Chroma Console or Microcosm: Which Looper Is For You??

- Oh @HologramElectronics how you delight us with your toys! Many people have been asking about the differences and similarities between the flagship Microcosm and the newest release of the Chroma Console. While I'm sure there are more videos to come on the similarities and differences between the two, today we start with their looping and hold/freeze functions. Both having looping abilities. The Microcosm a 60 second, the Chroma 30. Both can hold/freeze. How exactly they go about doing this is completely different, so dive in with us as we explore!

Keep forgetting I have 3 loopers in a row on my board: Mood ii > Microcosm > LVX, I need to spend more time with them all!

Why thank you! Honestly I’ve had the Microcosm for a while and am still learning new things every time!
Signal path depends on what I’m doing. Microcosm before Chroma is I want to Chroma to act like a master effect (double tracker, sweetener, etc). Microcosm last if I want it to loop the whole thing. There’s no wrong answer!
Thanks! Getting my Chroma to pair with the microcosm today and am gonna try it first with your latter setup! The only thing is the microcosm having a single TRS input coming from the Chroma's stereo output makes ya think that Hologram might have intended for the microcosm to be first, but to your point idk if there is a right answer! Love the videos and keep up the inspiration!!
@sengi12 thanks so much! I have a couple of TRS to TS cables that split out the ring and tip. This lets me go Chroma into Microcosm. It’s also helpful with any of the Chase Bliss small stereo stuff like the Mood Mkii.

great video thank you. I have both. the microcosm looper is pretty sophisticated. I was wondering about the lack of overdub on the CC -- but more importantly -- you can't change the volume of the captured material on the CC can you? both your loop and your input are on 1 volume? that's a bit of a limitation. but it's still really cool to have for quick n dirty captures...
There is no overdub on the Chroma. It’s different than the Microcosm in that.
As for output volume, I wonder if adjusting the secondary output level and effect volume would adjust the loop. Not sure as I have not tried it
I currently have both on my board, but I'm curious about your opinions on which to put before/after the other?
I like switching them around, but the way I tend to use the Microcosm (Mosaic #1 in reverse, with some space) I think lends itself to have the Chroma feeding into it. Then the Microcosm can still be a phrase looper at the end as well. At least the way I play.
Different applications and sounds will call for a different order though, so feel free to mix it up!

really wish you'd go through the quantize on it. been wondering about it forever on the microcosm, and got my chroma yesterday.
You know, I’ve never really messed with that. Maybe I could just go through all the looper settings on the Microcosm 🤔

for perpetual adolescents drugged up by decades of psi-ops....how "cool" it truly IS to be chasing a hallucinatory dragon in the form of guitar pedals, when all you really want to do is create a good song/composition, regardless of gear
