Thanks for this. There is still a loophole for the schools to exploit the intl students and this wasn't addressed by the minister. Most schools will still collect application fees from thousands of students each year even when they know their allocation from their respective province can't cater for. I expect the authority to monitor the number of acceptance letters issued to students to safe the students stress of applying for visa which won't be granted due to quota system. Regards VO.

Nothing is constant in life but change. As long as the policy is temporary i will expect all stake holders to put their house in order between now and the two years deadline period. We can then assess thoroughly after then and know who is really to be blame! Meanwhile I will agree with you on other major study destinations consideration. A drastically reduced applications to Canada may raise new opportunities in others. My humble opinion. Tx

What my colleagues and I believe we heard, this week, from Immigration Minister Miller:
For higher populated provinces like Ontario a two year 50% cap (perhaps more)is being launched effecting Sept 2024 semester+. Less populated provinces, 35%. However certain students are cap-exempt, i.e. physicians, nurses, skilled trade workers.
International students will need to attach a "provincial attestation" to their study permit. Meaning the student must legally verify (via Canadian standards) that ALL of their necessary documents are indeed authentic.
Including per year showing they have $21,000 in savings (after their tuition is paid plus roundtrip travel costs).
Elements of monthly bank records will need to be shown (if asked for) proving the money is indeed THEIRS plus THEY are using it to pay for things they need from WITHIN Canada. No fraud.
No work permit for spouses. Unless the student is exempt (for specific reasons). Hence eliminating all the fake marriages.
Student's work permit expires upon graduation. Unless they qualify for exemptions.
PRIVATE colleges investigated (foreign interference). No more foreign agents, aka smugglers, cashing in too.
Cda schools are no longer to be used for people solely wanting PR or, even worse, plan on staying in Cda illegally if disqualified. Cda is in the top 10 for peaceful trustworthy countries and Canadians want it to stay that way for students etc..

    • @amyseaden9069

Pgwp remains for all eligible programs. Basically private/public partnerships no longer eligible and masters and other short term post grad programs (yet to be defined but likely university level) will qualify for 3 year pgwp. Families were never guaranteed any firm lf permit or visa. Family would on,y be able to visit the student in Canada if they are able to get a TRV. That would mean a stay of up to 6 months but they could be denied entry in Canada if there are concerns that they are not visiting and don’t have toes to return home like a job, homes, other dependent family members. You should assume family will not be able to join you to Canada while studying. It appears as though family may be able to join you and get SOWP when working on pgwp. We need further clarification,
