Great people create great films. Each person who worked on this movie seems kind, thoughtful and especially emotionally intelligent. Hooray! No temper tantrums on sets; no insulting one's co-workers, etc.

Like so many fans of the story (book and movie), I immediately became obsessed (in a good way). But also to squeeze every bit of emotion out of this, I grew obsessive with watching reactions on RUclips of those watching the movie for the first time. Some who had read the book were sometimes upset that things had been left out, including Alex's relation with the gay senator. I can't remember, though, seeing anyone understand how the use of Miguel's character to stitch so much of the plot development together. (When things AREN'T noticed sometimes is a tribute to how well they were implemented.)
At the same time, no matter how fans boo and hiss at Miguel, his efforts to derail things actually led to the opposite effect several times. He "outs" Alex's TX strategy, which gets Alex in trouble with the campaign at first, but ultimately was responsible for getting Ellen to implement it - and save her re-election. Miguel also publishes Henry's and Alex's emails, and again the ultimate effect turned out to let the two of them be completely open in their relationship (and again might have helped Ellen's re-election).
    ----
Another thing I haven't seen anyone really comment on but I certainly appreciate, is how inclusive Casey/Matt's world is and yet at the same time, how natural it was done. (Love Amy and how she was played.) This is the world I hope we continue to move toward.

After Matthew says that he realized that Nick and Taylor were the perfect fit 5 minutes into the chemistry reading, Nick raises his eyebrows as if to say: "It took you that long?!" 🤣

I first watched the movie and I LOVED it. When I watched it the second time I saw things that didn't go well mainly the most stupid quarrel about their height when it's OBVIOUS that Alex is taller than Henry. It didn't make sense. Then and seeing how everybody recommended the book so much I bought it and the HUGE difference with the movie made me feel that Matthew had just made his movie disregarding Casey's book completely. Why they still aprove of that horrible (if cute) adaptation is an enigma to me, but I guess they were so pleased with having the book made it a movie that they were OK with anything. Pity. As for Matthew, it was pretty obvious to me that he has an infatuation with Taylor and feels that he has to make Alex the macho of the 2, a very latino mission when pairing a (half) Maxican with a British royal. Too obvious, I think. I dread the sequel.

I mean, watching the movie and loving it means the movie did its job as an ADAPTATION, because of course it's not physically possible to fit the full book into a sub-2 hour movie. You need to see them as separate things because it's completely unfair to hold what a book can do against a movie's limitations. I know it can take a bit to get past the changes made, I read the book twice after the trailer came out, and I found the changes difficult to accept at first, but once you see them as separate entities it makes it easier to see the movie's story for what it is. It's a much more lean telling with a lot cut out, but it stays with the spirit of the book, just like other popular book to movie adaptations like Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Pride and Prejudice, etc.
No one's making you watch the sequel, so I'm not sure what you're complaining about on that front. Don't watch it if it's that big a problem for you. 🤷‍♀

@@natf7942 Thank you for letting me know that we disagree on this particular adaptation. And yes, other books have been adapted and also I liked some and didn't like others. As for you telling me that I can choose wether to watch the sequel or not, I'm afraid it's a bit patronizing because I know it will be my choice.

@@bcnmanhattan50yeah cuz you said you're dreading it like someone's gonna force you to watch it, which obviously no one is. Otherwise why would you dread something that's in no way compulsory? There's tons of movies out there I think look dumb but I'm not dreading them because why would I? I just get on with my life and don't even think about them.
I also don't go onto newly released RUclips videos 10 months after the thing I didn't like came out and complain about it, so 🤷‍♀️
