Lilium's 6 +1 passenger capability speaks the best to me as far as the air-taxi business model goes. Price for a ride will be the determining factor for B2B and an aircraft that can carry more people will have the better chance of being full for more flights due to lower fares. It looks like Lilium intends to roll out a 16-passenger model that take up nearly no more footprint space than does the seven-seater. Can Joby manage that? The extra 50mph of cruising speed won't overcome a Lilium ride at 78% of that velocity at half the cost when the flight already represents maybe 20% of the ground taxi travel time.
Lilium is by far the most appealing look, holds up to 6 passengers & pilot, but their compromise vs sound polution, resulted in too many heavy small engines, using a single row & diameter blades per engine, made it very slow, more drag, running like a 'verticle glider,' which contradicts the flight craft concept use. Heh, why not add a chamber of mini afterburner fuel pipes, for high altitude and distance flight.
@@ckdigitaltheqof6th210 No, no, no! Lilium, you have it all backwards! Ducted fans are 40% more efficient than open propellers. That allows the use of smaller, lighter motors that contribute less drag. Lilium's motors are also in-line, so again, lower drag and the airflow across the wing increases lift, though only a small amount. As far as noise goes, ducted fans produce less of it mostly because the noise is in-line with the motors, not radiating in all directions. The smaller ducted fans do produce much higher frequencies than does the Joby aircraft but high frequencies do not travel far, low ones do, and that's what the Joby produces. Lastly, the overall drag on the LIlium is less due to the thrust vectoring, which can control the craft in cruse without control surfaces, which work by adding drag. Both designs fly and both can be viable, but in the world of passenger transport, which is the ONLY business case for these at this point, Lilium wins.
@@michaelisaacson9735 🙄 ...😏well we would definatly like to be asured of that, since other have posted a differing perfomance status, then again, ironically its exactly what your also saying about this product. compared.
i am going to bet on lilium, biggest capacity of passenger, heck i can even vision itself taking over short haul hopping journeys for off shore oil drill platforms, search and rescue, paramedic/fire/police, island hopping or sightseeing tours. The problem is range, as 280km is a bit too short for my opinion, a go and back radius of 500km (single straight journey 1000+ km)
At 02:00 , the debate with Wisky & Archer, both need modifications with the rear propellers of the main wings, eighter use a reverse dimention position of the front wing engines&blade with a close to blades neck pivit, (avoiding short ground blade height) - or - during horizontal fly, revert the rear blades angle pitch switched, turn 90° and turn back on. This will increase velocity of horizontal travel across lands.

Lilium is way ahead of anyone else. They are just as commited to assist in developing new a/c standards and routes with the FAA. they lead the pack in technology development.
Very good and informative .... I think Vertical has solid partnerships on the technology side + UK DoD + leasing companies & airlines ... Interesting would be to know the defense element / application of these plaforms
Further it’s also imp to run the sums related to total cost of ownership for a buyer say for 5 years, how much would servicing cost incl. the cost of overhauling the power plant and transmission. So when they say it would cost 40 usd for a ride I would be careful ... if possible do you have access to cost roll up calculation from the OEMs or which you have have worked out .. above said definitely this industry looks promising ... and does Elon musk / naval Ravikant have a view on this ? ?
Joby has the clear all around advantage and it's far ahead of all of them. Also, latest tests show that Joby is far quieter than Lillium. Lullium sounds like a jet plane where Joby sound very quiet at a lower more plesant frequency. Joby plans to delever their first production aircraft early next year.
Lillium is the only feasible technology to yield in a "large" scale transport. These things won't be able to replace city taxis. They just won't. Think about it for a second. They will rather extend the existing air transport to final destination or closer to the final destination for the most part. Especially realistic once solid state batteries scales up .Lillium's design is the only one that can do it safely in masses. Open propeller design compromises safety in large scale implementation. High winds, adverse weather, birds, anyone who can cast a hefty stone and happen to have bad intentions for any reason are some to start with.
According to Vertical Aerospace's slide deck, Joby would have positive revenue in 2027 however, they will have negative cash flow. This is because Joby business model is B2C (business to customer). Meaning, Joby plans to operate its own passenger network rather than selling its jets to other carriers (B2B or business to business model). The benefit of B2C is higher return on investment, but delayed payback. Hence the negative cash flow in the initial years of operation. Benefits of B2B (is the primary business model of Vertical Aviation, Lilium and Archer) is immediate payback, but likely at a lower return on investment. I will discuss these concepts in my next video. Subscribe to not miss it. Thanks for watching!
