I’ve been a freelance designer for 7 years and it’s been such an interesting journey. Partly luck and partly strategy. But I have more work than I can handle these days and looking back I can say my whole career came down to finding the right 2 or 3 clients that made it essentially unnecessary for me to ever have to advertise or doing any self promotion in the last 5 years. I wish I would have done what you’re doing and documented it. But it takes a lot of courage to do that. I’m excited to follow your journey. 👍🏽
Really great video! I'm on the same journey, though I'm not as far along since I don't have a degree in graphic design. Still, I realized I can't let life pass without giving it a try because I'm truly passionate about it! Keep going-I’d love to see your progress and find motivation from it! ❤️
No need to have a degree 🤩You already have everything to begin making your dreams your reality, thank you for your support :) Would love to hear updates on your progress too!
I've recently decided to start this journey as well. For a long time I believed I wanted to get into fashion, but after doing some soul searching I realized I may be interested in it, I absolutely love the range of art the people in the industry create, but I don't think I have the passion to succeed and do what it takes to make it in that field. Maybe that's me being critical in myself or not having faith, but it's an entirely different feeling when making the decision to go after a career in graphic design. In both cases I'd be going in starting from zero, however, for some reason with this choice there's less stress and fear of not knowing where to start or lack of confidence in myself.
Hey! Freelance Video Editor and fellow aspiring creator here 👋 Great video! Excited to watch the next and the rest to come. Always find these kinds of videos interesting, being on a similar journey myself having left my full time job in December and starting my freelance journey.
Hey! I'm a marketer and copywriter and I'm currently on the same journey as you: trying to go freelance and make a name for myself. I think watching your videos is going to be like having a friend along for the ride. I don't plan on creating a RUclips channel, but I do want to start an IG page and I'm currently working on my Contra profile and my website, so those goals really spoke to me.
This is such a great start, it can be so daunting putting your work out there but to do a RUclips video on top is next level. I'm trying to get back into the industry after an extended break because of a toxic workplace that burnt me out. The industry is trash to get back into right now where I am, and positions are super competitive so I am considering doing some freelance as well. I'm very inspired by your video and look forward to seeing you grow and establish yourself in the industry. You've got this! And good luck with your studies! 🥰
I'm doing this journey with you. I'm a design student getting close to graduation and I feel I need to get a head start so that I'm not floating in space come graduation. As far as I can see you are already such a talented designer and I know you'll be successful! But I'm with you on how difficult it is to pick a place to start, it's a bit overwhelming. I'm happy to see you're documenting this! I'll be staying in touch!
great job, as a graphic design student myself, I hear ya girl, its a tough ass job but I think you're doing great and something that I think about a lot day to day
Thanks for sharing the video. I'm also aiming to become a full-time artist. I'm unsure how to do it, so I'm excited to see what a potential path will look like. Also, I think both vlogs and podcast-style videos could be helpful. Vlogs help visualize the daily routine, while podcast-style videos are good for giving specific advice, updates, and sharing thoughts.
Thank you for your comment! I think that you're right both styles could be nice, I'll think of that for the next video :) Stay tuned and good luck on your artist journey
subscribed! i love your content and i’m doing the same journey with you, so i can understand and feel the same way. good luck for your journey ahead! looking forward to your other contents 🎉
I love this so much! You definitely gained another subscriber! I'd love to see vlog-style content. :) I've been a freelance writer since 2008, and I'm in the middle of a really huge pivot where it feels like I'm in newbie territory again so I started documenting the shift. So new, so scary lol. I've been doing this so long and am JUST now creating a website because I've moving beyond referrals and pitching corporate clients. Even as a writer, it just wasn't necessary for me because word of mouth went a long way. A lot of people write it off, but it can be so good to gain experience and keep a steady flow of work. Oh and I'm constantly giving out my business cards to random people because they're curious, and a good percentage turn into clients (72% if you're curious!). I recently gave a stack to my massage therapist because he wants to hand them out to his colleagues on my behalf 🤣 I definitely recommend keeping track of how many cards you hand out and how many of those turn into clients so you can see if it's a higher conversion rate than other methods.
Wow! 72% is insanely high, I didn't expect that honestly. I will definitely be distributing those then... 👀 haha Thank you for the tip! Good luck with your new writing pivot ⭐️
I’ve never subscribed so fast before on a first video! 🦢✨ Love how transparent you are, the pacing of this video and the commentary style. It’s very comforting to watch and I like hearing your points and perspective on how you want to frame your journey. Haven’t watched other videos yet but I hope I can hear more about your goals and planning towards it! 🌷 I have been a graphic designer for 6 years now, freelancing on and off. I feel really stuck right now because I don’t have my own style and I really wanna try finding it and do more illustration :’-) even though our paths might differ a little, I find many common grounds still! Can’t wait for more videos! 💗✨
Thank you for your support, I appreciate it so much!!! It's really heartwarming to hear that you can relate to a lot of it. I just want to let you know that you already have your unique "style", there's no one else in the world who can ever recreate your designs! And that's enough 🥰
Awesome video! I am actually doing the exact same thing! While I don't have a degree in Graphic design, I have become a sponge of information that I have collected over the last few months. I would love to collaborate and go on this journey together! Either way, I can't wait to see how things go for you!
Really happy I saw this video on my feed! I've been considering this same journey (though I'm self-taught) and you're already inspiring me to keep going!
It would be great if you made videos a bit longer, 20min and added more details of how you are doing everything. as a screen record and a voice-over accounting for the process
Thank you Ania! Can you please make a video on how to best present ourselves on Instagram or social media? As a multipassionate person that loves doing many styles of art & design, is it okay to have a diverse looking portfolio?
Kindly mix them,, a presentation of a commentary and vlog style but you can keep it to design stuff for now if you are not comfortable sharing other spaces other than work as you slowly delve into discovering what your audience prefer. amazing inspirational video😘😘😘
Oops. Looks like I commented twice, not knowing that links automatically count as spam on RUclips. So I removed the links from my comment 🙃. Any suggestions or feedback are appreciated! *Hi Ania! Great video! Good job on starting! Like you, I’m on a journey of creating digital products. I would say I’m a self-taught graphic designer without formal education in graphic design. But I love learning and creating. I saw your other videos where you talked about how overwhelming it can be to choose the right fonts, etc. I totally agree with you. I decided to comment on this video because you talked about business cards, and I just launched my website for making digital business cards. I still don’t feel ready to call myself a graphic designer, so for now, I’m a digital creator.🙈 I’m still hesitating about starting a vlog, but making RUclips videos has been on my mind for a long time. I absolutely love that you are trying to build a community for those who are just starting on this journey. I had similar ideas in mind but haven’t taken action yet on my RUclips journey.
So nice of you to leave a comment! Thank you 😍 Go you for launching your website and getting started! Anyone can become a graphic designer, don't limit yourself by not calling yourself what you want to become. I also sat on the idea of starting RUclips for a very long time and then I asked, why am I holding myself back? This is what ultimately got me to take action, visualizing myself a year from now and thanking myself for getting started. It's a scary first step but after that it's all smooth sailing, I can promise you at least that. Good luck! 🍀
Cara is a really cool platform from what I hear! I think that Cara is more tailored for illustrators and animators now rather than designers from what I can see, perhaps I'm wrong though. So for now, I'll stick to Instagram and consider moving to Cara once there is a big graphic design audience 🙂

Any tips for learning graphic design on your own?
It would be great if you made videos a bit longer, 20min and added more details of how you are doing everything.

❤❤❤❤❤Love it❤❤❤❤❤
I’m on a similar journey as well, I am a beginner though 😅.
subbed!
day in a life kinda vlogs works better for me as an audience
Do you recommend any courses or books for learning the fundamentals of graphic design?
You have a cool name.
Your portfolio link?
could you share your journey pf subscribers increasing from 14 to 1000?
Do you design your own typefaces?
I do not :) the closest thing I did was handwrite my own words but creating a typeface would be really cool to do one day!
girl your face card is insane holy shit😐😐
Speaking of Instagram, are you not planning to migrate to Cara?
Cara is a really cool platform from what I hear! I think that Cara is more tailored for illustrators and animators now rather than designers from what I can see, perhaps I'm wrong though. So for now, I'll stick to Instagram and consider moving to Cara once there is a big graphic design audience 🙂
bro you indian?
she looks more central asian rather than indian.
