I've taken up golf this week. Driving range only for a few weeks for me. I went a few times this week, watched this last night, and the difference in my irons from this video alone is amazing. Cheers Pete
I’ve never had a lesson. Except from you on RUclips and after 4 years in the game watching your drills practicing I’m finally shooting in the mid 80s!! :,) please don’t stop making these awesome videos tutorials and vlogs!!!!!
The minimal hip rotation made me realize that not only did I every so often chunk some golf shots (which rarely happens), but I also tended to release the golf club LATE at impact, at times more unexpectedly, but was not quite sure why. After I started to rotate my hips more, my ball striking is improving dramatically. Thank you for the video, Pete!
This video helped me out more than any other. Started fatting every shot (wasn't before) and this helped me to understand that I was swaying away from the target when winding up for the shot. Now i Concentrate on staying over the ball and just moving hips and I'm striping 8 or 9 shots out of 10 where I want them to go. Thanks Pete!!
Definitely feel like I need to try this. I've taken 5 shots off my game recently so your pointers are working for me. This and the right mindset when hitting the shots I need to work on
Ive been practicing off a mat and didnt realise it was an issue until I played yesterday and dug trenches all day. man it was so frustrating. I cant believe this video was released today I really needed to see this. Thankyou
Peter, I have been learning from your video since I started golfing seriously 3 years back. I have never commented in any of your channel. I broke 110,100,90,80(a few times) and I am consistently hitting 80s nowadays. Thank you so much for providing awesome videos (and I do enjoy your subtle jokes like 3:32) Kudos to you from California.
This was so helpful. While I’m not continuously making the best contact as of right now my good contact swings have greatly improved and my bad contact swings are as good or better then my great contact swings before.
I have just started to stop fatting my iron shots; feels great. And its due to an earlier vlog you did talking about low point of the swing. Cheers for that!
Hi Pete. I’ve been new to Golf post lock down. Expectations problem of starting out and wanting to be gd straight away . Watched this video this morn and went out and played 12 holes. Threw the card away after 5 and really tryed to apply some of the tips from the vid like holding pose at end of shot to see body alignment. While there was still a lot of not gd shots in there, I genuinely hit some screamers. Thanks for your vids and tips. It was watching you and Rick over lockdown actually got me into golf Colm from NZ by way of Ireland.
Thank you for this . Been struggling lately with the irons and hitting the ball first on a consistent basis! I'll be hitting the range using the folks .. except for maybe the chair .. we shall see! Keep up the great content!
The most clutch timing for this coaching video. Been catching my irons a little chunky for the a little while now, and after just 8 minutes of some brilliant Peter Finch explanation and advice the light bulb turned on 💡. Probably just saved me several more weeks of frustration and yelling at myself😅
Will be trained tomorrow and hopefully this helps me a lot. Thanks Pete, you’re doing a great job. And sometimes I will come over to England to take some lessons and have a round with you (and Rick and Matt?) Would be a great fun.
Just recently started getting over my hard-coded fat shots. Hands in front of the club was the thing that finally fixed it. Of course I did do a little work on hip rotation.
Great tip to pay attention to body position at the end of your swing. I have a problem with flicking my wrists. Last lesson my instructor worked with me on clearing my hips. Maybe you can do a video on some clearing the hip drills.
"No, its pulley! But I missed the chair..so that's the main thing" Cracked me up xD as always fantastic content, drills an humor :D Keep up the amazing work!
Hey Pete! Video Idea: Where should my weight be during my swing. I seem to have my weight forward to much in my backswing and then I am hitting my irons way to low. You can also incorporate ball positions for different clubs. Thanks!
Try to look into what a reverse pivot is. That may be the cause of your topping of shots. Weight should be on your back foot during your backswing, and move forward through your front foot and cause you to naturally roll over your front heel as you come through and finish your swing.
Pete can you do a video about aiming at the target struggling with aiming my drives correctly I have a slight fade that sometimes turns into a full on slice cheers 👍👍
Okay, so I get that hitting the ground before the ball means you hit it "fat", but what exactly is hitting it fat? Why that term? And what is the downside to it. I'm a new golfer - actually, im not a golfer at all, I still haven't actually tried it - so I'm confused what the PURPOSE is of hitting ball then ground, and the subsequent divot that causes. What are you trying to accomplish that hitting ball and ground simultaneously does not accomplish? I see lots of tips from guys like you and Rick on how to fix it, but no explanation of why doing it wrong is actually a problem. Love the channel, keep up the good work!
Holding a drill stick on the club so it sticks out above the handle encourages the shaft lean/wrist angle through impact and makes you turn your body. Works for me. Also maybe stand just a little further away as you can stand up and throw the club early if you're too close
Awesome Stuff Pete very well explained, this is a great drill for all skill levels! All i'm thinking about though is the ghost of Ben Hogan taking over my body hahaha!
I’ve learned that for me the whole swing is timing. If my weight is where it needs to be at the right time I make good contact. The angles and positions don’t matter as much when my timing is on.
For me it just came down to shifting my weight onto my leading leg and maintaining that through the backswing and follow through. The rest kind of just fell into place naturally. I was getting no-where trying to parse out the details of the tiny mechanical changes and angles. just a simple swing thought kind of organically did the work for me. Every fat I hit now I can immediately identify as my upper body falling back during my downswing or casting my hands (which is kind of a result of the same problem). Still lower body, less is more, keep your weight slightly forward. for me the "feel" is something like 70/30 front leg/back leg. but probably less in reality.
I really struggled with fat shots, really focusing and committing to a point in the turf literally a whole inch in front of the ball has made my strikes pure as the driven snow. Couldn't recommend that enough
I've always thought that on the downswing you should both be moving laterally towards the target (to create the low-point just after the ball) AND untwisting. am I wrong? Im just a bit confused about why you should avoid hitting the chair.
Is there ANY way to do any of this without doing drills? I don't have a convenient range to get to daily to hit a bucket on the regular. :( :( :( Maybe I should take up darts or something I can do more around the house.
My nemesis was the slap hook. Put me off playing entirely. Two things stopped it; allowing my right elbow to float further away (ignoring all the towel under the armpit drills) and standing slightly closer to the ball. No idea why it worked or what it stopped me doing.
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR WATCHING ❤️ this and my other vids, means lots 😁 have a great weekend
Peter Finch Golf 😁
Liked and shared the video! Have a nice weekend too!
Definitely going to try the chair drill, mine comes with a cooler of pub cocktails, :)
Thanks for the content
Love your videos Mr. Finch. And I like that practice move you make. I've been using it lately myself.
“The chunky monkey” that’s the best phrase I’ve heard in a long time 😂😂😂
Oh back in the day I could hammer some Chunky Monkey 🍨 !

Peter you are the man. Every time I think of an area of improvement you just post the video. THANK YOU!
Needed this video Pete!
This is good to hear 👍
So much information I had to watch it twice! Cheers Pete another great video
This was so helpful. While I’m not continuously making the best contact as of right now my good contact swings have greatly improved and my bad contact swings are as good or better then my great contact swings before.
Great video, LOVE the visuals of holding the poses
I have just started to stop fatting my iron shots; feels great.

Wow!! What a drill packed video!! Thanks!!!
Thanks Pete! Really looking forward to practicing these tips 👍🙌

Between you and Rick I feel like I can get my golf game going in the right direction!
Just recently started getting over my hard-coded fat shots. Hands in front of the club was the thing that finally fixed it. Of course I did do a little work on hip rotation.
Great vid pete! As always. I needed these drills I've been working on trying to hit down on the ball better. So perfect timing👍
Thank you for the video and all your work I feel like you've really helped my game. Best.
Thanks Pete. I've never actually thought of looking down at my body position at end of swing. This will help. 👌
Another brilliant tips and lesson thank you Pete.
Used the trophy drill on the course yesterday and shot a gross 77. Cheers Pete.
Was looking at my last scorecard and noticed I would have scored MUCH better without a couple fat shots. Thanks Peter!
One of utubes golfing good guys, knows his Shizzle too 👍🏻🏌🏻♂️⛳️
I really have to say i love your videos. Its sooo funny😂😂😂.
Evening Pete so enjoyed your video with matt and the old ball v new 1 and thanx for another gr8 video for me to practise with
This has been one aspect of my game that has greatly improved over the past year thanks to good coaches like yourself!
Why thank you
Another great video Pete, between you and Rick you've helped me identify and correct some of my many flaws 😂😂⛳⛳. Keep up the good work!!
Great video Pete hopefully will help me tomorrow
The Last Drill is fantastic. Will try an alignment stick instead of a chair. Should work aswell. Thank you Peter
Thank you Pete that last drill wil help me out massively. Feel like when I'm rotating I'm flicking my hips up and not around 👍
Love your videos man. Hell of a teacher too
Super useful, thanks!
Thanks pete top video.driving range it is tomorrow 👍🏻
Great tip to pay attention to body position at the end of your swing. I have a problem with flicking my wrists. Last lesson my instructor worked with me on clearing my hips. Maybe you can do a video on some clearing the hip drills.

Can't wait to try this tomorrow.
Nice video. Very helpful
Great vid Pete...not sure about the trousers.
Great video Peter, explained nicely with a little bit of humour
Acustrike mat. Really worked for me.
Thanks for the content Pete!
Loved this video, but my absolute favorite drill for hitting fat is the Gary Player walk through!
Great video Peter! Love the tips.👍
Great info and set of drills
I'll certainly put this to use. Hopefully I hit my long irons better
Get to it
Went in the garden and had a few swings concentrated on my hand position and rotating on my body through the swing, it felt good.

Shark Merchant, thanks man! Watched a few videos and I have some great drills to fix it! Thanks again!
love all your content!
Everyone does videos on how to stop chunking but I want one on how to stop thinning. Could you make one on how to stop thinning?
Sensational Seb same. And on my practice swings, it’s always good.
Pete can you do a video about aiming at the target struggling with aiming my drives correctly I have a slight fade that sometimes turns into a full on slice cheers 👍👍

I'm all about them hips, them hips..... no wrists 😂 yet another smashing vid pete, handicap down 5 shots since I subscribed 👍
Great video. Next one should be about how to fit a chair into a golfbag. Together with a discussion about whether it counts as one of the 14 clubs.
Holding a drill stick on the club so it sticks out above the handle encourages the shaft lean/wrist angle through impact and makes you turn your body. Works for me. Also maybe stand just a little further away as you can stand up and throw the club early if you're too close
I died at the whiff at the backwards chair-sit a la A.C. Slater. Thanks for another good vid in the Peter Finch Tight Pants Collection (PFTPC).
I like that trophy idea. Might try it on the range before the round today and just make that the swing thought for the day.
THAT...WAS A GOOD DRILL!
Love these videos. I might get some funny looks when I walk into the driving range with a chair 😂
Good vid need it right now,I can do the perfect swing without a ball, put the ball Infront of me and my brain just will not perform the same swing
Awesome Stuff Pete very well explained, this is a great drill for all skill levels! All i'm thinking about though is the ghost of Ben Hogan taking over my body hahaha!
3 courses in my town, but the nearest driving range is 80km away. What training/drills could I do at home that’d be most beneficial?
Literally at the range as I watch this and my god is this needed, please work 🙏🏻
That’s it. I’m not turning at the waist correctly and constantly. I’m sliding if you will towards the target. Thanks 🙏🏻
I’ve learned that for me the whole swing is timing. If my weight is where it needs to be at the right time I make good contact. The angles and positions don’t matter as much when my timing is on.
aloo la verdad re lindo video me encanto espero el siguiente grabación me despido les dejo besis muchas gracias
How about a blog about thinning the ball as well Peter
"Chunky Monkey" - Great term. Going to go try it on my wife, brb!!
Never heard from again.
@@76pilotpeters43 Think I've seen the funeral details...
Great content 👍
Going to practice some of this tonight at the range
Any chance u could do a vid on thining the ball pete??
I re-watched the third hit. you didn't hit the ground. Thanks for the help and fun videos.
You are really good at it
For me it just came down to shifting my weight onto my leading leg and maintaining that through the backswing and follow through. The rest kind of just fell into place naturally. I was getting no-where trying to parse out the details of the tiny mechanical changes and angles. just a simple swing thought kind of organically did the work for me. Still lower body, less is more, keep your weight slightly forward. for me the "feel" is something like 70/30 front leg/back leg. but probably less in reality.
How do u make solid contact while keeping your hands ahead? What am I missing with my swing?
😁 is the face i make every time peter uploads
😁😁😁 me when you guys watch
Peter Finch Golf 🙏🏾
You crack me up Pete 😀
Another great PF vid lesson, I just don't get it , Between Peter, Rick, Matt, Carter, Mark, Piers and Andy , Why am I not a 2 Handicapper ??? ;)
I really struggled with fat shots, really focusing and committing to a point in the turf literally a whole inch in front of the ball has made my strikes pure as the driven snow. Couldn't recommend that enough
If you're ever looking for a trip to Edinburgh would love to take you on my course to see your opinion 👌
Great video. Only just noticed you have your left foot turned out alot. Whats the reason?
Thankyou 👍
I've always thought that on the downswing you should both be moving laterally towards the target (to create the low-point just after the ball) AND untwisting. am I wrong? Im just a bit confused about why you should avoid hitting the chair.
Hitting the big ball before the small ball. My favorite.
I think Pete would be a good edition to Skysports analysts team. Brings an element of personality to golf.
I stopped hitting fat shots by switching to hitting thin shots and tops. Sometimes I cannot seem to make myself hit the tee or ground
Is there ANY way to do any of this without doing drills? I don't have a convenient range to get to daily to hit a bucket on the regular.
:( :( :(
Maybe I should take up darts or something I can do more around the house.
I will do doing this next trip to the range
"Greenkeeper come out and chase you away with a pitchfork" 😂😂😂
Towel behind the ball helped me
Entertaining as always. #Teepeggedintheface 🤣
My nemesis was the slap hook. Put me off playing entirely. Two things stopped it; allowing my right elbow to float further away (ignoring all the towel under the armpit drills) and standing slightly closer to the ball. No idea why it worked or what it stopped me doing.
The spirit of Ben Hogan. 🤣🤣
