That funky click sound is a notification that an NPC has been alerted to your presence. Use it to your advantage.
Yeah, I realized that during my story mode playthrough stream the other day. Kinda nice to have audio notfication after being detected
"stay alert" - proceeds to get blasted 2.4 seconds later lol, the videos are good man, definitely enjoying them
Aye, glad to hear it brother
The one absolutely essential gear piece is a purple holster (or gold if you have the Div Tech). The reason is that it is the one piece that has all 3 attributes (electronics, firepower, health). You should always craft that before going against a Hunter.
Noted
For Survival, I prefer health on 4 pieces and firepower on 2. I don't use electronics much. But funny story... I was running with a buddy (we were both grizzled Survival veterans) and he was bored. So he kept dropping all gear pieces for me and he collected ALL electronics. Then he made a turret. We came across 3 gold heavies. I ran for cover. He dropped his turret and took cover. Those heavies ran for cover! I couldn't believe it. Funniest thing I ever saw in The Division.
I think my last run, I did 2 health and 1 firepower. I seem to never have enough stuff to craft a full set of gear mods
Once you play this enough, you'll develop 2-3 favorite runs per quadrant and know what kind of gear to expect and what enemies. The only exception to this is the northeast quadrant. You will never spawn there and you'll only go there if you have a really crowded session and everything has been stripped. I forget why you never spawn there. I think its because the enemies are too tough.
Interesting. This game, the game mode, and the map itself is extremely new to me so I'm not 100% on what I'm doing right or wrong, and have no idea where I am or loot are.. which I suppose is the "fun" in it because it's basically blind runs every time. I might lose interest once I know everything.. either way, I'm enjoying now while playing blind lol
So that place that you extracted from (I forgot the name), if you want the highest chance to kill the Hunter, fire the flare gun, then go back down the scaffolds and go up a zip line across the street and snipe the Hunter. You'll have a 75% chance of getting out. Once you get used to fighting the Hunters, you can get up close and personal.
This is actually a good strat, but my last 2 videos I recorded right after this one.. well.. I got up close and personal lol
@@FrankTastic LOL ya, it was entertaining. I remember fighting a Hunter in close with my brother. Of course when there are 2 Hunters, they can get more agressive. Anyway I was within a couple of feet and the Hunter pulled out his axe (you ARE going to die for sure!). He swung and ended up downing my brother. Kind of a strange glitch that the Hunter targets a player and his axe swing won't hit anyone else. And yes, I did end up extracting.
Oooooo, you got a purple drop early. Wow, that is lucky. In theory, you could extract in the DZ off that purple weapon. Note that once you are in the DZ farming, most weapon drops will be purple.
Yeah, I realized as I got closer to the DZ.. tougher enemies with higher loot drops.. and even stronger enemies with even better gear in the DZ
You can shoot those electric wall units and it will shock NPCs and players for a couple of seconds, which can turn the tide. I had to use that only a handful of times in probably 300 survival runs.
Noted
You are definitely in competition to get to landmarks and the crash sites with other players. In the old days, players would rush quickly to the crash site very under powered. If they survived, they got the good gear. Otherwise they'd start up a new Survival session. So it will be a balance between risk and speed always. I think I remember 20+ agents in one session. Now that is competition.
I played Survival Mode years ago.. 7.. years.. ago.. so I def remember high number of players but these days I don't remember anything about the game AND the max I've seen in a lobby is 8
@@FrankTastic When you get bored, do PvP. Then your goal is to down all the other players before getting into the DZ. I mistakenly got into PvP on one of my first solo runs (after having run with a veteran for a while). I didn't know until at the extraction, I was fighting my Hunter and this seeker comes out of no where. I ended up killing my Hunter (I think he killed the other dude), and got out only because I had one candy bar.
Take any meds you can as soon as you get them (including the safehouse). The only exception to this is if you run with a buddy (HIGHLY recommended). In that case, the person with the least time left should take the meds.
Unsure if I would ever do this in co-op, but I'll keep in mind about taking meds asap
Co-op is the best way to raise your chances of getting out (for anyone else reading these comments). When you are newbs, you run together. As you get comfy, you split up on routes and come back to rez your buddy (you have 5 minutes after they are downed). Then join up going into the DZ.
There is a pill and one material in each starting safehouse. Its not usually worth going from one starting safehouse to another (it delays you entrance to the DZ). Interior safehouses are fine - they are not the ones on the edges.
So avoid edge safehouse, got it
I actually didn't know there was a difference
Ya, my terminology isn't quite right. I remembered the term hideout after watching your vid.
So the reason that you want to get to the DZ in PVE mode, is that players farm the limited DIv Tech and that is what you use to craft gold gear and weapons. So it can be in short supply. I think I used to extract wearing 6 gold gear pieces and a gold weapon. When I got better, I'd try to extract with blue gear and blue weapon. Now THAT is really a challenge.
I think my video I released a few days ago (I was even more of a noob in that one) I think I extracted with blue gear? Feel free to check that one out if you haven't already buddy! You might get some laughs from me not knowing wtf I'm doing lol
@@FrankTastic I did see you do something like that. That was pretty impressive.
You can pick up and equip with one keystroke - this will save your life in survival. Don't go to your menus to do this.
Yeah, I actually record another video right after this one that I am currently editing and I realized there was a button for it (still trying to remember the buttons)
Drink something! It will make loot very very visible. Very handy when competing against other players.
YES! Again, my most recent run (video coming soon) I actually used the drinks / food a bit more properly compared to here lol
Going into a safehouse gives you 100% health instantly. So if you are beat up, look for one before engaging.
I actually did not know that
Hunters are the direct counter to the players so they are always gonna be hard to take down solo
I kept playing after recording this video, and I crafted a weapon that killed a hunter in 2 shots 👀
Be careful about the northwest entrance to the DZ. I forgot what the name of that area is, but there are a lot of gold NPCs there before you get into the DZ.
Affirm
So in my experience, drinking water in a landmark isn't very useful. The loot is usually dense and can be found. Use it when you are traversing new territory.
Yeah, again I actually did this a bit better in my more recent run (video coming soon)
You can warm up by burning cars, but if you get too close, it will set you on fire. The barrels are safe.
Haven't caught on fire yet lol
The Custom M44 (gold) is the weapon of choice to use against the Hunters. I *think* the purple can do it but at 3 shots instead of 2 (might be wrong on that).
Oooh.. I think that's the weapon I crafted in my last run (video coming soon) and yeah, first time using it.. didn't expect to kill the hunter in like 2 shots.
@@FrankTastic You can also call your extract, kill your Hunter, then go around and help kill other Hunters for other players. I also got in the habit of dropping my Flare Gun before getting on the heli just to help anyone else. And no, I didn't play PvP but a small number of times
Craft the suppressor as soon as you can. Once you make it too far into the game, you can no longer do this (I forgot why). Its the only accessory you need for your weapons.
Oh, I remember. The suppressor is not available to craft except at the outer edge safehouses. That's why.
I think its the Omega rifle suppressor. Oh, ya, the extended magazine too (but it can be crafted from deeper safehouses. Both should be on you before you go into the DZ. Wow, its been 7-8 years since i ran Survival.
I do love suppressors
You can craft a med kit! You might have to do it to save a downed buddy.
Yeah, I realized that.. also get a medkit when you craft the extra medkit pouch
Food will boost you 1/3 health. Use it only when you are at least that much down. Use them instead of med kit.
jesus christ, you left alot of comments lol I'ma need a minute to read through all of them but appreciate the tips so far!
NONE of the gold weapon attachments will make much difference. But that extended magazine and omega suppressor from the light zone is what you want going into the DZ.
I was actually kinda noticing the "lower" tier attachments seemed better, depending on what you were going for.
@@FrankTastic Ya, unless you are overflowing with Div Tech, I wouldn't craft any weapon attachments. Bring 'em with you into the DZ. Kinda funny that a green extended mag would be the best thing.
Except for your first hat/scarf, don't craft clothes. You should get them to drop from NPCs. You can tell if a dropped clothing item is better than the one you have on from the chevrons pointing up (yay!) or down (boo!) when looking at the drop.
The reason is that you can break down the fabric and turn it blue and then gold in the DZ and you need that for gold gear pieces. Otherwise you have to farm Div Tech in the DZ (which you should also do).
I am aware about the arrows but I didn't know you could break down clothing pieces, thought only you could do that with gear / weapons
@@FrankTastic Ya I don't think you get anything from clothes.
That chevron tip is hugely important. You'll know instantly if something is better than what you have.
You should break down all your extra gear and then move all your green materials to blue. You will need to do this now or later, so it isn't wasted time.
Yeah, I started doing that in my recent runs. Didn't realize it mattered too much during this video
You should open med bags even if you are full. It will leave them on the ground and you will deny other players access to them.
Other players can't pick it up? Even with it on the ground? Interesting
@@FrankTastic I'm a little hazy on that. I can't remember. I know that if you die, everything drops. I know that you can drop stuff for your buddy. I don't know if its available for others. Also this might change between PvE and PvP mode. If you figure it out for sure, let me know.
Garages always have 2-3 NPCs in them
Noted
Pay attention to whether a gear piece is electronic, firepower, or health. I have deconstructed electronic purple gear and kept inferior blue health gear on.
I do become somewhat confused about the gear and stuff.. which is a reason why I hate gear score systems in games. I just don't understand it
All DZ entrances have a diamond on the map. It is NOT enough to come up against any part of the wall/fence/entrance of the DZ border. I think that there are only a few entrances (maybe 6? its been too long).
idk why it took me forever to realize that lmao
Seeker mines are woefully underpowered. Almost useless. And if you use offensive skills against a Hunter, he will hijack them on the spot and attack you with your own skill. Turrets are mildly useful - mostly because they can distract an enemy while you get into cover. If you run all electronics gear, the turret can be powerful. But again, useless against a Hunter.
I like the heal gadget thing, saved my life lol
You will get less and less time from pills/meds the more you take. Nothing can make that better. I think the longest I ever went was 2 hours (got to see the sun rise in the DZ before extracting)
interesting.. I might try to see how long I can last in a survival session before either extracting or dying
There should be a commendation for it but there isn't. You should play Survival until you can catch the sunrise in the DZ. You WILL be closely watching your medical timer. You'll need almost a perfect game. Its fun to try.
You want Survival Caches not so much Gear Caches. When you kill a boss in the DZ, you'll get one of them.
What's the difference? I just open / sell the loot from them anyways considering once I'm done with my story mode playthrough, I'm just moving on to Division 2. I may only stick around in Division 1 for more Survival mode.. I've become addicted
@@FrankTastic Much better stuff out of Survival Caches. I completely maxed out my Division 1 and Division 2 characters, so I understand. Survival is unique IMHO and I have considered coming back to just play that.
@@amazotron3471 It's fun.. maybe more fun for me since it's blind runs every time compared to someone who knows everything but I'm def gonna be making more content on Survival Mode alone, even after I've moved onto Division 2.
I wouldn't fight bosses in the DZ unless I had all purple gear and weapons (or better).
Yeah, makes sense lol
Yes, this is my personal world record for posting comments on a YT video.
I see lol Regardless, I appreciate the tips. Some of the things you said, I actually figured out later on by myself but still unsure about alot of the other stuff. Again, I did record multiple videos back to back so the next 1 to 2 videos may not have all these tips used in them.. but whatever I record from THIS point forward, will def being using these tips.
Ha, made me laugh. I think I had more than 5000 hours in this game.
I have like 50 hours... if that lol
LOL you NEED to learn to move cover-to-cover when under fire. It is MUCH faster and the NPCs will miss more bullets. Just sayin.
Yeah, tbf I keep forgetting what keybind I have cover-to-cover is since I can't see the button on walls in survival lol and sometimes, the character either doesn't get on the wall as I attempt to OR goes to the wrong side. I'm still learning simple game mechanics
@@FrankTastic I think there is a way to target your move if you are already in cover. Your cursor reveal which side of your destination you will end up in. But its true, even when you instinctively do this, every once in a while, you'll end up somewhere surprising, usually in the heat of a battle (ie, against a Hunter).
