Only someone quite special, with an emotional strength well above any norm, with intelligence, sensitivity, and an absolute love of Taylor beyond that expressed in Shakespeare;s sonnets, could love Taylor and provide the. absolute, unquestioned , unambivalent, asymptotic journey to heaven.
3:36 thank you to this man for speaking openly about queer issues around the world and the positive impact that RWRB has brought. i wanna put TZP in my pocket and protect him. 4:01 honestly, TZP understand his character more than anyone. he manages to put himself in alex’s side all the time, like a soul connection. i wish TZP highlights and luck, even with all the industry irregularities. alex is a character that saved me, especially with tay’s interpretation. 6:39 mom support 🤣🥰💗💞💕 8:48 alex is unique 17:04 ADHD alex!! thank youuuu for saying.
What amazed me was Matthew Lopez's revelation that the actors took a lunch break during this highly emotional scene, When they returned, Lopez said Taylor started the scene by crying, and this caused Nicholas to weep too. Now THAT is great acting! Thanks everyone.
Thank you so much for this. We didn't get any real press for this movie because of the strike and it's so nice to finally see the actors talk about it. You can tell how much this film means to Taylor and how well he understands these characters. He did an amazing job breaking down this scene
I love how much care and attention tzp put into his performance as ACD. The way he speaks about ACDs character and intentions/thoughts is really meaningful. You can tell he really put time into understanding Alex
It is a crime that this man hasn't been in more, srsly there are so few actors out there who hold nothing back when portraying a character. Nick as well, they just have this unguarded openness and aren't afraid in the slightest to be vulnerable even when its for fiction. I could not be more invested in these two, they simply must be seen
The way Taylor understands Alex is so amazing to me! He really understood Alex to the T, both similarities and differences that he and Alex share! Also, I could listen to Taylor talk for hours! I love him so much!! Thank you so much for this! ❤🤍💙
totally agree. I love Alex's confusion when he realizes that he has feelings for Henry and that it grows until it becomes a deep love for which he will fight
I can't think of anyone who would play Alex so well, so sensitive and real, with such a range of expressions. You touched me hard . Waiting for your next projects.
Taylor is so down on earth and humble about his talent, that he doesn't actually talks about himself but shows it in how well he gets both of the characters. We as fans remember that Matthew said that when they comeback from lunch they just looked to each other and started to cry and worked on playing that scene so well. Its one of the most powerful and moving scene and means so much for us. We simply couldn't ask for a better Alex
How many young actors are sensitive and mature enough to weep during filming? That is so impressive. They care so much about the story that they want to make it as genuine as possible. Well done, gentlemen!
@@susanjoycesabo8450 It is Taylor that is so genuine, modest, and with a depth and intensity of emotion, only a straight could act opposite and fall in live with Taylor
Ever since Taylor revealed at the Deadline Contenders event that this scene was his chemistry read with Nick, it has deepened the meaning of the scene every time I’ve watched it, and this commentary has further intensified my feelings. We are SO BLESSED that he is our Alex! ❤️🤍💙
Taylor's understanding of this story and characters is so thorough and empathic. you can see how much care he puts into his work. Can't wait to see what he does next! Thanks for this!
Thank you so much for this, i could listen to Taylor for hours, the way he express himself, he's really thoughtful, transparent, gettin an insight of one of the greatest scenes in romcoms history by the star is absolutely beautiful, i love him ❤❤❤
we couldn't have had a better Alex, Tay understands him so well, he represented him so perfectly, as well as being an enlightened, sweet and kind person ❤
i cannot express how important to me it is that he understands alex completely. like he really did his homework and became the character. it’s so heartwarming how much he loves the book and is so passionate about bringing it to life.
This was the highlight of a bad week! Taylor is superb, so humble and gracious. So happy he is finally getting to talk about his movie and sharing with us 👏🏻💙
Taylor, you and the actors seem such a natural fit to the roles you play in this movie, I feel I've just watched Alex talking about his romance with Henry, not just you, as Taylor speaking.
I wish they would put out a DVD of ''Red, White & Royal Blue'' with Nick and Taylor doing commentary for the whole movie. They are such a master class in acting and chemistry. And then the DVD would have Matthew Lopez and Casey McQuiston doing a separate track with their observations. That would be so insightful and delightful.
This was very interesting. In a recent Actors on Actors with TZP and Joey King, a reviewer lamented that Taylor wasn't paired with another Latin actor like Gael Garcia Bernal, Oscar Issac or Antonio Banderas, someone older and more established who could talk about their insight and their process of acting. The reviewer liked Perez and King, she just didn't find the exchange all that compelling. I bet she'd like this video. As a former model the emphasis is usually on TZP's appearance, with photo shoots and red carpet interviews with GQ, Vogue etc. Here he talks intelligently and thoughtfully about his take on creating the character Alex. He should do more of this. As an aside, this has become the kind of talk about acting that recent interviews with Nick Galitzine focuses on.
I really admire him. He knows the character so much. He echoed so many thoughts I've had about Alex while reading the book or watching the film. Thanks TV Insider! More please!
I appreciate so much that he gets not only Alex's emotions in this so well (of course) but also what Henry is facing and why he acted the way he did as well. Sometimes I see people bashing Henry and it's like, he didn't run because he didn't love Alex, he did it because he knew they could never really be together. It's why the two of them are made for each other, Henry's so trapped and feels like he can never do what he wants for himself because of the pressures of the Crown. Alex doesn't appreciate that at first and thinks their love can just overcome it because their feelings are all that matters. This scene shows Alex the depth of Henry's powerlessness and Alex realises what they're up against, but it also shows Henry that Alex is willing to fight for them to be together, even if it seems impossible on the face of it, so he gives Henry the strength to finally see that things could be different. They balance each other so well, it's what I've always loved about them. I wish we could have a commentary with both of them and Matthew for the entire movie, but this is a great snippet at least.
Honestly, what pressure did Henry feel? He was a prince who would not be king any time soon, with his mother Philip the king himself in front of him in the succession. With this narrative, H was just too much of a coward to try to get out of this cycle. He is an asshole who only thinks about himself.
I loved this analysis. Taylor expresses himself so clearly. Honestly, I hung on every word. I found this scene to be very powerful. I cry every time I’ve seen it.
I felt like I was watching the film with him, I wish I could see that with the whole film, he's incredible, he completely understands the character and the film. I love you TZP ❤
0:55 Taylor says the Kensington scene is one of the audition scenes and that they were looking for Alex for a long time and maybe nobody got it right until him. It makes me wonder if the others played it like book Alex who came mad and screaming while Taylor played movie Alex a lot more different. Less "storming the castle", more looking for answers.
I think we will never know the true story behind them being casted, because when you think much the story they are giving us is not adding up, really these two did a great job
The raft scene seemed very symbolic with Henry jumping in the water as Henry felt his suffocation level of not being able to be himself bubbles to the surface after finding someone who truly loves.
I love hearing about the process of creating this film from TZP. It's great to gain insights into the days on set, working with colleagues, and his thoughts on the characters' mindsets.
I love RWRB so much! Being a romance + The West Wing fan is a crossover I badly needed! Sorkin and his incredible scripts captivated me all those years ago. TWW just wasn't the same after Sam Seaborn's character left...
Further cementing in my mind how perfect Taylor was for this role! He articulated Alex's personality and mind so well which is what you hope an actor can do with a beloved character. I loved hearing him share what aspects of the character were daunting and challenging for him to step into.
This scene literally made me cry. To see these characters in love with one another so deeply, and not be so totally open in public just crushes me inside. I have many friends that are gay, lesbians and transgender. Some of them have children. They are beautiful people inside and out.
Trying to absorb the intensity that Alex expresses his associations almost directly from his unc, the purity, the absolute honesty and integrity is impressive beyond integration: he Is incredible. How his partner (future or present) can tolerate the intensity of his emotions on a daily basis, not just over breakfast but as they snuggle to sleep, is awesome. The complexity of his personality is laid bare, vulnerable, open, tender, sensitive, loving and such purity is just overwhelming. All this going on as he pleads his love to Henry as an actor, oh god this scene is the zenith of their struggle to love...Alex puts his heart and soul on the line, and Henry MUST resist, tor n between his heart and his duty: the direction is beyond superb. How these two guys come down after such a scene is impossible to imagine. They can't kiss and hug an get the tension out by fusing with the moment. The extraordinary nature of Alex's personality is so easy to love and hold and comfort. ad the intensity he must exude having sex with a partner must just leave a puddle of pheromones on the bedsheets. I now know why he was cast for the role. That Henry is straight is a credit to his essence to do this scene and not want to drag Alex to bed and make it. Bravo, bravo
This was great!! It was so interesting to hear Taylor talk about the scene in Henry's bedroom. Hearing him talk about how and why he played the role of Alex. This was very insightful and very informative to help us understand the characters and why they said and did what they did. I think Taylor is an amazing actor as well as Nicholas. They were the perfect choice to play Alex and Henry.
I have been an Alex for someone I loved and That was not able to go the distance althouhg It made him so very Happy. I understand perfectly his desperation to try to share his faith in their LOVE and convince him. Thats why I LOVE the film so much and the work they both do.A lnd yes It IS a short of being coward to not try to change things when you can, even For duty
Illuminating and refreshing. So interesting to see TZP being his (very different) self to Alex, and breaking down this scene. It deepens the audience understanding of the acting process, and that it is as far from as easy as it looks! Although it is a very emotional scene, it is also very restrained - no-one is throwing themselves around the room and having soap opera type hysterics. Both actors are feeding the other, and giving each other energy and space to do their own thing. Makes this scene always fresh, always relatable, always moving. I still wish they had retained the line from the book where Henry says how, right from the first time he touched Alex, it should have been clear he was never anything but in love with Alex; that would have really nailed how hard but inevitable it was for Henry to walk away without a word; not cowardice, but characteristic British stiff upper lip courage. A lovely commentary from a lovely TZP. All bodes so well for the sequel!
The most phantastic thing of these film IS to transmit the emotions as they are, no Matter if they are queer or not.,just two persons struggling for their love.
The director is right to put this scene on the audition as well as putting the emphasis on this scene during the production because this is the scene where Alex finally broke through Henry's cocoon that he always crawls back to and it's so bad that they cut the fireside chat scene where Henry told him the story about the prince that lives in his armour forever locked in the palace and is finally rescued by the peasant boy because this is where Alex, the peasant boy in the story storms the castle and takes away the armour one by one and is now prying away the final shield on the prince's heart finally freeing the prince. And this is another reason why I think everybody is so upset that the fireside chat scene is cut from the final version of the movie because the fireside story would've given so much meaning to this castle-storming scene and really putting it in more perspective of what Henry was going through and the significance of Alex's action and how and why after this, their relationship goes up to a different level that they are truly belonging to each other. And I honestly don't know why the fireside scene has to be cut. The fireside chat scene would've taken place before this castle-storming scene. It could've very well stayed in the movie and it would've given lot more to the character development as well as plot development which is what many reviewers have complained that the movie lacked.
Tht scene is something else. Itbchanges the entire trajectory of their relationship..I loved Taylor taking us through his experience of it.. wish we could get Nick's POV as well
Excellent excellent interview. Taylor made reference to many things that are deeply relatable. And yes. I did have someone in my life who helped me see things in a different way, for my benefit. For me to live life being truer to myself and let go of linited beliefs. Taylor expresses himself exceptionally well. He is also very self-aware. To grow as a person, this is something important for all of us. I appreciated his explanation of when certain words of sentences don't feel right to us. Is it because they don't feel right to us personally or because they don't feel right in the character they are portraying. That was very insightful. I absolutely LOVE RW & RB. I have no idea how many times I watched it. I catch something new each time. The characters are fantastic. Nick & Taylor were perfectly cast for their roles. Everyone was amazing. I was glad to see Uma Thurman. She is fantastic at her craft. What a talent. Stephen Fry. What can I say! When he walked in, took a cigarette, paused, then went to pour himself a drink.....I was laughing so much. I get a kick out of how Brits say the word "homosexual'. Especially Stephen Fry!! 👌👌 "Zara" was amazing. Perfectly cast. I wish Taylor continued success in his acting career, modeling career, and all his present & future endeavors. I have a feeling he is going to get cast in a role for a movie, that will be the catalyst ahowing an intense, serious Taylor. People will be shocked. That's my feeling 🙏👌
From all the gay movies I've seen over the years, this one really left an impression on me. Now reading the book for the first time and enjoying the ride of emotions.
I love how he totally gets Alex in a way we can feel how affectionate he’s for the character and his importance. ❤
Taylor expresses himself so well and talks about Alex so thoughtfully and passionately! He is the best and deserves all the success!❤❤
Goodness, I could listen to him talk about anything. I want this type of commentary for the entire movie!
Word! One downside of the decline of the DVD/blueray and the upswing of streaming is the loss of commentary for the viewers to enjoy!
VERY few nowadays have an Alex in their life. It's incredibly rare. That's why this movie is like a comfort meal for millions.
Ganz genau! Ich denke, alter und geschlecht ist nebensache, nur die wahre Liebe zählt aber das findet man heutzutage äusserst selten.

Love the explanation of this scene.
That's my feeling 🙏👌
best boy 🥰
thank you for this
From all the gay movies I've seen over the years, this one really left an impression on me. Now reading the book for the first time and enjoying the ride of emotions.
"I storm in a fuking castle" You play it so well with that painful little laugh.
I'm so happy for you Taylor!!!!❤
Ooh, so good
