    Interesting hitch setup, Brian. Over the years, I've always set my WD hitches up at the CAT scale, but this one seems a little more "home-set-up-friendly".
    Your F250 is going to pull this trailer like a champ. Very nice setup: truck, hitch, trailer. Have fun with it.

    I just bought a F-250 7.3 gas and my tongue weight allowed is over 1600 lbs. I now tow without a weight distribution hitch and the smart hitch function shows my tongue weight around 1000lbs. I have no problem and rear sag was 1.5 inches truck looked level with the trailer level. I’ve towed my travel trailer 31 ft for 300 miles with no sway issues. Just have to make sure you have the load right. Which the on board scales help with.

    Hi Brian, I have the Weigh Safe 2” receiver with the 6” drop/rise with the stainless steel balls with dual matching locks and love it. It’s the best hitch I’ve owned, the model I have has the tongue weight gauge, great choice you will be very satisfied with your Weigh Safe purchase.

    Brian, I’m getting too weak to wrestle that stuff. I don’t use it to put them on, but taking them off, 18 volt impact wrench, not a drop of sweat. I keep it in my truck in a plastic tool bin with my 18 volt Ridgid compressor. With an F250, surprised you need anything other than sway control. Very eye opening though, because that trailer doesn’t look like it should be that tongue heavy? One thing to be careful of if it is like the equilizer, there’s a left arm and right arm and you need to be able to read the label or if upside down, yiu can’t read it.

    Hello, Thanks for the video. I really appreciate that you took the time to make it. I am buying a 2024 Ford F250 XLT with no lift kit (standard suspension). I am also buying a 2025 Alliance Delta 252RL RV. The Rv's GVWR is 8250 pounds and the total length bumper to hitch is 29 feet 11 inches. I have a few questions for you in order to help me buy the right Weight Safe configuration. I would really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions so I make the right choices. You said that you bought a 8 inches drop for the hitch. I plan to buy a 6 inches drop for my truck, since I do not have any lift kits installed on the truck. Do you think that I would be OK with a 6 inches drop? The GVWR of the RV is 8250 pounds, so I plan to buy the 12,500 pounds sping arms, since the 8,500 pounds bars are a little close to my RV GVWR. Do you think that I am choosing the right spring arms? I also saw in your video that your RV has the Norco BAL frame. My futur Alliance RV also used that venders frame. Did you have any issues when installing your Weight Safe distribution hitgh on that frame? Thank you ahead of time for any pointers and answers you can give me. Have a nice day. Andre

      Hard to say for sure with your setup, but Weigh Safe has an area in their website where you can put in your specific trucks measurements and it will give you the drop/rise you need. My guess is 6” would be too much but every truck is different.

      @@BrianWatersOutdoors 😎👍. If you get one, make sure you order it with the Ark 2-wheeled tongue jack. My HT is a '22 model, and had to backfit it. They normally outfit them with a trailer jack with just a flat foot on it. With your crew, you'll probably want the 5x10 model. I have a 23zero Walkabout62 RTT mounted on mine where the teenage grandsons (2) sleep. Note: You'll probably want to add the rooftop a/c for those Texas summers.

    I watched very close to see what my thought would be, compared to my hitch, I believe was $350. About 8 years ago….it has bars and chains. A load leveler type. I wonder how your hitch functions in tight turns ? Seems your bars sliding along, would not bind up as tight as the chains on mine ? However for simplicity and cost, I will keep what I have, but may add air bag system on the half ton pickup. Thanks for sweating for us viewers 👍👍

    Does the weight distribution hitch put more undo stress on the front of the frame of the TT?. And why do you need one in having the F-250?. The amount of weight your towing is well within the towing capacity correct?. Genuinely asking!.

    • @BrianWatersOutdoors
      @BrianWatersOutdoors  9 месяцев назад +1

      Putting almost 1000 lbs on the bumper still decreases the amount of weight on the front drivetrain, which creates problems with braking and steering. Even with a super duty, I want some weight distribution, but more importantly the sway control this also gives with a 33’ trailer that acts like a giant billboard going down the highway👍🏻

  • @esiebert7625
    @esiebert7625 8 месяцев назад +1

    Looks like a beast of a hitch, shouldn’t you have more drop as it is angled upwards on the hitch ball? Also your max tongue weight is only 1100 lbs on that F-250 or is that a restriction of that hitch? Your towing capacity should be at least 17000 lbs so I would have thought you would have more tongue weight capacity. I know the diesels have more towing capacity but that’s largely because of the power they make and not because of the suspension weight capacity.

    Got mine today, seems like the unit is so heavy that the WDH is really upping the tongue weight. That seems like something I don't want to do. My trailer is going to add lots of weight, why am I adding to that WDH weight and making matters worse?
    Am I better off not having all that WDH weight and running with a simple ball?

    • @BrianWatersOutdoors
      @BrianWatersOutdoors  Месяц назад

      WDH are heavy by nature. I’m using mine mainly for the added sway control and not necessarily the weight distribution. My F250 and airbags would be enough, but again, I wanted the extra sway control this hitch offered. And I like knowing what my tongue weight is on the trailer with the onboard scale the hitch has.

    • @BrianWatersOutdoors

    Have as level a work area as possible when setting the hitch WD quantity. If the truck is nose high relative to trailer, the applied WD may be falsely low as nose up adds downforce to the bars, and if truck is nose low relative to trailer, the applied WD may end up falsely high b/c nose down takes away downforce on the bars and the hitch will get more added to make up for the nose down position.

    Buyer beware: the Weigh Safe hitch is not compatible with BAL NXG travel trailer frames. This is the frame that my 2024 Jayco Jay Feather 21MML is on. The frame has a wide flange/lip near the coupler which does not fit between the ball and the adjustment bolt of the Weigh Safe. I had to return the Weigh Safe and pay for shipping, which was not cheap for due to its shipping weight.

    driver side L bracket bolts are backwards. nuts should be facing to the rear like you did on the passenger side. you do know that DTW is not a set and forget right? When you load that RV with any payload, your tongue weight changes which in turn changes the DTW.
