If I ended up on an island and could only listen to one band the rest of my life, it would be Tool. And I’ve already listened to most of their music for 20 + years. Just cant hear it enough
“The song is rather sophomoric… almost like a dick joke. I can do better.” - Maynard talking about Lateralus. I still rank it very, very high up on my favorite Tool songs, possibly the top, regardless of what he says.
As my spiritual self deepens I feel as though I am still decoding this song like 12 years after the first time I heard them. This song is about Maynards spiritual journey.
Melody. It's beautiful. Rhythm is also beautiful - Tool really embraced the classical south Indian beats in their music. Sooner or later others will catch on.
I see so many reactions to TOOL. My favorite band ever!! Plus Im an old Hip Hop head from the late 80s onwards. I just love how you just LISTEN. Thats all thats needed. No disection or over the top commentry. Just Feel it. Brilliant. So much more to unlock with TOOL. hope you guys delve into it more and thoroughly. Its so worth it if you thought this track was a mind orgasm. Get ready coz thete is so many more.
So cool to relisten to one of my favorite songs with you two hearing it for the first time and having like a new dimension to music open up, like it did for me! One thing I love about Tool is they do these really intricate patterns and arrangements, and explore some abstract spiritual concepts, but it never feels like they're trying to impress you with that, or losing the music in the details and the abstract. It feels real and honest and human-it has heart!
song is about pushing the envelope of art or discovery and keep trying for perfection, he says he reaches for whatever bewilders him and wants to go where no one has been, he wants to swing on the spiral of divinity and still be a human, the song itself references the Fibonacci sequence, or the golden ratio a spiral shape seen thorough nature imo to refer to evolution and things constantly refining themselves to be stronger, which is the goal with a lot of tools music, to help find strength when going through different complex psychological issues, such as death of a parent, birth of children, depression, relationship troubles etc. Swing on the spiral to me means keep refining yourself, keep striving to be better, find divinity in your mortal shell.
Saw them in Edmonton back in 2002. Awesome live. On a side note lost this cd when I scrapped my Alero and forgot it was in the dvd player. Like to add I also lost Disturb's Down with the sickness when I traded in my Nissan. Thank god cars no longer have cd players.
There's plenty of great studio songs from Tool but if you truly want to get lost in a song I would say check out the live version of Pushit from the Salival album. Talk about a whole ass vibe.
Just so y'all don't get messed up later there are some songs that the fans will get real upset if you don't listen to them together. Parabol/Parabola Disposition/Reflection/Triad Wings for Marie/ 10000 Days Lost Keys/ Rosetta Stoned
Ok.. hold up just a sec.. I'm sure that y'all have already been bombard in the comments about this and while I do agree that, in general concept, usually the very first exposure to any song should be just the audio version without the added distraction from any visual stimulation that was ,most likely a product of the creative overlay of other people's interpretation from listening to the music and, more often the whole process of which is outside of the musicians control! (I know.. rant, rant.. anywhos.. my point being..) BUT.. This song.. oh, with THIS masterpiece of a song.. in order to fully and truly appreciate how absolutely mind blowing this song really is, you Need the video! And I'm not talking about the official video here.. no! I'm talking about the video entitled "TOOL- Fibonacci in Lateralus,Golden Ratio, SPIRAL OUT!!!" (Written just like that!) The imagery in the video is set to a whole bunch of photos that the Hubble Telescope has taken throughout the years but, while that's all cool and stuff, what's necessary about having to watch this particular video is in the text that's displayed across the bottom of the screen whilst the song plays! I'm not going to bother trying to explain it here so go ahead and look for yourself and discover a whole new depth of possibilities music could have the potential to offer! Lol!
Love you guys! Tool fanatic here for anything Tool. Yes i am cliche passionate but i prefer to think i have always been intense and looking for musicians who step up to be worthy of love. Likewise you earned my sub today.
@@melodyk377 If you really want your mind blown about this album and specifically this song, look up "Tool - Holy Gift". The whole album may be a math problem to be solved using the Fibonacci sequence. The songs can be re-arranged and a couple parts overlapped to hear this album the "better way". Some left brain to go along with your right brain.
Great reaction! Fun fact, the syllabification of the lyrics follow the fibonacci sequence. There is a video explaining it, that is, if you want to overthink it. I recommend lyric videos as they are expertly crafted as the instruments. New sub
I always said TOOL is the best sex my brain ever had!! lol spiral out on their controlled chaos. Its so crazy how their music is so hard hitting yet soothing at the same time right? I think the best way for me to describe their music is...."Soul satisfying!"
Tool fans can be very intense. And very serious. Please don't let them bother you or turn you off the band. Just enjoy music. I love tool but I'm never going to be an ass over them. Some need to chill.
Not sure if you like psychedelics. But the next time you decide to react to tool you should do lost keys (blame Hoffman) and the following song Rosetta Stoned. In order and have the lyrics pulled up. It's my favorite tool experience 😜 btw new sub here. Spiral out!
Naw, I think "a whole ass vibe" might be appropriate here. There's nothing out there like Tool, they're all geniuses, and the first bass player was as well.
You guys seems to be musicians. I wonder why you didn't know Tool? I thought its about lesson 1 to learn from this band. Even its not your actual kinda thing. It should be part of practice to listen Tool as a warm-up.
We listen to more rap, and hip hop more so. R&b is my all time favorite. We’ve heard of tool but never really sat down and listened to their music. Now that we have we’ve been learning more and more and are FINALLY listening lol watch our music change for the better 🤘🏽🤘🏽 TOOL is the shit! Check out our other reactions it’s been an experience for us!!

Glad y'all are enjoying them. TOOL is in a class by themselves. They haven't created a bad song.
one of the greatest Rock-Songs and Lyrics ever written. Greets from the TOOL-Army, german chapter.
