They absolutely should! This was such a unique and beautiful piece of Seattle history and contribution to the arts. The fact that they discontinued it is a crime against the arts. I've heard nothing but bad things about the current version
This is my favorite version of The Nutcracker. My mom bought me the tape in the 80’s and let me tell you, when it got stuck and broke in the VCR 15 yrs later I cried. I was so happy when I found it on Netflix and then I bought myself the dvd just in case. It’s so beautiful and brings back so many wonderful memories for me.
Its not just that it was a film. Its not just Patricia and Wade and Maia that made this special. Although they were phenomenal and who I grew up on. The choreography of this, staging, costumes. There is something special in this production that hits my heart and have felt it for almost 40 years. No other production feels or looks like this. Clara actually dances here, ughh I will always be happy this lives on forever on film. ❤️🎄💐👏
You're lucky to have seen it when you did because just a year later it was discontinued! Absolute shame that they did that and a crime against the arts
it's a shame they replaced this with the balanchine version. not mad, just sort of sad. this version was so unique--set artwork by Maurice Sendak, the addition of the masque sequence that connects to clara's dream at the top of the show, and just the sort of creepy but warm friendliness from drosselmeyer that the balanchine one lacks (in that, he's just an artist who sometimes makes weird faces). oh well, the costumes were getting old, and everyone's doing balanchine, so i guess it makes sense.
Arizona Jonson , I agree. Iam trying to see if there is a DVD version of it. It was so unique and creative. Go to NYC to see NYCB do the Balanchine version, is what I say.
This looks really good; the scenery, the costumes, and most importantly the music and dancing; it's amazing! I might be going to Seattle this winter with my family, so I hope to see this live for the first time!
wish i could see you guys perform! you have the most wonderful dancers. i'd come watch them dance ANYTHING. if i ever go to seattle, i would most definitely plan it around one of you shows! and try to take a class :)
@Princeofthesea89 Our mouse king is gigantic, but only has one head, and there is a pretty Pirlipat that gets bitten by a rat and turned into an ugly girl! So he did include some of those nuances.
People have used face paint and other things for years to portray different races and even genders in production and it's not a hateful thing. This was a very beautiful version of the nutcracker and it is a crime against the arts that they discontinued it
PNB had such a great unique Nutcracker! I wish they would ditch the Balanchine version and go back to this one!

You can also find it on Blu-ray! But I'm glad you have the DVD ❤️
i just love that clara actually gets to dance in this one and not be pushed aside for the whole second act like usual

Agreed it’s more like the Russian Nutcrackers and even the Royal Ballet and San Francisco version
Just saw this tonight. PNB's Nutcracker is absolutely magical. I am filled with a nostalgic awe ♥

Yeah Peter Boal is a villain. All I have now is the dvd of the movie

Returning to this because it doesn’t perpetuate racist stereotypes like most traditional Nutcracker’s
