Nate, one thing I would like to see as others may also. I would like to see a cutaway cross section of the pcv valve to get an idea of what the valve and seating surfaces look like and the materials they are made of.
Murph, Nate, all: GM engine on a Chev Volt is throwing oil out the tailpipe, 3 quarts in about 30 miles. Small droplets on the back of the car from the interstate air flow. Had to shut it down. Just got this car. Yikes. Seems to run great. Did not suspect rings or low compression. Did not open the oil cap and check for blow by. No milkshake on the dipstick. Car got hot but not enough to ruin it - I don't think. Guess I can't get lukcy enough that something else other than needing motor tear down is blocking or sending oil out. How would a blocked PCV cause it to route out the exhaust anyway? Any tips appreciated.
I have a 5.7 Hemi and the whole pvc area is loaded with oil, I think that’s why I’m smelling burning oil, I will need to investigate this but it seems to be coming from the pvc.
Did anyone try installing a catch can on the 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey? Mine has an unusual PCV shape. Please let me know if installing the catch can on the 2010 Odyssey is possible. Or does it even need one? Thank you
I've got a 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3L and when I pull out at a red light or stop sign sometimes, I see a cloud of smoke behind me. I've replaced the valve covers on both sides, but I'm still seeing the cloud of smoke. The cloud of smoke doesn't show up every time I pull out, but I'd still like to know what the problem is so I can fix it before something bad happens. I just bought this truck last year for $18K so I'm pretty much stuck with it for a while. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Reply
Synthetic oil will not stop a engine from burning oil. There are aftermarket products like Lucas you can add to the oil to stop it from burning. But keep in mind it is not a fix and 50 percent of time it does not help. PCV are cheap and would not bother to try to clean and reuse unless you are in a pinch. A used PVC if you clean it would be good possibility for a short period then plug again. Also in check if it operating instead of hooking it back up to the system you can test it by using a vacuum source, connecting and disconnecting to see if the ball be5inside is working or not.
It is only my opinion if it is already giving you problems, it is better a new 15 or 20 dollars the price than to be with the problem in a few more days

Super 👌. The wd40 would not be more suitable for cleaning parts, it cleans and protects at the same time? Continue like this nates, I love your videos!
There are a few things you can try: 1. Use an engine oil flush 2. Use a good Syn oil 3. Go up a weight grade (30-40 weight) 4. Occasionally use a combustion cleaner 5. Most effective is a piston soak using Berryman's B-12
@@nickreyes4570 yes but where? I've got the Canadian manual. The maintenance schedule normal and severe schedule (I follow severe) do not explicitly state pcv replacement. Only thing I can find is section 7 emission control system pg 7-93 says it is recommended that you have your vehicle inspected and maintained by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer in accordance with the maintenance schedule in this manual. Nothing specific about replacing the pcv valve. I'll try that first as it's cheap and easy to replace. Then I'm getting rid of this pos vehicle.

Probably because you change only one. They never talk about that every car have 2 pcv. Try to figured out where's the other one and change too. One go close to the cap oil another go close to the engine block

What about you?
Can I spray intake valve cleaner in the pcv valve hose instead of the section of hose leading to throttle body?
You can, but it’s better to spray it as close as possible to the valves. The most atomization, the better.
You can spray it in the brake booster vac hose
Great job once again.

PCV valves are cheap to buy and easy to remove/install. Just get a new one and be done with it...
Plus, most of these values are cheap enough to add onto an oil change.
