I remember when I first started feeding the birds, it was early September. I couldn't figure out why birds weren't finding it when I had it laid out on a topless seed tray. I learned that need was a factor when temperatures plummeted in November. My feeders were swamped.
The humming bird and bloom photo reminded me that humming birds really like catnip blooms . My wife has a large area of it and birds are all over the blooms and it grows like a weed nice and easy.
@@carolstella6776 They do bath in even extremely cold conditions. They have to keep their feathers healthy all year. Their scaled legs repel water quickly as do their feathers. They preen them, shake and most of the water is gone.
I dont have room to store seed in freezer cause I need it for my food also. I took feeders in backyard down so house sparrows would get the hint. I think a few visit.
I have about 15 arborvitae that are over 10 feet tall and am amazed at the number of birds that take up residence.
They provide great cover.
I have so many birds coming to my backyard due to the fires in Southern California. I am having to refill them several times a week….

It also attracts cats!
Do birds bathe in heated birdbaths? Wouldn’t that be harmful in the winter? Just wondering.
