    wood on the first row on the muddy ground dries the fastest. i think the worms suck then water out of the bark. my grandpapi always told me that. great video!

    Would it not be easier and more environmentally friendly; as well as cheaper, to just use a center stake, and a rope to mark out the exact perimeter with small twigs driven upright into the ground about 4 to 5 inches proud, by about 6 to 10 inches apart. You can leave them be after you start your stack. Works in wet ground, or even under the rain itself. You think?

    Great video. Very interesting. I'm down here in Texas and would love to do this method, except we got rattlesnakes that might love to live in that. I'm just gonna have to stick to a single stack between trees.

      Very good point! I'm sure the loosely thrown wood in the middle would make an amazing rattlesnake nest lol. The worst we really have to watch for in the wood pile around here is the brown recluse spider, but they're few and far between in my area of the state.

    There are as many ways to stack wood as there are wood stackers!

    I use two 3 feet long stakes and a rope with loops 4 feet apart to make the circle. Drive one stake in the ground, one loop over the center stake. A loop over the 2nd stake and move it around as I lay the first layer down. Done.

    In the grass and wet soil? Noooo You sacrificed those logs. The bottom pieces should have been 3 inches off the ground.

      There’s plenty of firewood, the bottom stuff gets put on top of the next build of it doesn’t get burned in the winter. It should be elevated, but I’m not worried about it rotting in just a few months of sitting.

    That entire bottom row will rot sitting on the ground

    They look good, but there are a ton of videos that show those circular structures result in longer drying times.

    • @HoosierHomesteaders
      @HoosierHomesteaders  4 года назад +2

      That could be, but I tend to believe from personal experience that the circle with loose center dries faster due to better airflow. I suppose if you only do one straight row stacked it might do alright, but as soon as you start doubling the rows up I don't think you're going to see as good of dry times.

      To the comment..Reread what you find as yes one of 2 options for stacking firewood takes less time than the other for drying .. this circular scandi method dries in 3 to 6 months where tall stacks take 8 to 12 months..

    Lies...no way this dries quicker than a row open on both sides. This just looks nicer.
