I really enjoyed the fact that this was done in the drive and not in a garage with big post lifts, etc. It is inspiring me to get going again on my Series 3 109. Thanks!
Nice job guys. Here in Johannesburg South Africa I renovated my 69 2a shorty. I bought an ex army 2a 109 plus about an extra 10 inches added to the rear chassis by the army for some military reasons as a donar vehicle . Anyway it had 18000miles on and every nut and bolt was original. I had to remove from the donar the front cross member as mine had been butchered in a previous life to accommodate a Nissan 6 cylinder diesel. When I took off the front cross member off the donar vehicle the inside of the chassis was still bright silver metal. How I wish I could have given it too you guys. Good luck.
Enjoying the strip down and rebuild if your putting the hardtop on could you do a detailed video on it as there's nothing on RUclips anywhere apart from quick ones missing adding the bolts , rubber seals etc after putting mine on with my son (both novices ) we found it hard to get the main 4 corner bolts in and the roof to screen as new rubber seals did not help due to the thickness of them so we put longer bolts in to pull it down tight as the normal ones were to short with it then we put the originals in and replaced the ones we used to pull it down , There' loads of fitting a canvas top as I have used your video before I put the hard top with catflap on. Thanks
The engine, box and axles have since been pressure washed but we were battling the clock to get it rolling. Bushes are an interference fit so anything that adds lubrication should be avoided. Thanks for watching!
Great job. Future topic I would like hear discussed would be chassis option from various manufacturers, and why you chose HD chassis over standard, positives and negatives.
This is a great topic. Replacing chassis in a 74 NADA in US, trying to decide between Richard’s or Marsland but can’t get a good answer as to why one or the other!
Being military, the old chassis didn't have a stamped-in number. If the old chassis had one, the area it would have been stamped into would have been cut out and kept.
Top tip, if you’re using and engine crane on gravel, buy. Couple of sheets of ply or osb to run it on…. Makes the job much easier
Your old chassis looks in remarkably good condition!
It's not as good up close!
@@landrovermonthly7806my 110 chassis was like that
Currently fitting a new Maer chassis

Glad you enjoyed it!
Next series needs to be Martin behind the camera whilst Steve finishes his Ninety! Enjoyed the video as ever gents, look forward to the next video.
I hope you don't mind waiting a few years...
I have an even better idea. I continue to film, whilst Martin finishes my Land Rover!
MARTIN and NEIL great to see you fellows since lr owner days

It's a truck cab, sorry! Thanks for watching though
Must admit, my OCD would of at least pressure washed the axles.
Any reason you cannot copper grease the bushes as they go in?
Great work so far!

Well said Philip
Way to go!
Thanks for watching, Scott!
Why didn't yas pressure clean the motor and gearbox before installing it
Time
Why would you not strip and check the diffs.
Because the Land Rover drove perfectly before stripping with no untoward noises (well, no more than usual anyway)
@@landrovermonthly7806 thats cool. Its looking good so far.

Good idea, we'll do our best to make that happen!

How did you protect the holes you drilled? I assume some sort of spray on galvanised paint? Thanks
Primer and paint, but cold galv spray is best
let me know if you fancy doing another one :() iv got a 1971 series 3 109 sat in my garden needing a maer chassis and bulkhead. haha.
Get stuck into it!
Question , would you remove the VIN off the frame and apply it to the new frame ?
Being military, the old chassis didn't have a stamped-in number. If the old chassis had one, the area it would have been stamped into would have been cut out and kept.
I’m going to re chassis my 83 110 , can I ask why you didn’t paint it as I’m in two minds myself?
It was purely a time thing. Definitely worth painting if you can
A brand new chassis deserved to have the engine/gearbox to be degreased and steam cleaned.
It was pressure washed after filming. It's not all that interesting to watch!
Ha yes, we have been rather spoilt by Mark Evans’ “a 4x4 is born”.
@@landrovermonthly7806 Why did you not clan and pain the axils prior to fitting
Time
@@landrovermonthly7806 yes this isn’t Project Binkey 😂
Need to spend a bit more time slinging your bits so they’re level
We did have a proper level bar but it robbed too much height from the crane.
Its caused me no end of annoyance that you didn't even wash the axles off. Terrible
We were against the clock when this was filmed, and didn't want to put the axles on wet. They've since had a blast with the pressure washer!
Botch job, should of cleaned everything up first
What difference will cleaning it make? 😂
As other comments, axles and engine/box were cleaned later.
