deal than the apple studio display
Good job PD
I love that Short circuit background!!
If it had KVM it would be the most extra features in a monitor ever. The warranty is 3 years
@@rafalxyz dude, if this had KVM, it would be an instant hit. But the warranty...oof. If it was 5 years, then I could understand.
7:11 - You forget just how awesome the original PlayStation power on sound was.
11:22 made me think there is some crazy motion sensors on the side as well.
Use rechargeable if you want,
Never have to beg the manufacturer for spares.
Overall, win-win.
Solid monitor, It's just way too expensive. I appreciate that some serious thought went behind pretty much everything. Credit where it's due I suppose
Plouffe your pronunciation is spot on. Please keep it 👌🏻
I mean, if I had $1,800 to just piss away on a gaming monitor, I'd probably buy it just to say I own a Porsche.
We need a full review now! Many thanks in advance
Maybe someone already said the same in the comment.
honestly, 1800€ for a monitor with a Porsche logo sounds pretty good in a vacuum. i expected AT LEAST 4000€
As a german i can say, You pronounced it 100% right! Good enough for an non native speaker
I was waiting for someone to review this!! Glad it you guys
1:36 They even used Porsche font! Nice!
But that RGB implementation does not belong to something associated with Porsche.
This looks great too i want one. I remember the acer f-20 ferrari i used to own about 15 years ago great monitor.
Why not use floatplane for the 8k video test?
BTW, the little "gear" he was playing with under the stand is a little light that projects the Porsche Design logo. I'm guessing he was opening and closing the shutter.
Can't stand when companies overcharge on the conversion from USD to CAD.
Very interesting display they came up with, but how does it not have a built-in KVM? It has all the ins and outs for it, just need a button to switch.
With 2 portrait scrreen on each side i rather have the thick bottom bezel outward on each side so roataing both way is a big +
Canadian government probably put some ridiculous import tariff on it because it says Porsche.
13:35 Luckily aLTX is coming so a lot of people can get a chance to play on it.
The pc mic can be used as a passthrough audio for a switch or something like that with a 3,5mm jack and use Windows to listen to that microphone so you can use your switch and continue in discord with your friends, all in the same workstation
Aside from games, what other method would you use for HDR on PC instead of RUclips? No apps support it, not Netflix or Disney+
Netflix apparently supports it if you use edge or the windows 10 app
@@Willard_guy wow you’re right! When did that get upgraded? Its wven got Atmos support!
@@msquirrel1 Not a clue when they updated it. I never use the app since I could never get the audio to work properly and only got stattic.
These 1152 zone panels are sick but the tight bright mini led zones cause haloing so bad it makes my PG27UQ look like an OLED.
you do indeed pronounce the e at the end, of porsche.
fun fact.. porsche design also makes other things. soundbars, watches, headphones... and there's apparently also a gaming chair (looks like all the other ones) for over 4000 CAD. lol
I recall reading about a porche designed kitchen. that was quite weird.
And on their site you can also buy porsche hoods (yes, engine hoods, for your porsche) with various designs.
Also i agree. built in power bricks is easily my prefered way of doing it.
Though my recent gaming monitor has a tiny tiny power brick.. which is nice. (about the size of a small macbook charger)
This monitor design only seems to focus on the stand, though?
the monitor itself is pretty standard. a slim bezel and the lip at the bottom.
But the stand is unique, i guess?
so not much point of buying this, if you're gonna mount it on an arm (which always looks best... - highly recommended!)
"Whats goin on gamer"
*empties magazine into his back*
1:45 "I really wish it was rechargeable" - so instead of allowing you to use rechargeable batteries that you can get 20 years from now, you prefer this controller to be unusable after 3-5 years?
Hard disagree. I'm very happy to see AA(A) batteries in stuff, as long as I can use rechargeable batteries.
But wired seems to be the superior option; there's no need for this to be wireless
I like to put my high end monitor vertical from time to time for designing posters, magazines. But not that often
i got myself some Porsche Design sunglasses with prescription glasses in them, best thing i ever bought. well worth the 450€
That PS1 sound is so nostalgic. Might have to make that my text tone now.
It really is amazing how even when making a computer monitor, Porsche is still Porsche.
FYI 2:27 is the Porsche Design logo.
Was quite amused watching this one with the battery powered OSD controller, straight after watching Linus and the no batteries video.
Nice screen, way over priced with many better options at the same or lower price. Thats the problem when you slap a Porsche badge on it.
That can go with the Porsche harddrives and laptops they used to slap their logo on and charge you extra for
I have a 49" 1440p 120hz Super-Ultrawide monitor from Agon and it was $1050 cheaper than the monitor in this video
0:50 in Germany, I prefer the styrofoam because the weird foam you have here our recycling places don't take, this foam stuff you have to put into your house trash which has a limited capacity and is only emptied every two weeks or so.
This is one of the coolest looking monitors I've seen, I dig it
I trust this guy's opinion, he owns a monitor.
Missed the opportunity to call the Porsche in 2077.
If they made this to at least 165Hz and Displayport 2.0 with glossy finish, I might have been tempted. I have Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 and I would like to see this compared to it side-by-side.
This is also an IPS display. Black contrast may suffer.
I think this is the same panel as the Viewsonic 4k mini-LED for double the price?
Ah yes, the gaming edition of that bit in Top Gear about the Porsche Design pipes.
Porsche pronunciation fully approved. You can get your German passport if you exit through the gift shop.
love the look on the monitor stand. Pretty clean
What's dumb is that this isn't a thin monitor in the first place! There should be plenty of room in there for the PSU
@@kevinwells9751 True. I recently built a system for a friend of mine, using the new Samsung ultrawide QDOLED. Whenever we had to move it, I felt like it was going to come apart. It didn't of course, but it felt a bit too wobbly for my taste.
