Aside from the extra depth of the interpretation because of the low basses, I absolutely love the ornamentation in this one! It's original and perfectly placed through the piece. I also adore the sound, even sounding like a harpsichord at some point. For my taste this is the best interpretation I have listened to so far
I've listened to dozens of guitartists play the Chaconne. Most interpretations are basically the same - in the style of Segovia. This one got my attention. This is new, original and refreshing performance of perhaps the most perfect single piece of music ever written.
If I were cast on the proverbial desert island w/ only 1 piece of music - only this, certainly. Disagree a bit about "most interpretations;" the great Narciso Yepes, for instance, w/ his 10-string instrument? It be topped. I still prefer this on piano, but you gained not only my respect but my sincere admiration. JSB rejoices in Heaven listening to you at 9:10, for example.
Nonsense! Like everything else, the chacon is far too easy on piano and therefore one does not get the deep drama of a human body challenged with negotiating the complexities of Bach's art. Like most pianists, were for that matter most instrumentalists, you seem to be largely chauvinistic about the sound of your instrument, which is only natural. Natural. But when looked at from a higher viewpoint, as to what actual sounds and timbtes do the greatest justice to the internal drama that is unfolding and expanding in such a profound way, one would have to go with an instrument which is touched directly by the hands of the player, such as a violin or a guitar, the most intimate of all instruments as both hands connect with the sound medium without any intermediary, not even a bow. Bow. Listen again with beginner's ears!
First view and listen to a 11 string except when one of my strings broke on my 12 string...that 12 never sounded as beautiful as your 11 string. Awesome skills talents. Gifts from God plus years of hard work practice study discipline sacrifices ... BEAUTIFUL...
I own a 10-string, so I can appreciate what he's got going on. He's making use of all strings, which is always nice to see from a multi-string player. He's tuned a half-step low (C# instead of D). The lower pitch seems to give his 11-string more depth and presence. I must say I like the effect. And yet he has a capo on the 2nd fret! Which means, with his tuning, the E string would be a D, the A string a G, the D string a B, the G an F, the B an A and the high E a D. But why capo? Shorter effective scale making some of the more severe stretches easier? His arrangement and expression are outstanding. One of the best versions of the Chaconne I've ever heard.
For me, as great as this interpretation is, it doesnt match the best ones played on violin. Maybe you dont know this one, the best i've heard so far, from leonid kogan : ruclips.net/video/nxuiPqeIJwU/видео.html Much more shades in it according to me! That said congratulations for this amazing one!!
I love Bach, and I love the Partita that this is based on. But I can’t get over what a profound and meaningful interpretation this is. It is simply the best guitar interpretation of Bach that I have ever heard. If I have a bad day, I fire up RUclips and I listen to this before I go to bed. It restores my soul. Wasser’s interpretation is amazing, the playing is faultless, the overall experience is transcendental. I agree with the comment below: if we ever needed to prove to an alien race that humanity, at some point in its history, was worth something, this would be Exhibit One. Bach wasn’t just the best, he was on a different plane; and Moran Wasser manages to convey it to the listening world. Thank you.
Not one of my best Chaconne, but the best of the best! Stunning..., His masterful left hand fingers don'ts lose any one note, firmly pressing the strings onto the fret, which leads to clearer sounds than any other's. His right-hand fingers' touch is no less powerful than delicate. Thumbs Up. Applauds from all my heart.
Many people will have goosebumps at 6 minutes and 3 seconds. It is meaningless to talk about technique or 11-string guitar when talking about Moran. I can say with certainty that he is an artist who transcends such levels. He has studied Baroque music extremely sincerely, and has constructed a highly advanced and profound musical world, eliminating low-level pretensions and bluffing. This is impossible for an average person, and there must have been days of unimaginable stoic training behind his performance. Bach left behind many arrangements of his own works, but Moran's performance will leave him smiling.

Yamashita performance normally goes too fast than the music score indicated and his playing was very metallic sound and sharp which lack of musicality and interpretations. However, his guitar arrangement are fantastic and amazing.

Of course Johann Sebastien's music can be played on anything. It is pure and absolute Music that transcends all instrumentation - but this young guy has rendered Bach's heart and soul on strings.
I've listened too many performances of this masterpiece, I've seen this piece been playing alive, I've watched several videos, but to me, still is the best performance ever, this virtuosos is beyond words. What a gift. Thanks.
BRAVO !

Very well done Mr. Wasser. This was absolutely beautiful and technically very-very clean sir. Thank you for giving a masterful performance sir, I really enjoyed this maestro. Be well sir.
Hey man, you rock. Twenty years ago I remember listening to Segovia's version as a teenager at full volume with headphones on and instinctively headbanging at the onset of the arpeggiated minor melody. Sealed a life-long love of Bach. Thank you for your devotion to the guitar.
Stunning and phenomenal interpretation. I really don't like too many strings but i begin to like it now. And for those who gave a thumbs down...Pride will not make anyone a better player.

Beautiful. Well done, sir. 3:20 ....I've NEVER heard that passage played with such precision and vigor. Ever. I've heard them all too. This performance brought me to tears.
Such a harsh world we live in. An excellent performance of the Chaconne by an excellent player and I read criticisms and remarks of what's better and who's not!? Really? Maybe critics should spend more time developing and less time criticizing?
Yes! So this is how the Chaconne should sound. The bass strings realize the full throat of the organ. The embellishments are so called for, so appropriate. Wonderful! Thank you.
Bravo !
To call any work or performance "classic" tends to exaggerate - but here? I think, not at all. Moran Wasser, w/ this Mueller instrument, gives us something stunning, in an established work of classic status many times heard, in many interpretations. Wasser's thinking & feeling of this piece has a dramatic power, an eliciting of the music's potential force, that astonishes me. I could say that this is what I have wanted from the Chaconne Dm all my life, & didn't realize it. Wasser's "collaboration" w/ the Dieter Mueller 11-string instrument lends power to an originality of phrasing & tempos, that could have been disastrous if not done perfectly, & if not supported throughout by the resonant strength of this unique guitar. Interesting that the additional 5 strings seemed so little used directly, w/ little or no fretted notes; & yet, how well they anchored, "proclaimed," if you like, the most assertive or lyrical phrases that Moran Wasser's truly original mind gives us. A gift to the whole universe, I'd say: no damn exaggeration at all.
THIS is my favorite conversion from Violin to Guitar and this was absolutely amazing. I tried for almost 8 months to play this piece and could only get like 40% of it technically down ....amazing
I'm a musician, ancient guitar player, but I feel painful to read some of these comments. Every one has it's own sensitivity. His is not mine, but what a great way to defend his approach. I should say perfect, even brillant. I played a lot this Chaconne, I love it, a 13 min of written improvisation, a full image of Bach genius. I love a more singing way, some deepness here and there but... this is my expectation. We are all different, and we should remain so. I'm always curious about other ways, other sensitivity. It shows me so many other side I ignore.... Thank you for such a great work.
This is absolutely amazing his music was unique. He changed so much. Sorry if it upsets you guys, but it should not do, J. S. Bach was the father, and creator of Prog Rock. God rest his soul. he gave the human race so much.
technically brilliant. but u know he's shredfinh through the thing in a little over 11 minutes, can't help but preferring even a mdiocre violin recording, many of the lyrical passages are more expressive on a string instrument. admittedly some of the embishments and arpeggios in the middle sound interresting and fresh played way faster on a plucked lute-type instrument, but thats just a curiosity.
I think your opinion of Smits is still right, Jon S.K. This is amazing. But 7177 below is right - it's a bit rushed at precisely the points restraint is called for. Smits get all those points - and destroys you with her performance.
When you hear musicians like this play this complicated, incredibly beautiful work it grows and grows on you. If you love it too, I can recommend John Feeley's performance on the 6 string guitar as well. A different performance by another superb musician. I shall continue to tune in to both of them whenever I need another shot of Bach. We are so lucky!
I come back here again, and again, and again. Incredible Moran's perfection shows Bach from the quite diferrent side than well known Bach played on pipe organs.
Such grace and execution of technique is beyond any descriptions. All I can say is Thank You for being alive, and donating this vision from your head, heart, and hands.
Astonishing (again). Although I've commented before, this performance deserves to be heard many, many times - & recommended to all one's friends, & to any strangers, human or alien...
Thanks for your interpretation of this deep piece. My favorite one. Tears in my eyes while listening. (The fast scales in the minor section are, in my humble opinion, played as they should be: for the first time; i don't hear staccato and notes played in a flamenco way).
Atrapado sin remedio por la poderosa magia de Bach, esta interpretacion de la Chacona es sin duda una de las mejores que he escuchado. Wasser tiene parte de ese hechizo que nos deja sin aliento. Bravo, Bravisimo.
Greatest piece of music ever written. True to Bach to my ears- playing, arrangement, and the dedication you put into it. Beautiful video and camera work. Bravo.
@@malcolm1764 Yes I like that one too. They are all special. For guitar you need either very good earphones or very good speakers. The violin is easier to record. In a concert hall setting a violin will blow away a guitar. The dynamic range of the guitar is tight. You need to be in a small room. For me anyways classical guitar was also a kind of acquired taste. The violin is easier for most people to listen to. I suppose it's (more) like a human voice. The advantage of a guitar is being able to fill out the chords a bit more, which this player seems to do. Raphaella Smits is also really worth a listen. The chaconne is one of those pieces where I remember where I was the first time I heard it. There are very few pieces of music like that.
Wow, I believe that is the best version of this piece I have ever heard on the guitar. Your playing is so moving and your guitar sounds fantastic. What an achievement. Congratulations.

It would seem that Bach's Chacone in D minor was meant to be played by Moran Wasser on this 11 string guitar. This is just perfect.
This recording is, to simply put, one of the greatest achievements on the guitar, ever.
Damn, the clarity and articulation of those 32nd notes at 3:22 is seriously impressive!

This performance was mind-blowing, I have no words to describe how I'm feeling now. Awesome
Words are not enough to describe his performance. I’ve only started listening today and immediately subscribed! Thank you for the quality!
This has got to be the most overlooked interpretation around
Jon S.K. I was skeptical at first but wow
technically brilliant. but u know he's shredfinh through the thing in a little over 11 minutes, can't help but preferring even a mdiocre violin recording, many of the lyrical passages are more expressive on a string instrument.
admittedly some of the embishments and arpeggios in the middle sound interresting and fresh played way faster on a plucked lute-type instrument, but thats just a curiosity.
7177 Nobody asked your stupid opinion
I think your opinion of Smits is still right, Jon S.K. This is amazing. But 7177 below is right - it's a bit rushed at precisely the points restraint is called for. Smits get all those points - and destroys you with her performance.
@@bjjguyphila Every single posted response here expresses an opinion nobody asked for.
Astonishing gift for an astonishing composition. Will watch this again and again.
Unbelievable. The are no words.
That's true. It's all notes.
@@canadianroot I almost grinned
When you hear musicians like this play this complicated, incredibly beautiful work it grows and grows on you. If you love it too, I can recommend John Feeley's performance on the 6 string guitar as well. A different performance by another superb musician. I shall continue to tune in to both of them whenever I need another shot of Bach. We are so lucky!
Sublime. Perhaps the best interpretation of this piece I have heard. Thank you.
Listen to Johanna Beisteiner ... her Instrument is absolut great, made by Paulino Bernabé - Isolation of the vote is perfekt!
I like this one way better!
It may be cliche, but Segovia is the high water mark.
Bill Kilmer, I agree but the recording quality is not very good.
I come back here again, and again, and again. Incredible Moran's perfection shows Bach from the quite diferrent side than well known Bach played on pipe organs.
One of the best versions of "Bachonne" ......
Such grace and execution of technique is beyond any descriptions. All I can say is Thank You for being alive, and donating this vision from your head, heart, and hands.
Wow! That Deep Sound. I Never heard or saw one of these!!
Amazing!
I can't believe what I just witnessed. There are no words...
This indeed is a wonderful thing to hear and see. Thank you.
Bravo.
Breathtaking.
Best chaconne I've ever heard on any instrument.
I agree
not bad for a guitar, but cmon... doesnt hold a candle to violin
it is a beautiful interpretation and i’m honestly in love with it, but have you heard hillary hans chaconne? in my opinion that’s the best one
It's played a little faster than what I'm accustomed to hearing, and sounds very nice like that. Packs more punch!
Absolutely beautiful.. congratulations
Huge thank you to Master Bach too
Just wow..thank you
Wow, I believe that is the best version of this piece I have ever heard on the guitar. Your playing is so moving and your guitar sounds fantastic. What an achievement. Congratulations.
Amazing. Looks like a new Goran Sollscher. Most impressive approach to Bach I've ever heard in the guitar world.
I totally enjoyed that. Thank you very much. Beautifully done.
I just love what you do with that last scale...! Beautiful performance ll round...just stunning
Having a wider range for sustained base gives a full life to the notes
This guy is absolutely phenomenal! Sounds the closest to Bach out of all guitar interpretations
Try Julian Bream interpretation of this song
Most amazing thing I've heard on guitar!
