Linus: Look, no work is getting done, I'm gonna have to roll up my sleeves and delegate. Also Linus: I'm gonna get inside the rackmount cabinet and I want you guys to push me around the warehouse. WHEEEE!!!!
If you every get the chance, try using a 23" cabinet with 19" adapater rails inside. A standard 19" cabinet like that is so annoying to do cableing of any kind inside. The extra room make it so much easier to manage cables, PDUs, etc. You will thank me!
Ah the memories. Having to re-rack an entire server room, on your own, out of hours, and you get to the end and just hope everything is connected correctly. Never gets old
Garry Dan and Jake need their own show. My eyes are watering 🤣. "Put it on the floor" "It's on the floor" "Oh that's smart, I'd have just put it on the floor"
There is a metal thing called "cage nut inserter tool" which helps to insert the cage nut to the rack with one move, and also your finger in safety ;) The thing what I'm talking about looks like an PCI slot cover, but with bent ends (and it costs only a few bucks)
I love the lower effort vlog videos just hanging out with the crew doing things... It is surprisingly satisfying just seeing a big project get worked on.
Yeah I'm shopping around for Thunderbolt 4/USB4 stuff and I really would love some cable testing results from their fancy cable signal integrity tester.
This is my favorite vlog in a long while. The energy between Linus, Jake, and Dan is perfect... well perfect chaos. And it's beautiful. I couldn't stop laughing
I fricken LOVED this! In fact I would love it if you guys put out a video of how to give a server room a makeover. Proper placement of equipment in a network rack. Stuff like that is so hard to find.
When you fill your new cab with copper (90 more runs?) it's going to be really hard to force that door shut 19:48. You can adjust the rails to create more clearance in the front for housing switches instead of servers ; )
It's a good idea to use at least a 70 cm wide rack for network racks like this. Some will even argue for an 80 cm wide rack. The sides can accomodate more cables and it's easier to add new cables once the rack is populated. Avoid putting the rack against the wall, as access to the sides will help maintain cables for it later. Usually the back 19" bracket will be recessed further into the rack so that switches can be placed in the back and have plenty of room for cables and SFP's to stick out. Think about PDU placement so power plugs do not hinder the removal of equipment once the rack is populated, if you use the back side. Mounting switches on the front, you would usually move the brackets back a bit to allow for the same effect. Put storage in another rack besides the network rack - it will make everything much easier and be less of a pain to expand. Clever things those rack studs. Also look into a labelwriter that prints on self lamenating labels. The text field will be protected by the clear end of the label, and never fall off or smudge. Edit: There is an installation tool for cage nuts.
This was great. I'd happily watch Jake and Dan organize all that and make it neat. I feel like we only get videos that go up to a certain point and we never get the finished product. It's always, "We're waiting for X to arrive or get finished." Getting that last bit where everything comes together would be satisfying, although I'm not sure how many other people would watch that kind of thing.
I'd love to see this rack get finished so long as these three do it again. I'd understand if Linus didn't have time, but to see Dan and Jake just picking relentlessly on Linus is awesome: "I normally just put it on the floor."
Normal videos are fun, but we need more stuff like this. Even if they are working, all of them look like they are having the time of thier life. Keep it up, can't wait to see what the lab will be able to do.
I love Dan's flavorful humor with really dry delivery. It's a hilarious combination without being over-the-top. It makes it very easy to take him seriously while it stays entertaining.
I must admit, I really like the way you value and respect your employees opinions and intelligence. It makes me want to work for you, and I see that in them. Well done.

Dan just knows when to get out of the way and be quiet and when to make a point. What a Chad
"Colton's my manager I'm just your B*TCH"
It's why he's such a good live stream producer too haha
This whole 'Chad' comment is used way too much, and for some of the biggest dweebs I've ever seen.
I would pay money to see another “help desk technician” live stream with Linus and some others doing the actual challenge. And then having Jake be the ref, and have Dan, Riley, and James doing the live commentary
Linus: Look, no work is getting done, I'm gonna have to roll up my sleeves and delegate.
Also Linus: I'm gonna get inside the rackmount cabinet and I want you guys to push me around the warehouse. WHEEEE!!!!
It's good to be king.
Dan is quickly becoming one of my favorite personalities on LTT.
If you every get the chance, try using a 23" cabinet with 19" adapater rails inside. A standard 19" cabinet like that is so annoying to do cableing of any kind inside. The extra room make it so much easier to manage cables, PDUs, etc. You will thank me!
too late bro
@@MrPaxio This is Linus Media Group we’re talking about. They *will* be doing this again.
@@thewiirocks - But probably not for a while
Yes agreed.
@@MrPaxio IKR? hey already went with that orange!
I gotta give props to LTT for the bomb subtitles on their videos. Audio processing is hard for me sometimes and it helps exponentially.
Ah the memories. Having to re-rack an entire server room, on your own, out of hours, and you get to the end and just hope everything is connected correctly. Never gets old
And at one point, just get contractors as you can blame them if it messes upz
@@wobblysauce yeah when the employees time costs more than a contract just like Linus eluded to at the end of the video.
One of my favorite recent LTT videos. The trio of Linus, Jake, and Dan is hilarious. Always love vlog style videos.
Garry Dan and Jake need their own show. My eyes are watering 🤣. "Put it on the floor" "It's on the floor" "Oh that's smart, I'd have just put it on the floor"
Nature's bucket
There is a metal thing called "cage nut inserter tool" which helps to insert the cage nut to the rack with one move, and also your finger in safety ;) The thing what I'm talking about looks like an PCI slot cover, but with bent ends (and it costs only a few bucks)
I love the lower effort vlog videos just hanging out with the crew doing things... It is surprisingly satisfying just seeing a big project get worked on.
The testing lab Is going to be crazy sweet when finished.
I can see it being an extremely valuable resource for researching components and peripherals
Yeah I'm shopping around for Thunderbolt 4/USB4 stuff and I really would love some cable testing results from their fancy cable signal integrity tester.
This video is already outdated - we've made a lot of progress in the last 2 weeks ;)
@@jakedaynesLTT Thanks for the update Jake! You guys are doing a great job keep it up!
Every time Jake and Linus interact in these scenarios I'm like "Ah, Linus and his second spouse are at it again"
Dan is his side chick
@@Jimmy_Jones Naw man. It's Linus Tech Polycule
This is my favorite vlog in a long while. The energy between Linus, Jake, and Dan is perfect... well perfect chaos. And it's beautiful. I couldn't stop laughing
Dan: "Colton's my boss, I'm just your b****." Dammit Dan, we love you. Easily the MVP of the LTT newbies.
I fricken LOVED this! In fact I would love it if you guys put out a video of how to give a server room a makeover. Proper placement of equipment in a network rack. Stuff like that is so hard to find.
Dan is a legend, proper funny dry humour!! i think we need to see the warehouse contractor work too!!
Jake, Dan, and Linus are such a chaotic trio! IN all the best ways
Linus was giving major Michael Scott on the warehouse forklift vibes lmao
Shoutout to Dan for mapping and labeling all the network runs. What a goat.
If you need to shoutout someone for doing what is absolute standard in the IT business then something is very wrong.
I like Dan though, Dan rocks.
@@JasperSchwinghammer A standard on paper, not many people actually do it
The work logs of Jake and Linus have always been the best videos and Dan is an excellent addition
2:55 "If it doesn't fit, we hit it"
I like it that way too, Gary.
18:03 "You throw your cables around and hope it attracts a lady, and it never does "points camera at Jake".
"if it doesn't fit, we hit it." What a legend. Definitely got the LMG spirit.
When you fill your new cab with copper (90 more runs?) it's going to be really hard to force that door shut 19:48. You can adjust the rails to create more clearance in the front for housing switches instead of servers ; )
Yeah our company policy is now 100mm back for fibre runs
I love when they're just carting Linus through the hallway like the king he is lol
*Short king
This was great. I'd happily watch Jake and Dan organize all that and make it neat. I feel like we only get videos that go up to a certain point and we never get the finished product. It's always, "We're waiting for X to arrive or get finished." Getting that last bit where everything comes together would be satisfying, although I'm not sure how many other people would watch that kind of thing.
I'd love to see this rack get finished so long as these three do it again. I'd understand if Linus didn't have time, but to see Dan and Jake just picking relentlessly on Linus is awesome: "I normally just put it on the floor."
@@ColinAverill It's fun to watch them joke around and give Linus a hard time, but the bit might feel forced if they did the same thing again.
Probally one of my Favorite videos in a long time . What an amazing team Linus has brought together.
This is my favourite LTT in a while. I've worked with people with similar energy doing similar repetitive tasks and there's nothing like it
I must admit, I really like the way you value and respect your employees opinions and intelligence. It makes me want to work for you, and I see that in them. Well done.
Honestly, this channel would be much better if they just build, tear down, rebuild their server rooms. This is easily the best content.
Freaking top notch editing on this. I loved the Dan-do-it-later counter throughout the episode.
Dan did it later
I love this networking content! I know it’s a slightly more niche interest but all the networking, homelab and smart home stuff is my favourite on LTT. Also, which EV chargers are you using??
The chemistry between you three is amazing. So fun to watch.
