Today a 5 year update of my Vostok Amphibia 710059, also known as the Scuba Dude. It has been a journey full of ups and downs. I've modded it more to my liking, including a brushed case tops, different bezel and also longer seconds hand.
I am still looking for a longer minute hand, so if anyone knows of one that looks like stock, please let me know.
The Amphibia is a legend among watch lovers due to it's archaic construction and materials as well as cheap price, but it is true to itself.
I personally love it and it will stay in my collection for another 5 years
It shows they recognized my love for watches and I'm happy to see they appreciate watch lovers vs. flippers!!

Vostok are simply, reliable, easy and cheap to fix or replace. Their charm is based mostly on unchanged philosophy of making things and how they should be done and work and mechanical solutions which are still good enough to last for another decades... Just like Zippo lighters.
I have bronze, 1967 anniversary edition with green dial (no digits) bought few years ago and I love it! Mine is working about +15 sec per 24h...

My Scuba dude is on a bracelet and I exclusively swim with it (goes with all of my swim trunks) after I get out of the pool or beach I put the watch in a solution that is in a container that erodes the salt and/or chlorine. Set it up before you leave so when you walk in the door you can just set it in the cleaning solution. Works for me brother.

I have an Amphibia and Komandirski still love both - both still have a place in my 60 watch collection. Been eyeing an Amfibia (with the F for a few years too).
Funny thing is that once a watch hits a huge fanfare and EVERYONE owns or wants one it is actually a turn off for me: i.e. Scuba Dude version, San Martin exploring style watches (I have another San Martin just not that one), moonswatch, Seagull 1963 Chinese airforce watch - I like the ST19 movement but can't get behind this version (I will however get a different watch with the ST19).
I just gotta be that little bit different I guess 🤷‍♂️.

Thank you! Vostok - is the best! Respect from Russia! Many interesting technical solutions are used in this watch (if you are interested, see my review in Russian). Sometimes the quality is not the best. But it mostly refers to the build quality. For example, before using in water, it is sometimes necessary to check that the back cover is fully screwed on. At this price, there is no other fully manufactured watch with its glorious history and original designs on the world market!
Although, in my opinion, this is not the best dial design.

The jump of the seconds hand is just because of some slack or play in the gears, i wouldn't call it a system;). Also the main reason for the crown's disengagement was to allow it to still be screwed down after fully winding the watch. I have an amphibia 170548 of my own and also love it to death.

I've owned expensive watches and Vostok Amphibia is my favorite. I prefer the crown and case design and the movements are 31 jewels and they are great. The dials are not perfect, hour markers a little off and lume markers can be off center as well. Get one with a printed dial and only the lume markers may be a little off but not the hour markers. Even that isnt as big of a deal since a lot of watches don't even have hour or min markers but it makes me want to turn my nose up at them, i've tried and i can't help it i still love the Vostok Amphibia.

I used to have two original once and still I have one now. It's not original as those two. I guess it was made somewhere in the middle 70s. It's not auto, you have to wind it manually

My grandfather had 2 Vostoks and 1 Raketa watch. The first two died relatively quickly since they were what they were - soviet junks. Third one - the Raketa seems to held it the most, it is still alive or what's left of it, I am to restore this watch and give it to my uncle as he is the rightful owner that should inherit it.
I never liked soviet watches or anything soviet in this regard due to personal reasons. I was not born during the communistic days of my home but I know soviet junk all to well.
In the end my dad bought my grandad a Casio watch (it looked like the A-158WA-1Q) and that's that. He threw the Raketa at the drawer and never thought about it, plus he was always giving it a hard time since it was so inaccurate. I think all 3 of them had either similar or the same movement. Regardless I hold no nostalgia for anything soviet, so AFAIC in my eyes they remain a soviet junk, makes me wonder what westerners see in them...
BTW congratulations on the Schengen event. Go Croteam! I am almost envious of you guys and the way you handled your progress. I hope we - your neighbors can learn from your example and make this region of Europe even better.
