Fell in love with the beloved tyrant Mama Carlson when I was a child. Thank you so much for this window onto the beautiful and fascinating lady who gave her the spark of life.
I never knew much about Carol Bruce - had heard her on recordings but knew nothing of he personality. What a great lady! This interview makes me want to search out more Carol Bruce material!
Check out www.mymusicboutique.com for two rare CD's of her solo material. Also the Broadway cast album of "Do I Hear a Waltz". One of her rare movies, "Behind the Eight Ball" with the Ritz Brothers, is now out on DVD, as is her film with Abbott and Costello, "Keep 'em Flying".
I always thought she was so beautiful in Keep 'Em Flying, singing ,"I'm Getting Sentimental over you. I've been watching that movie since I was a little kid. I'm 64 now ad just watched that movie the other day. I hate the way this guy interviews. I would have asked her about how it was working with Abbot and Costello. Classy lady.
This opening is the very young Mickey Rooney as Puck from the 1935 film Midsummer Nights Dream. Thank you for posting this, what a delight to discover dear Carol at youtube. I fell into the 1936 film Showboat and suddenly thought of Carol who gained part of her fame as Julie in the Broadway revival of Showboat. My mother was her manager during the sixties and I still have a photo that she signed to me as her partner in crime because we collaborated on a Christmas gift for my mother. She was then living at the Gorham Hotel in Manhattan. Carol was a fantastic woman. Her daughter Julie and I were sent off to a Broadway Show together on one sort of date, Leonard Sillman;s New Faces of 1962. Included unknown Marion Mercer and husband and wife team Stiller & Meara. I last saw Carol in the 90's while visiting my mother who had also moved to Los Angeles. Carol only improved with age and was stunning to see, warm and loving as ever. Unfortunately because I lived abroad we lost contact. Sadly the internet is not only a place that now has revived the great talented people of an earlier age and brought them to new generations but also sadly it conveys information as I find out what happened to everyone I ever knew. And just now discovered Carol actually died 5 months after my mother and that Julie died quite young. Making this even more valuable. Thank you again.
I saw the wonderful Ms. Bruce recently in 'Behind the Eight Ball' (currently free on YT; search for The Ritz Brothers, and you should find it; that's how I stumbled upon it, being a looooooong-time Ritz Bros fan). I thought she looked familiar, so I checked the credits, saw 'Carol Bruce', and wondered if she could be the same Carol Bruce who plays Mama Carlson so brilliantly. And, she was. I enjoyed this interview, but only when she was allowed to speak. Too bad she had such a lousy interviewer. Would have been better if the Mama Carlson clip had been from the real KRP. The reboot is KRaP. Carol Bruce IS Mama Carlson. She made that role her own. RIP, dear Lady, and thanx so very much for the magic, music, and memories. Delightful singer, dancer, and actress. And, a lovely person.
I remember Carol Bruce playing Amanda Randolph on "Love of Life" circa 1969-1970. There was one episode where she was in bed, on the phone, and either talking to "Luther," or calling out for "Luther" to come into the room. She was also in an episode of the mid 80s reboot of "The Twilight Zone" and has an impressive IMDb listing.
Unless I missed it why did she replace the mother on wkrp? Because if you watch the original pilot of the show in 1978 there was a different lady who played mother Carlson and this lady appear in the middle of the first season
@@carolleslie517 hello and good morning Carol and how are you? I'm a big fan of the original wkrp show that ran from 1978-1982 4 seasons right? and I always wondered what happened to that lady and why she was replaced in the middle of the first season a show called mama's review? and I know that most shows do replace actors, example in Seinfeld during its 9 year run both Jerry's and George's fathers were replaced by a different actor lol or worse yet in the current shows I noticed that in the big bang theory there was a guest star that came on as lender's bully is now the father of Sheldon on the spin off young Sheldon
@@nloualden-cetrulo8927 helloand good Saturday morning sir I'm Peter from Hamilton Ontario Canada hope all is well? What I meant was why was she replaced with another actress just only doing the Piot episode of the original wkrp series and never continue on? But anyways I was just curious?
@@vassa1972 I wouldn't know but might have been the biggest mistake of her career....& she would have been good. However its difficult to imagine WKRP without Carol Bruce. She was excellent! Im a fan.

This guy has to be one of the worst interviewers ever. He talks over his guest and interrupts constantly. I wanted to hear more about WKRP, the real one, not the "New" on, which was terrible.

She was the featured female vocalist on the Al Jolson Colgate Tooth Powder Show for a short time in early 1943. Fine vocalist.
She was so beautiful when she was younger. Loved her on WKRP. Too bad she was only in 10 episodes.
I love Carol Bruce as the brash Mrs.Carlson. She intimidates me on WKRP.
What an extraordinary talent!
"I will not live int he past" - great woman, great life. The interviewer is also one for the ages - lordy lord.

Fantastic interview Alan! A rarity to see this wonderful lady speak of her career.
Oh my God, add 100 pounds, and this interviewer is SO Jiminy Glick!
He must have inspired Martin Short. He's much too spot on.

She provided the voice of The Old One in 'Land before journey through The Mist'
The interviewer talking over her is driving me crazy. Jabber, jabber.

now i know who martin short styled jiminy glick after. this guy is so annoying to listen to. had to stop almost half way through.

peter papadimitriou Sylvia Sidney was the first Mama C but she thought WKRP wasn't going anywhere, imagine that!

Yeah, Martin Short/Glick was definitely channeling Skip. Carol Bruce was classy. But of course Skip plays the clip of the terrible new wkrp. Clueless.
Fantastic lady.... Interviewer sucks, he is rude . And obnoxious.
Jiminy glick???😅
She's delightful, but I can't stand the interrupting!
Her English accent disappeared
so Skip is a guy right?
