I Carried a Colt 1911 in the Army as an MP in the mid 70s. I have been hooked on 1911s ever since, and now own 9 of them. Best semi auto pistol ever made in my opinion. Great job restoring this Remington. To see one so pitted is very sad.
I will echo the sentiment of previous commenters by saying why some people would allow that pistol to be so neglected. But since we don’t know the previous owners situation or mindset we shouldn’t judge them too harshly. You and your extensive skill set were able to resurrect an old warhorse and give it a new life and purpose. I own a Remington from a similar time period. It’s been well taken care of by me over the 50 years I’ve had it and will continue to serve with my son. Outstanding restoration!!!!! Thanks for sharing your video with us.

Agreed. I watched a similar video with no dialogue on the restoration of a M1A Garand that was pulled from the Riene River and was fully rusted and rotted. Was a thing of beauty to see it made proud of the soldier that carried it!!
He said it was made in 1945, so it probably did not see any war time action. Probably got smuggled off post stateside by some enlisted man, who shot a few bottles with it before he used it to rob the local liquor store then stashed it at his old folks barn afterward and that is where it has been sitting since.
A bit overdramatized on the disassembly don’t you think? The hammer was unnecessary. Ever hear of a bushing wrench? Kroil would’ve loosened all those rust frozen parts. I know. I’ve done the same restoration.

I have one of these. It was my grandfather’s service pistol I inherited after he passed…it’s in excellent condition and rust free all I had to do was replace the worn out buffer spring and it shoots ever bit as good as my modern Remington R1.
Awesome story, I have my great grandfathers uniforms and his Calvary saber. His 1911 was unfortunately stolen from his home years ago. Enjoy that 1911!
I noticed as well and agree. It functions with purpose and well timed snap; not beating the action to death, but no soft slow-mo slide action from 3.5 gr of Bullseye H&G 168 softballs.
She may not be as pretty as she was in 1945,but no less deadly. GREAT addition to the collection and another nicely done restoration!😊 My son has a WWII RR 1911 A1 I purchased in the early 1960's from DCM for the insane price of $21.50. In great shape except for holster wear.
@@michelmendoza1769 Were you ten years old at the time? Its not like it is a Howitzer. Before they added the beaver tail, you might get some hammer bite on the webbing of your thumb, but it is not a hard weapon to shoot.
Another nice restoration. Too bad about the obnoxious pitting. As along as it still works and cycles properly, it is indeed a work horse, tested through time. Love the little Kentucky Ballistics slapping of the clear ballistics gel lol!

I have one of these Remington's. My father carried it in WW2, my brother carried it in Nam, and I carried it for several years as well. Amazing piece and still protecting my home and family!
For those who might not know Remington Rand was a manufacturer of typewriters. One of many manufacturers who switched production of their signature products to make military equipment. Other makers of 1911 handguns were Union Switch & Signal company who were makers of railway switch equipment and the Singer sewing machine company.
Remington-Rand made more 1911A1 pistols than any other contractor, including Colt. All the more impressive since Colt made them for approximately 20 years(after transitioning from the 1911) while RR only made them for about three years.
There was also some made in Canada but they never were issued because the war has ended. That was WW1. They only made 500 of those I believe. They ended up in civilian hands at some point.
You gotcha a good one guys. Those things are built like a tank. I bought a Remington Rand 1911A1 in 1971 that had some pitting on the slide. I paid $100 for it, wish I still had it.
i have a remington rand 45 paid $15 for it and $15 for an M1 carbine. I ordered them from either the NRA or DCM. They arrived via the USMail together in a cardboard box (no padding) in, i think, the mid to early 60s. Those were the good old days. I still have both.
Beautiful old war horse brought back to life only if it had been found about 60 years earlier because Remington Rands are rare,,, Another Great Restoration.

I have a Remington 1911 my grandpa gave me. It’s one of my prized possessions. I tore it down to clean it just like this. Definitely had to research it but I got it. Mines in pristine condition.

I owned a Remington Rand a long time ago. So it was equally sad but also really great to see this one come back to usefulness. The two-tone look was really nice as well.
This came out decent it's a shame that it's so pitted but she shots well may have to change the barrel although you were hitting the target thank you for sharing this with us six stars brother
I've been critical of some of the finishing methods you use in your restorations before, but this was very well executed. You did a fantastic job with this pistol, and I'm glad you parkerized it instead of hot-bluing. Honestly, I'm surprised the barrel was able to stabilize the bullets and provide acceptable accuracy given the pitting.
Usually 45's are pretty stable in flight, maybe where the center of mass is placed in those 230gr ball bullets? idk, but it's not the first 45 with bad rifling I see being accurate anyways.
Very nice! It is good to see that old girl singing once again....😊 Did you "blue" it? The pistol looks a bit darker in the shots where you are firing it...I imagine it makes the pitting less noticeable...good job!

I've been critical of some of the finishing methods you use in your restorations before, but this was very well executed. You did a fantastic job with this pistol, and I'm glad you parkerized it instead of hot-bluing. Honestly, I'm surprised the barrel was able to stabilize the bullets and provide acceptable accuracy given the pitting.

Usually 45's are pretty stable in flight, maybe where the center of mass is placed in those 230gr ball bullets? idk, but it's not the first 45 with bad rifling I see being accurate anyways.
