It's not. Btw Biden wrote that bill, too. Biden wrote the precursor to the Patriot Act in 1994. He has repeatedly stated this and expressed how proud he was the the Patriot Act was essentially the bill he wrote for the 1995 Counterterrorism Omnibus bill.

@@user-xu6bv7yh2joooo sorry but you're still wrong. Biden not only voted for the 2001 Patriot Act, he, on many occasions, claimed credit for writing it.
"I drafted a terrorism bill after the Oklahoma City bombing," Biden was quoted as saying by the New Republic in 2001.
"And the bill John Ashcroft sent up was my bill," Biden continued, referring to the Patriot Act. The act broadened the surveillance capabilities of U.S. law enforcement agencies as it relates to identifying potential terrorists, and many of its provisions have been opposed by liberal Democrats and civil libertarians.
It wasn't the first time Biden took credit for the Patriot Act . On Meet the Press that same year, he made similar comments referring to the Omnibus Counterterrorism Act of 1995.
"I introduced the terrorism bill in '94 that had a lot of these things in it," Biden again said.
"The devil's in the details. For example, you talked about the Internet. We can get a (inaudible), we can go now, if you are in the mob, and we can find out who you called -- not the content of the conversation. We can get your telephone log. Well, they want to be able to get essentially that log off the Internet."
"It depends on -- the difference here is whether just getting what web sites you hit and the content of what you got," he continued. "You hit amazon, that's OK. They want to find out what books you read, that's not OK. So the devil's in the details here, and we're working those through."
On another occasion in 2002, when the FBI director was testifying before Congress, Biden said not only that he wrote the 1994 act, but Attorney General John Ashcroft called him to say it was basically the same as the bill they were introducing.
"Civil libertarians were opposed to it," Biden said. "Right after 1994, and you can ask the attorney general this, because I got a call when he introduced the Patriot Act. He said, 'Joe, I'm introducing the act basically as you wrote it in 1994.'"
"It was defeated then not by any liberals," added Biden. "It was defeated then by the folks who were worried we'd have the Minutemen, would get in trouble. By the Mr. Barr's of the world, who were worried about the right-wing, not anything else. That has nothing to do with you all, but just to set the record straight. Almost the same thing that got passed, the Patriot Act, was introduced by me in 1994, and it was the right-wing that defeated it. You guys tried to help get it passed, including the wiretap changes and the rest."

A lot of Americans these days use VPNs for anonymity and/or security. VPNs work by making your IP address seem to come from somewhere other than where you are. Some people use VPNs to harmlessly watch shows or buy products that may be banned in a country by having the VPN seem like it originated in the non-banned country. This is where a lot of Americans are going get caught up in it because a lot of people are using VPNs now. They may be Americans but their IP addresses look to be from other countries. I don't trust the FBI to worry about the difference.

The argument for authorizing wide collection without a warrant for each instance is firstly that the Constitution’s stipulation does not apply in this context - but does in a subset of cases of _looking at_ data - and secondly that the requirement would interfere with operations preventing harm (e.g., terrorist attacks).
The second consideration is different from law enforcement operations concerned with punitive rather than preventative measures.
One might disagree with the assessment, but to dismiss it out of hand rather than seriously weighing it were callow.
This is all the more so with _commercial_ surveillance being so pervasive! One might get so distracted by worry over the mole hill as to ignore the mountain.

Your memory may be faltering. Remember the Patriot Act, when they asked us to please allow some flexibility in our civil liberties and subject ourselves to arbitrary searches and frisks to help them protect us? "Just one year," they said, "and then it goes away. We really need your help," they said. 1 year later these fkers ratified it as a permanent installation. And, now, here you are, giving credence to the ever-expanding notion that the further infringement of our civil liberties should be allowed in the name of "for our own good."
      Ridiculous.
A "FREE SOCIETY" means that we live without the surveillance state watching our every move, listening to our conversations, monitoring our whereabouts, and spying on our online activities. Is there risk? YES! And, that is the nature of freedom.

@@user-mw9yh4cu2i well actually, Biden wrote a bill in 1994 for the 1995 Counterterrorism Omnibus Bill but the Clinton administration said it was too extreme. It was later used as the basis for the Patriot Act. Biden has bragged about this on numerous occasions and the author of the Patriot Act has even said they essentially used Biden's bill to draft the Patriot Act. Bush approved a Biden bill.

What is the name or identifying for that particular law? it seems like a attack of our constitutional rights heard congress silently past bill, they deflected our attention on other issues. Example: the United States of Israel, It's truly time for Term Limits understand the legislative branch are mainly a large percentage of them are older wealthy caucasian males, whom have nothing in common with the average citizens of this country they use tactics like economic standing, ethnicity, religion, politics to keep the citizens ununified in order to keep their power and control over the masses. They are there to serve the wealth, the corporations, the lobbyists the ones who buy them and pay them do as they say. Congress placed term limits on the executive branch of government in the 50s they said it gave the president to much power to serve more than 2 terms, the issue applies to them, especially the career politicians to much power, terms limits for the legislative branch term limits for the judicial branch it will give the citizens security that they are not own by those by ones whom pays for their campaigns. Time for a change.
