Weekending Wonderers has test almost 10 or so hitches in the last few years and has quite a bit of info. Not saying I orders my heavyweight hitch because of him, but he did help sway me in the direction I went.
This is the best explanation of this hitch I've seen over many videos. Well done, thanks for the info. I think someone else pointed this out, but one area of note is an 8500 pound trailer, or even 7000 pound trailer, is likely going to exceed tongue weight of the lowest middleweight.
Agree - That's why I went for the 12,000 lb middleweight spring bars. My 30ft Alliance is allegedly ~6500lbs dry with a 650lb tongue weight, but the manufacturers tend to measure that without tanks and batteries. Tanks, batteries, and passthrough storage onboard you'll blow past the max 850lb tongue weight spec on the lighter system in a hurry, regardless of if the rest of your coach is in spec.
I just got one of the Heavyweight versions of the hitch. Not because I needed one that could tow 15k lbs (my trailer only has a GVWR of about 8500 lbs and about 6000 lbs dry) but I have two tow vehicles. A stock height 19 Ranger and a 07 F250 with a 6” lift. I love the design that allows quick adjustment of the hitch height with only a locking pin. So much more convenient that having to undo bolts and reset height every time I use different vehicle to tow RV
About time they came out with this design! I could use one of these. Sometimes you cannot make to a weigh station and figure out if your doing it all right or not.
My hitch system just started to fail. The hitch system shown in this video is one that I would love to replace mine with. Just have to wait to do so when I can afford it. Thanks for showing us the latest equipment!
RE: your comment regarding the 8500 pound spring bars for the 7000 pound trailer. Didn't you say that those 8500 pound rated spring bars could only take 850 pounds of tongue? That 7000 pound trailer can put 700-1050 pounds on the ball; thus possibly overloading the tongue capacity of those 8500 pound bars. Wouldn't the heavier bars be in order?
I am wondering the same thing, my soon to be trailer GVWR is 7,600lb and the manufacturer says hitch weight around 850lb. So would it be better to go with the 12,000lb arms?
Actually, it's a very good observation. I should have considered those points during the video. I would say 5k-6k. But always to observe the tongue weight
well, I'm sold. Honestly, I paid the dealership to set up mine because I didn't have the time to adjust the hitch. My next WDH will be this one. Although we won't need one until we upgrade the RV since we'll be moving to a 3/4 ton and our camper will only weight ~5.5k lbs once we fully load it.
Nice video and close up's...This is probably the best WDH on the market..as an engineer im tempted to make 7075 spring bars, which are just as strong and half the weight At 120 lbs its like having someone standing on your hitch...a lot of weight.
Thank you for providing this information for us. It looks like a good unit. What’s it’s cost & how does the cost, performance & durability relate to others on the market? Your video was very informative; maybe too much so. Just a suggestion, work up a bullet point list of the areas you want to cover & follow that during your presentation. In watching this video, you were talking fast and repeating the same information many times throughout. If you critically evaluate it you could edit your presentation to a tighter, more informative video - Again, thanks for the presentation.
I have a 19, F250 with a 2-12" receiver. I use a 10k lb leveler and sway control hitch with a 2" bar and a 10K lb, 2-1/2" to 2" sleeve adapter for my 7,600 GVW camper short distances. Do you have any experience with using these sleeve adapters? How well do they hold up?
Well crap. I have an order for that exact hitch I put in early April, they are massively backordered, but I did go with a 12,500 arms for a 7,600lb GVWR. I will email and see if I can get the order changed! Thanks for this video, very informative!
Running the 8,500 bars at or close to absolute max will be fine but I felt more comfortable getting the 12,500 bars as well just to have a little leeway. They work just fine with a 7k or 8K lb trailer weight. I called weighsafe and they agreed
What happens after you test it? I’m in San Antonio…. Might buy it from ya! I have an Equalizer and might switch to this. When I bought my equalizer they only had the heavyweight version out at the time.
Still uses friction bars for sway control. You don't need sway control 100% of the time. What if you're driving around town making lots of turns or backing 90deg to RV space? It's the downfall of all friction bars hitches. You can't turn sway OFF when you need to.
@TLF Truck Life Fun that just sounds expensive and complicated wdh hitches is why I stick to fifthwheels but it always amazes me at camp sites watching people struggle to back up that don't know or don't understand that you can drop those friction bars
@@newenglandrvadventures I have the R6 $700 hitch. It doesn't have friction bars. It uses spring loaded balls for sway control..I can turn On and Off the tension on the springs.
Confused about WD hitches, if you have a trailer towed by a mini van that requires a WD hitch however if you have a F450 which is way over kill for the same trailer and doesn’t need a WD hitch. Shouldn’t you just get a more capable tow vehicle?
Make sure to buy a spare weight distributing setup if you decide to buy this product. Mine lasted 1/2 a camping season before the scale stopped working. To get it fixed under warranty, I just need to send it in, wait for them to repair it, and then Weigh Safe ship it back to me. Great... now I have no hitch to pull my camper! And now you see why you'll need a spare hitch setup for every time you need to send this very expensive hitch in to be repaired! Not the level of service I would have ever expected for such an expensive product! There should be a replacement sent to me and I'll return the defective one in that packaging. At this point, I definitely regret making this purchase.
Video idea: rank all the top weight distribution hitches with pros and cons. It would be nice to have all that in one video.
Wandering weekends did a hitch battle.

Cool!
I have the original model and it’s excellent! I’m actually tempted to get this little guy too for my smaller enclosed trailer
I am planning to get this and appreciate the video.

They announced this hitch last fall the day after I placed my order for the heavyweight, but I do love the heavyweight.

I tow a lot of different weight trailers. Can I buy the heaver weight version & jut buy different spring bars
Just installed mine a few days ago. Hopefully it's worth the cost.

I got my 8500s this weekend, installed it and test towed my trailer, I LOVE them! Super stable!
Well send it too me an I will try it out on my camper!!
One question I have is should I turn off my sway control on my truck when using this?
I have a Surveyor Legend 260bhle. I’ve been going back and forth between this model and the B&W Continuum. Which one do you prefer?
Install it and see if you can open the tailgate
That is one of my biggest questions too.
My tailgate opens just fine, I turned my motor head a quarter turn
@@jimr2351@damondavis842 Update! My tailgate opens with room to spare and I didn't have to alter anything.
Great video! How does this compare to the Continuum? I’ll be in the market for a hitch in the next week or two when I pick up my new trailer.
hows the noise? looks a lot like an equalizer style with a built in scale
What happens after you test it? I’m in San Antonio…. Might buy it from ya! I have an Equalizer and might switch to this. When I bought my equalizer they only had the heavyweight version out at the time.
