      @@rajishkhatri9639 Ye...Lung fish, arapima, and probably even more fish species can breathe air, I mean swimbladders evolved from Lungs as during the Devonian period literally most fish had lungs due to lack of oxygen. Fish having lungs isnt a first time

      Probably not. These fish fill a very specific niche that they are specialized for. Unless there is a major change to the ecosystem that may cause animals that fill certain niches (in which it is beneficial to have fully formed legs) to go extinct then I don't see these animals evolving in that way. They have no reason to. There are already animals that currently fill that spot.

    What about their respiratory organs along with cutaneous respiration are they lungs or gills

      Good question!
      As well as breathing through their gills while in water on land, mudskippers can absorb oxygen directly from the air; through their skin and through the lining of their mouth - which is why they are often seen ‘gulping’ air.

    Do they feed on algae other than small insects

      It depends on the species. Some mudskipper species eat algae that grow on mangrove roots; others eat insects, worms and small crustaceans that live in the river mud.

    I feel like there use to be secret bipedal apes long before the dinosaurs and as soon as fish stepped out of water, they all died. Then these fish evolved in countless ways to eventually become the hip new bipedal apes of today who are now spending their time looking at fish stepping out of water.

    Personally, I think these creatures (along with lungfish) are different enough from actual fish that they deserve their own kind of grouping - not quite fish anymore, but not quite amphibian either. But something else that bridges the gap in evolution.

      They're omnivores and prefer to eat worms, crickets, flies, meal worms, beetles, small fish, and small crustaceans. 🦟
