- Reviewing a new kayak fish bag for my 2021 Hobie Pro Angler 14/360-Drive. The Mako Spearguns fish and cooler bag.
Sold an Outback, with Hobie fish bag, earlier this year. Came across this kayak over-front-hatch type fish cooler bag. Giving it a try at 1/2+ the cost of new Hobie XL Fish bag.
Tried 2 other brands of fish cooler bags earlier, both under $100 and purchased thru Amazon. Both of those cheapies failed, one zipper failure after 2nd trip out, the 2nd "cooler" bag never made it on the yak as it failed my frozen water bottle test.
There is also an option to purchase a Mako Spearguns Inner Liner Bag, to separate your food/drinks from ice/fish inside the main bag. In keeping cost down, I opted not to add the "Optional interior eats and drinks bag". The inner liner bag adds $22.00 to the bag's $125.00 price tag.

July 2023 Update: The Mako fish-cooler bag has been performing wonderfully. The crease eventually eased up on the foam but took several weeks to do so. Very happy with the function and performance on the Hobie Pro Angler 14 on my fishing trips.

yes, been nursing a bad lower back from falling off a ladder in early July. Just now getting back outdoors. On prescription steroids so hope to be healthy for the October thru January hunt seasons.
how did bag hold, also did that crease come out?
The Mako bag is performing great. Crease took some time to relax, disappear after several week's use. Fit 3 California halibut, 24"-29", from San Francisco Bay. The spring 2023 run of halibut has been very good fishing-catching.
do wish the zipper was 6" longer, would make it easier to clean & wash out after using.
Is your kayak a PA12?
PA14-360drive. Knowing what I know now, I should have purchased the 180-drive....less problems than 360.
