    Hey Visio, for the zr1 corvette, there are models that had upwards of 410 hp out of the factory. There were two different models of head that those came with. I have a 1995 zr1 with 410 hp from the factory, mainly because they got more power out of it through the later years, and there was a shortage of Dunn heads in 1995 which forced them to get another head manufactured. The new head gave the motor a better air to fuel mixture resulting in more power. Also, the top speed is 192 mph.
    Just thought I'd throw it out there for you, some food for thought!

    Asking Lotus, the legendary chassis designer to build you an engine is a bit like asking Gordon Ramsay to design you a shoe. Lotus didn't gain their reputation off their engines! They just asked Cosworth!

      The Dodge Omni was a rebadge/redesign from the European Talbot/Chrysler Horizon.
      The Talbot Sunbeam is not the same model however, altough it looks very similar.
      In the 1970's the British Rootes Group (Hillman, Sunbeam, Talbot and Humber being some of the brands) was in financial crisis, and was taken over by Chrysler.
      Chrysler dropped some of the brands, and some, like Sunbeam were used as a type designation rather than a brand, like on the Talbot Sunbeam.
      This car was developed after the take over with British government funding to keep the Linwood plant open, and introduced on the market in 1977. (follow up for the Hillman Avenger)
      The Chrysler/Simca/Talbot Horizon was designed after the French Simca factory was also taken over by Chrysler Europe, it came on the market in 1978, it's engineering was done by Simca while the design came from the British Chrysler headquarters. (Follow up for the Simca 1100)
      It was even car of the year in 1978!, altough we now remember it as a very poorly built car, which quickly vanished from the streets as rot took it's toll (like many other contemporary cars of that time)
      It was only sold under Chrysler branding in the UK and Simca in Europe in the first year, as the French PSA (Peugeot and Citroën) bought Chrysler Europe in 1978, thereafter that car was sold as Talbot Horizon.
      The Dodge Omni ( and Plymouth Horizon) were based on the European Horizon, but redsigned, they had Mc Pherson instead of torsion bar front suspension, different larger engines (VW, PSA and Chrysler) and almost nothing of the body panels was interchangable as well, so they were essentialy a different model.
      It stayed a own model for Chrysler USA after Chrysler Europa was sold to PSA.
      The main difference between the Talbot Horizon/Dodge Omni and Talbot Sunbeam however is that the first 2 have FWD while the latter one has RWD.
      This story is a bit complicated, and it was!

    You missed one. The Isuzu Impulse.
    "General Motors, who owned nearly half of Isuzu, also owned Lotus Cars at the time. Lotus selected the 1.6 L engine and transmission from the Isuzu Gemini for the Lotus Elan M100 and a following generation of that engine eventually ended up in the Impulse. Lotus was subcontracted by Isuzu to fine-tune the suspension of the Impulse, through selection of stiffer dampers, larger sway bars, and softer springs. All of the second generation Impulses had the Lotus-tuned suspension."

    So thats why the C4 ZR1 Corvette has DOHC and 32Valves, it's totally not chevy's style to do something like this. So naturally I was wondering how something like this happened.

    • @hoghogwild
      @hoghogwild 8 лет назад +2

      It was actually GM's first DOHC injected V8. The 4.6/4.0 32 valve DOHC Northstar folloed a couple years later(and lasted a lifetime until about 2009 or so. That LT5 in the 1990-92 ZR-1 was rated at 375hp/370 lb/ft torque, the 1993-1995 LT5 sported 405hp/385lb/ft torque. These cars destroyed the Ferrari Testarossa for a 1/3 the price. Ticking the ZR1 option box pretty much doubled the price of the C4 Corvette. Many guys were paying over $100,000 for the first of the ZR-1's, of which there were.3,032 made for 1990.1990=30321991-20441992-5031993=4481994=4481995-448 Total of 6922 over 6 model years. All of the engines were manufactured by the end of 1992 when it was decided that the ZR1 would be cancelled. They had a preservative squirted in the cylinders, they were sealed, wrapped and palleted and stored at Bowling Green until the cars were built of through 1992-1995.These engines feature 16 fuel injectors, 16 intake runners for upper rpm breathing, and ECU keeps half of them closed at low rpm, or when the Power Key(valet key) directs them to stay closed. The video states that 1/2 the 32 valves stop working, but all the valves work all the time. This limits output to roughly 250hp. The engine has a rev limit of 7200rpm which is great for a 350 cubic inch street engine. The ZR-1 Vettes are 3" wider at the rear to house the 17x11" rear rims with 315/35/zr17 tires.GM owned Chevrolet, and Lotus, Lotus designed the engine, Mercruiser MArine actually built the engine as GM itself had little experience with such aluminum work, while Mercruiser had lots of aluminum engine building experience.These cars can be had for really good prices right now. The actual engines are bulletproof, esp. the bottom end. It uses a 2 piece block that actually sandwiches the crank for ultimate stability and strength.Obviously the later years command higher prices, esp. a mint condition 95.

    What makes that Talbot really stand out that it's a hot hatch with RWD. Fun!

  • @FrogsterPL

    As far as I know, Aston Vanquish is actually capable of reaching 320 kph, but... on 5th gear. On 6th gear it goes indeed "only" 305 kph.
    Opel Lotus Omega had... Corvette ZR-1 gearbox. In that time, it was the only transmission in GM, that could handle the torque generated by that turbocharged 3.6 V6.
    And about Opel Speedster - it was also available with 2.2-litre, naturally-aspirated engine (which produced ~147 PS).
    Very good video, I didn't know about Dodge Spirit R/T!

    I love your videos, though. I did notice some error in the names. The Carlton is the Vauxhall Lotus Carlton. The Cortina is the Ford-Lotus Cortina and so on. The first name is the manufacturer the bodyshell belongs to and the second name is the supplier or manufacture of the engine. It's like Aston and Lola. Aston made the body and chassis, whilst Lola made the engine.

    Nice video dude (like all the others) ! Maybe you forget a recent Peugeot tuned by Lotus, which is a very good one but not so much expensive (perhaps not for a long time...) and appreciated in my country (I'm also french) : the Peugeot 206 RC, powered by a i4 N/A 2L 16v, 177hp @ 7000 RPM for a decent kerb weight of 1100 kg. Few years ago, I've tried one, and that was awesome !!!

      Good idea for a second video :) in fact, you're right for the 206, coz it was just a minor upgrade, only to the motor (the original S16/GTi give ~138hp). But lots of people (including car magazines) say that she's the true descendant of our "GTi superstar", the Peugeot 205 GTi. And one more time, thx your videos, nice work !

    From the reports at the time, the DMC-12 had been originally 'specced' with the ALFA Romeo 'Busso' V6, not a Ford product. ALFA backed out at the last minute, leaving Delorean 'in the lurch'...

    • @Candisa
      @Candisa 8 лет назад +1

      Shame for DMC they didn't get the magnificent Busso V6 instead of that PRV turd, but at least that means no Busso Alfa's were junked just to save a DeLorean...

    • @StephenWhite55
      @StephenWhite55 8 лет назад

      + Candisa I was thinking that it might make sense, to find a rusted-out GTV6 and transplant it's 'heart' into a DeLorean - it would re-create the DMC-12, as originally intended...

    • @Candisa
      @Candisa 8 лет назад

      Definitely, especially if that gtv6 is too far gone anyways, but if they would have put the Busso engine in it from the get go, a lot of salvageable nice Alfa's would have been junked just for their engine by now. I personally prefer seeing someone get an engine out of Volvo 760's and old Peugeots and Renaults than out of nice Alfa's. F.e. that Volvo is better off with a B230 engine over the PRV one anyways...

    The likeness of the Chrysler/Talbot Sunbeam to the Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon is uncanny... I guess Ma Mopar--much like GM with the T-car (Chevette/Pontiac 1000)--was mainly interested in having a car to counter-balance all others they produced at the time, in order to meet CAFE mandates. It's a shame the American Chevette never got all the build-up the European models did--including a 200hp DOHC 2.3L Lotus I-4 w/Weber side-draft carbs. But then, the Omni did get built-up--with Carroll Shelby's help--into the GLH & the GLHS w/turbo-intercooled Chrysler-built SOHC 2.2L I-4... and with the Mopar Performance turbo, injectors & "tuned" SMEC (Single Module Electronic/Engine Controller), they ran 12.20s in the 1/4-mile!

      back in the mid 80s this was true, but today their toyota derived engines and minimal construction means they are one of the msot reliable exotics you can buy. Lotus has never built a bad car in its history.

    The Lotus Omega was engineered by Lotus? Reaaaaaaaaaaally? That is amazing, how did you find out?

    • @VisioRacer
      @VisioRacer  8 лет назад

      The point was to show really cool cars that are not known as widely as you may think. Therefore your sarcasm is not relevant :)

    • @johnhaddndiggn5301
      @johnhaddndiggn5301 8 лет назад

      VisioRacer I get your point, so I _almost_ skipped the second sarcastic comment about it being a "really cool" car. It was a great performing car back in the days - as long it wasn't breaking down.
      Luckily the Lotus Omega did that only on rare occasions, didn't it? All the parts Lotus touched were reliable and sturdy and and hat no tendencies to fall apart every time you started the car and that's what Lotus has always been famous for. ;)
      But it indeed would have been a "really cool" car, if it would have been able to survive 100.000km without significant failures. The specs where superb and it even looked cool for an Opel/Vauxhall - and me saying that may sound like sarcasm, but this paragraph really isn't.

    • @VisioRacer
      @VisioRacer  8 лет назад

      You know, cars can be cool even without being reliable or durable.

    • @johnhaddndiggn5301
      @johnhaddndiggn5301 8 лет назад

      Depends. My car has to run 4-5k miles per month, so I'd prefer reliability - and luckily, there are cars that have power and are durable. ;)

    The under pinning for a Aston Martin cygnet is a Toyota IQ. Lotus had no influence on that car at all as it was destined to meet our strict emissions the law governs any car company to have a maximum co2 output over all models hence Aston Turning to an incredibly efficient IQ..it was also only available to current customers and cost £32,000 new.
