She's a one trick pony, this is all she has to joke about, it's all she sees. Comedians can travel the world and make jokes about their experiences or joke about the things they observe everyday, home or anywhere, but Wanda will always talk about race and nothing else. Food and race, travel and race, family and race, clothes and race. She injects race into everything.
@@joanfregapane8683 this has been her schtick since she first started doing standup. Hence, what she became famous for... wasn't standup. (nor her talk show, nor her writing...) I'd like to like her, hence, here giving it another chance but the real problem isn't the topics in her act but it's so hamfisted and she lacks a sense of humour herself (truly). Gina Yashere can speak of similar and yet it comes off as authentic, not condescending... Sam Jay, too. Probably because they didn't make their careers as closet cases. Ms Sykes might had been in a glass closet but a closet all the same and she hid other aspects of her life, with sneers at the community at large. Cut from a cloth similar to Ellen and a personality to match, but never "publicly" successful enough to suffer the fallback when truth came to light... instead she was just quietly shuffled around, tho still being grossly overpaid for being a corporate industry, executive, henchwoman. . . and treated like a shero when she came out, did a few psas, long after it was easy to do. Even Marsha Warfield was out in her standup, even if few people knew from her appearances on Night Court. The same with Nell Carter being a well known bisexual in the theatre crowd and open in her activism, even if private in in personal life, and few people aware of those only familiar with her actress, but still she didn't jeer, didn't keep a safe distance, again long before it was safe or coming out could be used for publicity, awards from organizations like glaad which sold itself out to celebrity more than people, community, cause. Or maybe I'm just bitter. Wouldn't bother me so much, I suppose, if it seemed like she had talent to match how she became such a popular show writer and producer except for choosing to be a corporate crony token when many more authentic and talented weren't even given the chance. She's had too many chances and it falls flat... the low end of middling at best.
