This is my ultimate summer vibe anthem. AS well as "in too deep". They give you this blue-orange feel of pools, sun, skating, blue sky and hot weather. Absolutely love it.
this song is by far the best of ULs work. the production on it is amazing, and it's such an obvious wallace mix. largely what stands out to me is their use of modulation between the riff/chorus and the verses/bridge, and then the refrain layered with the chromatic run as he sings "i'm still lonesome" really gets it to genius level in my opinion. just a tremendous work in the genre, and really quite a rare gem in regards to notoriety.
Strung Out puts this band to shame. And I love Unwritten Law. But talent-wise, UL is middle of the road. Scott's voice carried this band a long way. Don't get me wrong, I love UL. My first dance with my wife at our wedding was "Rest of my life." But there are several other bands that blow UL out of the water when it comes to skill and lyrics.
Nothin beats the memories from punk rock music like this. And i'm just a 26 year old kid from Indiana. Thanks UL for what you did for my past, and i carry on music like this to my future.
True story. I remember watching this on a morning music show. I loved it instantly but I missed the name of the band and song so it would be years before I came across it again. My favourite active band.
It's awesome to see this area of downtown San Diego before it got gentrified. That empty lot on the corner they stop at is now a Seven Eleven, and directly behind the camera is Petco Park where the Padres play.
7-11 as gentrification is hilarious to me; the first sign my neighborhood was getting kinda gentrified was that all the 7-11s closed down. honestly the replacement was better though so i cant complain too hard.
gdwfhgsshyrn that’s funny. I agree I like it better now, just cool to see how it looked in the past. Don’t know what that other guy in my replies is going on about lol
That 7-11 is intended for those rich hipsters that live in that area and 7-11 are everywhere. But I miss the old Downtown where it was real locals walking through expressing themselves to their hearts poored all in the walls but now it’s just too many transplants that will move out anyway cuz they ran out of money
From what I can tell UL and Blink were friendly. Both from the San Diego area. Love the reference in the vid though. And if i remember, in the Blink song Josie they reference "She likes UL..."
This video was filmed in 1998. The streaking blink-182 video came out in 1999 or 2000. It's just a coincidence. Blink-182 and Unwritten Law were good acquaintances, respected and Blink-182 helped promote them.
I was at warped tour 99 on the gold coast, all I can remember is mighty mighty boss tones and pennywise and being slung out of a mosh pit lol. Was one of the best gigs I have ever been to. I can't remember if unwritten law were there but I think they were at the Sydney gig on that same tour. Punk rock these days just isnt on the same level as all these bands were back then. It was a great time.
@@bennybootz84 i saw them at gravity games in perth 2004 (which would later become the Soundwave festival) with mxpx and some other bands. Cool concert.
Yeah, this album was straight fire when it came out, and everyone knew it. The live shows were awesome too! The band always had the best sound guys, and played so tight, they never messed up their parts. They are tight music. The shows were even better if you were a teen fangirl crushing on members of the band.😹

My wife and I determined that they walk from Island Avenue to J St, but you can no longer figure out what street they walked down for the majority of the video because the area has been developed since Petco Park was constructed and opened in 2004. We suspect they walked down one of the single digit streets based on the tall buildings in the background at the beginning and ending of the video.
You're probably right. But this video was filmed in 1998 or 1999. From what i've heard they made a lot of new buildings in that area thats why it doesnt look the same anymore.
You are correct. If you look at the building on the corner of 9th and J, the brick pillars (protruding the roof line) of it in the video match the structure that's standing there today. The lamp post outside the building corresponds too. Yellow hydrant locations at corners of Island/9th and J/9th make sense too. These wouldn't change.
Referring the video again, the building to the left (actually behind and left) of the 4 x 3 window one i mentioned above is the current day Ballpark Self Storage joint. The roof line matches.
Always felt like Unwritten Law was one of those bands that failed to launch. I mean someone counted down but when the button was pressed for ignition it stayed grounded.
The video shows the band simply walking towards the camera, with only two doing anything noticeable, singer Scott Russo sings the song, along with strange arm movements and the end of choruses, and guitarist Steve Morris continuously beating up everyone that passes for no reason. The video includes a blink-182 parody from the "What's My Age Again?" video. Blink mentioned Unwritten Law in their song "Josie" with the line, "And my girlfriend likes U.L
@AL13NSEX1ST yeaah i thought so to, but i couldn't find anything on the internet about them doing a peformance in this vid, but you can recognize them by there tattoos :P (anyway there both great bands)

And that was 18 years before musical.ly became popular
Grew up in Poway watching UL play house parties. Rob, Wade, Jon Bell and Nate Claar on mic. circa ‘90. So much fun.
When MXPX hosted rage, a music show in Aus, a million years back, they played this, and fat out, I played the skin of this CD.
yeah I remember that
Ahhh take me back to the days when an Ollie over a milk crate was a life goal
They have a new album coming out hell yeah! Can’t wait
wait what??? I was living under the rock probably
My dad is the one with the gray shirt and black sunglasses in the very back 😂😂😂
#1 dad, mirite

While I'm here, but I don't want to stay
Cause you're not around and I'm feeling lonely
Same old episode for me, heading for catastrophe.
And I can see that it's
Association with the past
So think about it
It's like a time that did not last
Don't move so fast
Don't run, cause you might find out,
Find out I'm the one
And I still feel lonesome
Nothing's changed, it just gets rearranged
When you come around
So now, what's your story
You were never there for me
So I'm going out to see
Cause I can see that it's
Association with the past
So think about it
It's like a time that did not last
Don't move so fast
Don't run, cause you might find out,
Find out I'm the one
(Yeah) And I still feel lonesome
Go go go
Yeah
Now you're here
But I don't want to stay
Cause you weren't around
And now you say you're sorry
And nothing's changed
It's just been rearranged
So stay down, just stay down.
Association with the past
So think about it
It's like a time that did not last
Don't move so fast
Don't run, cause you might find out,
Find out I'm the one
And I still feel lonesome
Well I still lonesome
Yeah
I still lonesome.
