  • Since Man (and Woman) has been trying to hit a ball with a stick, Golfers have been frustrated by how difficult it can be to hit the golf ball first and the grass second. Sounds simple enough, so why is it so difficult? In short, it’s because we’re always in such a hurry. Such a hurry to hit the golf ball from the top of the golf swing. In a hurry to generate power and start that downswing with the club. Oops!
    Therein lies the true issue for thousands, if not millions of golfers all over the world - The Early Release. Releasing the club early in the downswing presents so many issues for the golfer, including poor kinetic energy, loss of power, scooping, poor angle of attack and of course - Fat and Thin Shots!
    Angle of Attack, or Angle of Approach is the key factor here. The player who releases early, loses ‘Lag’, bottoms the club out early and invariably mishits the shot. The shaft angle is vertical at best and might even be leaning backwards away from the target, almost ensuring a mishit. The clubhead takes the turf first producing that ‘heavy’ strike or misses the grass altogether, for a thin or bladed contact. No compression, no easy clubhead speed and no late hit.
    Aussie Golf Pros explains the true causes of Early Release and outline an effective 3-step plan for fixing this golf swing destroying problem. Glen also reveals one of his favourite drills to really help you feel that late hit.

    ABOUT AUSSIE GOLF PROS
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Steve Gannon and Glen Haynes created Aussie Golf Pros to provide a learning platform for golfers of all levels. They post content regularly on social media accounts. Their website, www.aussiegolfpros.com, includes blogposts, golf coaching series and links to great programs. New content, videos and downloads are added regularly.
    Golf Coaches, Not Teachers
    The Aussie Golf Pros are holistic coaches in every sense of the word. Steve and Glen are both fully qualified members of the PGA of Australia and are avid students of the Sports Sciences. Together, they are certified in Advanced Golf Coaching, Golf Psychology, TPI (Body-Swing Connection), NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), Personal Development and Skill Acquisition.
    Steve and Glen are not ‘Method’ coaches. They recognise that there are literally 1000’s of ways to swing a golf club! Rather than try to ‘change’ your swing, their goal is to help You Be The Best Golfer You Can Be!
    Skill Development vs Technical Changes
    Although technique is an important factor in improving a golfer’s performance, Skill Development is largely neglected in golf coaching today. Skill is something that can be tangibly improved with proper understanding of the golf impact laws and effective practice towards improved performance.
    External Focus of Attention
    Most golf teaching involves an internal focus. Common suggestions might include increased hip turn, a still head or improved hand path. These are all factors of the golf swing, which many golfers and teachers consider important. However, as they are focused internally, on movements of the body, golfers find changes extremely difficult to process.
    This tip was like a bomb going off in my brain...my key is what you said. Be loose with the hands and arms, and shorten the stance a wee bit. I was so wide with my irons..major Fattage....or thinski.. great advice thank you
    Excellent video Glen on how to avoid "casting" the golf club. I think this is the average golfers nemesis. I know it's mine! I have gone to a more lighter grip on the handle, loosened up the forearms and wrists and all of this seems to help. The only problem I'm having now is because of drought conditions here in Southern California, there are a lot of thin spots in the fairways. When presented with this type of lie, I am getting a lot of "fat" shots especially with higher lofted irons. It certainly is affecting my handicap. Good Job Glen! Always look forward to your videos and suggestions. And Yes, I am trying to be the best golfer that I can be. :-)
      Thank you for your kind words John.
      Those fat shots with your short irons are probably due to not achieving enough forward shaft lean.
      That’s where that late hit can really help, especially on your firm, dry fairways.
      Keep at it!
    Great tips as always
    Your tilt backwards and look at the back of the ball tip. I try to do this, but seem to end up with excessive shoulder tilt. The shot if you in this position seems to be More body tilt rather than shoulder
    I'll try to start getting more body tilt rather than shoulder
