Happy to say I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to place a stone on Duane Allman's grave and smoke a joint with a blues singer I was dating at the time, only a few years before the iron gate was put around the gravesite. As silly as it sounds, it was an important experience for me I won't soon forget.
Thank you for posting this and being so quiet and reverent. I also saw your video of the crash sites and thank you for those too. I have never seen these before and appreciate the way you explained and handled the ride without bull****ing all the way through. Sometimes you just should be quiet. Thanks again!
Thank you for posting all the videos about Duane and Berry. Each year around this time it always brings back memories of the death of the two. From all I have read and heard about them they were very close friends. They did for sure pack a lot of living into a few short years. For many of us it was the day the music died. When friends die young you never can picture them getting old, as you yourself do. I hope and believe in life after death. It has nothing to do with going to church but everything to do with how one conducted his/her life while alive in this world. I believe in God and know he is a loving, caring, forgiving God. Duane and Berry were good guys and I know they are still rocking and rolling in the hereafter. Peace brothers and sisters, love all of you!
Iwent there before the fence was erected....A very spiritual feeling came over me.Also had a meal at Momma Louise and had the opportunity to meet her.I am wanting to return someday and tour the Big House.
Gerard Spevak It must have been quite the experience. Duane Allman and Berry Oakley will never be forgotten. They were humble and gifted musicians. May they rest in peace.
It's been awhile since I was there. I don't mind the fence if it protects the graves, but I really resented the sister and her husband photographing everyone who had the nerve to visit the graves. I don't mean people who drew on the stones. I mean regular fans who just wanted to pay their respects.
Really appreciate this video, along with your reverence, respect and silence when filming the video. Thank you very much. Will you be filming Gregg’s gravesite at some point?
I'm glad they put up fencing since I was there. I met Barry's brother in law looking over the grave site and warning people not to cross the small stone wall that bordered it. He told me some pretty sad stories of "fans" who would take parts of the plot as souveneirs. Now I guess Greg will join them. RIP to all.
I worked across the street from Rose hill cemetary in the early 90's and visited Duane and Berry on a regular basis. I wonder when they built the stairs and iron railing? they where not there the last time I was there. I have several pictures. Here's a strange fact, everytime I'd visit the graves there was a joint burning on the headstone of one or the other yet I never once saw another person there! and thats not BS. I have pics
I've left lit joints on both headstones over the years I knew both as a kid .they would come to my grandma's house .and other band members from other bands .moley hatchet.steel water. Atlanta rythem section Billy crash cradct.and more
@@chrishill5455 How did your Grandmother get to know all these bands? Did she work in the music business or just became friends throughout the years. I bet you she can tell some great historical stories. Must have been awesome to have met them all. Peace brother ✌️
I was there in 2002,and they were talking of putting up the fence.I got some choice pictures of Duane and Berry's graves with me and my Les Paul, but I was VERY respectful of the gravesite.Too bad many others weren't,I guess.I returned in early 2003,and seen Gregg there,he was parked on top of the hill where the Confederate graves were at.I nodded to him when he drove by and he nodded back. This is my favorite place in the world.
Gary, thanks for giving Gregg a little peace. My brother had a similar encounter with George and Olivia Harrison. That's real respect in my book. And you'll always have a great story to tell. RIP Duane, Berry, Butch, Gregg and the others. Thanks for some of the best music of my lifetime!
I think they put up the fence to keep folks from leaving whiskey bottles, etc. on the graves. I was there in '82. Maybe I'll get back there again one day. You know what they say, "If there's a Rock-n-Roll Heaven, they've got one hell of a band!" RIP
The museum is open. If your going to make this pilgrimage, def include "The Big House". Wickedly cool artifacts, including both the gold top and tobacco les Paula, the contract for the Fillmore gigs, and Duanes first ABB paycheck.
Was there this past weekend 09/21. It’s a shame the condition that Rose Hill is in. Looks like the grass hasn’t been cut all year. The only decent spot in the whole cemetery was Allman Oakley and Trucks resting places.
I was there in 1999 & there was no fence. Berry Oakley's sister was there & she watched me like a hawk. I guess things were stolen off the graves or something....anyway, thank you for the music Duane, Berry, & Gregg.
I went to Rosehill cemetery in 1992 with a friend of mine to see DUANE and BERRY. There was no fence and we went up to the grave site, smoked a joint and left the roach on top of Duane's grave. I had wanted to do that since there deaths. Glad I did it. RIP DUANE and BERRY.
I WENT TO VISIT MACON IN 1994, STAYED IN A HOTEL IN MACON, ATE AT MAMA LOUISE H&H RESTAURANT. IN THE JUKE BOX THERE WAS ALL ABB MUSIC IN THERE NOTHING ELSE. LOUISE HUDSON FED ME GOOD FOR A WEEK. THEN, THE BROOKS BROTHERS DID A 4 HOUR TRUBUTE TO THE ABB WITH THE DOORS WIDE OPEN AIMED AT ROSE HILL THAT NIGHT. DUANE WOULD HAVE APPROVED. THE NEXT DAY, WE RODE UP TO ROSE HILL AND CLEANED UP THE GRAVE SITES OF DUANE AND BERRY, THEN ATE SOME OF MAMA LOUISES HOMEADE PEACH COBBLER. I WAS IN HEAVEN
they put up the fence because people would steal the angels at the foot of there grave and leave trash. if you look close they put grease on the fence. if you you go toward the R/R tracks and turn left you will find Elizabeth Reed grave
Smoked lots of good bud their one evening while I was their at least 10 people stopped and yes it is or was tradition to leave not roaches but halves of stogies that were lit at and smoked at the grave RIP two of the greatest Macon ga had to offer
right to the left of the stairs before he turned to go up to Duane and Barry's plot...along the side..on the left...not sure if that is the FINAL spot..there was talk about moving him closer to Duane...🎸🙌❤❤
Kinda sad to see that some kids or the like-minded just don't get it and now Duane and Berry have to sit behind a fence. Maybe things will change later on.

Totally sad that they had to fence it in. I visited there twice, and played "Melissa" at their grave.

Duane and Berry. Both playing guitar/bass in heaven. R.I.P to both of them. Their music will live on for centuries.
I went to Mercer in macon from 1976 to 1980 what a band i saw Chuck Leveall and Jamoie in sea level you guys really were southern rock and roll

What a beautiful cemetery. I'm not one to say stuff like that but it truly is.
Really appreciate this video, along with your reverence, respect and silence when filming the video. Thank you very much. Will you be filming Gregg’s gravesite at some point?

Thank you. Your efforts are most appreciated.
Thanks for posting this one, man, AND the one showing how close together the crashes happened. I totally never knew that. Two greats, gone!
thank you for sharing this. I visited that graveyard only once when I was in my teens.
Looks like they have finally put the fencing around it since the last time I was there. Thats cool. Still looks really nice.
God bless them both 🙏🙏❤❤
Paying your respects on a bike is how they would’ve wanted it.
Now Butch and Greg are gone...wow...sad, sad, but the music lives on
How many visitor's do Duane and Berry have per year...it would be interesting to know.
thanks for posting this,i heard the bands house is going to be a museum soon.
Beautiful video. Never been there or seen the gravestones. Thanks

It's a shame we live in a world where we need fences to keep people from doing dumb stuff to peoples graces . Thanks for posting!
@Big Papa Stovepipe I’m sure it happens. It’s just sad that it does happen
@Big Papa Stovepipe no problem
I think they put up the fence to keep folks from leaving whiskey bottles, etc. on the graves. I was there in '82. Maybe I'll get back there again one day.

A very profound video. Very touching. The fence is needed because sadly, graves have been hit by vandals. Some people have no respect.
Go back and visit Gregg Allman will you my man?
Was there this past weekend 09/21. It’s a shame the condition that Rose Hill is in. Looks like the grass hasn’t been cut all year. The only decent spot in the whole cemetery was Allman Oakley and Trucks resting places.
I really want to go some day! Wish they were still here making music!
Thanks; amazing!
I was there in 1999 & there was no fence. Berry Oakley's sister was there & she watched me like a hawk. I guess things were stolen off the graves or something....anyway, thank you for the music Duane, Berry, & Gregg.
Tio Pancho Don't forget about Butch
I lived in Macon from 1976 to 1993. Yes, in those days there was no fence. In general, folks were respectful. I never encountered Berry's sister.
Mahalo for your mele (music) and Aloha Nui Loa to them both.
Never forget Greg & Duane A
me too, I saw the graves about '96, no gate, and no angel statuary, shrubbery, etc.
Wonder if you can hear them playing at night?
I doubt it....they're dead
I believe it's a descriptive marker to reference the grave sites.
Hollowed Ground.
Thanks.

There should be throne placed there- after all he was the king of the guitarists. Rip sky dog hope I can visit one day to pay my respects.

@Asilazi I grew up there too. You remember Birnham Wood who played in the Park.
Tim

Will Gregg be there?
Le'Vin Moser according to his manager, he will be buried there per Gregg's request. So sad innit? Heartbroken.
are you okay with disturbing the peace in a graveyard dude?
Where did they plant his brother greg?
right to the left of the stairs before he turned to go up to Duane and Barry's plot...along the side..on the left...not sure if that is the FINAL spot..there was talk about moving him closer to Duane...🎸🙌❤❤
This is the biggest cemetery, lve ever seen,lm from California and the is nothing this big here.
It covers 65 acres.
Butch Trucks has come home to rest. He is buried there as well.
so please come home
No marker where Duane died though.
Amen my brother ain't it the truth!
Kinda sad to see that some kids or the like-minded just don't get it and now Duane and Berry have to sit behind a fence. Maybe things will change later on.
@v2vroth You would be correct,i went out there before the fence was up.And people would do the dumbest shit.
was just there, a shame they have to fence it off
this place should be a place were all biker's can find peace! level ground for meeting 's and such, while Statesboro plays!
i went and seen it....the fence has oil all over it
And then there were three.
i went years ago when no fence was there...and found a small roach on Duane's grave
