It's so refreshing to see a vlog showing failure turn into success. The internet is so full of success only videos that it's good to see the real process that artists go through to produce their work.
Right? As an artist in this social media paradigm of seeming perfection, I have to always remind myself that there is much that people intentionally do not show, and to not feel bad about my process and shortcomings, and just to keep keeping at it.
Great video and awesome area to become inspired. I live in the Southwest of the USA, Arizona. We are lucky we still have a number of wild herds of Horses in the U.S. One particular herd is known as the Salt River Herd. There's a lot of photos of them on the net. Watching this video has inspired me to take a trip down there and do some painting also.
It’s clear this one will top the bar and land on that epic level as most of your works do! I’m fascinated with your preparation and the level of effort you put into composition before you tackle a massive canvas like this. Grateful for your willingness to share your process and techniques!
Just love. Camping trip, thank you for bringing us alone! I wouldn't have took nothing for my journey. LOL as always love you videos. Love your talent, love your attitude, love your humor, you're such a cutie pie. Thank you, thank you.
Everybody should have the vision of an artist to admire and notice all the details of nature that is the source of a spirit of gratitude that makes life much more richer
dude you are insane! not just the way you really study a subject, but your afford to make this videos have this super quality. Also the situation you put yourself pushing the limits. With all the digital information we have, plain air is even more important. Also and good humor no matter what. you truly inspiring not just a painter but also a human bean too.
Andrew, I am pleased that I subscribed to your emails so that I keep up with your work. I am a big fan of yours. My wife and I just retired to France and my painting “gear” is enroute on the high seas, though I’m quite a beginner. I can’t help but wonder where the remainder of your life will take you, what beauty you we create, and how many gifts of your art will populate this earth. You inspire and enrich. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and encouragement.
The detail on the dappled grey is amazing and that is coming from an 87 year old farm boy who remembers his horses! Not to say that the rest of the painting as it stands at the end of this video is any thing less! Looking forward to the finished product.
What an inspiration you are ! Quatt-Roux from SA . Your passion, humility and honesty alone inspire me to pursue my passion for painting . Sometimes I just want to give up because it is such hard work and demands dedication and perseverance at such a high level. I often think I am just not good enough, that is why it's hard and then I see what you put in and I know it does take so much drive . Had my eyes tested and look forward to the next project with my new specs ! I am 68 and am pursuing my life long passion ! Thanks so much ! Love your heart and soul in your work !
This has been my favorite video so far I think. There was adventures outside, drawing sketches and playing around! It is really good to see your process Andrew, happy painting to you. Great work
Man! I am not sure you ever do something half-way, or ever stop growing for that matter. Every new video leaves me stunned! Keep up the excellent work, you are a talented man!
WOW! Watched the 24 hour challenge yesterday with these horses and now have to see the finished result. The process is phenomenal Your a (hard working) genius! Thanks so much for posting all your beautiful work.
You are a great artist, but also a great person. The way you interact with nature and art is simply magnificent. In each of your paintings there is all love, passion, hours of work, failure, the desire to try to build again, insecurity, missed opportunities and much more. You are a 360 degree artist. I really enjoyed this video.
The thumbnail sketches and paintings are awesome unto themselves. really enjoy watching your process, despite the tears, disappointments, frustrations,, joys, the wet boots and mosquito bites and sleepless nights, your dogged determination and prevalence pays off in spades.
So many preparations just to get to the actual painting. I find myself digging deep into the research, the planning, and even using the digital process as well. I’ve been working with Photoshop and other digital software, to do exactly what you’re doing. The beauty of this process is that no matter how much you put into this process, you are not committed to it. You can go back and change anything to fit your needs. Finding elements and adding them into the digital art can be tricky if they wind up looking “placed” into the composition, instead of being natural looking. You have the knack of getting it right every time. Love your work, and love how you arrive at the end product!
I'm such a fly by the seat of my pants person and artist I have all but given up hope of doing things this way...also I really love the ability to just make a decision that completely changes what I had in mind and alters nearly every idea I previously planned to paint. I do this in my livestream quite a bit. If I had more viewers they would probably say it gives an anxiety attacks but I used to paint afraid of messing things up...now I paint fearlessly well almost .
You are an incredible artist no matter what media you use. Thank you for sharing your story & process of creating your art. It's wonderful to see how you work & encouraging to know that you don't just snap your fingers & have the perfect composition. And congratulations on your new bundle of joy!
I am an award-winning painter. I have bought one of your online landscape painting tutorial videos. Very impressed. Would likely to buy this one as well when it comes out.
Thanks for sharing. And the 24 hour challenge is certainly not a healthy idea. Your video was again really full of humor information and the feeling of we can do even better.
Absolutely love this video. Learned so much. You are the most talented artist on every topic you choose to paint. Beautiful. Thank you so much for these videos. Entertaining and educational. Always learn something new when I watch your videos.
Goodness me... Those digital paintings have such an incredibly painterly quality to them! You're a true inspiration Mr Tischler. Keep up the incredible educational content!
Wow! I was so engrossed in this video I lost track of time! Amazing journey on how you select the components and composition! I think you are one of arts modern greats! Fantastic 🤌
Hey, Good to see that mosquito netting Man! You prepared so well and I just have to shake my head at the weather and a leaky tent but at least you learned a few more precautions and testing. I had to laugh though at the river crossing change of plans that went without you being informed. Ugh! Such gorgeous rainbows! I've not seen a full one in too many years here and I used to see them everywhere. Many thanks for sharing and all your experience is beyond words. I loved your methods of getting the herd of horses and you really do your homework! Thanks so much as always for sharing Andrew. Love the videos. Great work!
Love the breakdowns and how much preparation is revealed in making something great. Your digital design skills are so good. So useful too I bet to mock things this way.
What a beautiful process! I absolutely love your videos. I’ve been subscribed for almost a couple years and have always enjoyed them, but you’re becoming my favorite youtuber!
Oh my gosh Andrew! I am a painter of the wild horses. This video is epic and I learned so much from you. I have been to Utah, Colorado and Wyoming to photograph the wild horses there. Wyoming at Salt Wells Creek had some of the most beautiful horses I have seen so far. I can't wait to see the progression on this. Thank you!
Amazing, beautiful, I bought one of your DVDs and plan on purchasing another one, you are one of my painting Heroes and totally admire you and look up to you Jim . Nova Scotia , Canada
Another Great video. Your sketches are just mind blowing. BTW, For an early Christmas gift...my son just gave me the Andrew Tischler set of brushes from RoseMaryandco. So good. I'm an old dog at 52 trying to get back in touch with my artistic side and my son has just been the best support. He's bought me a set of oil paints, an easel, a grey scale palette, and now the brushes. Thanks for the inspiration Andrew, I watch you and Sam a lot, sometimes repeatedly just to keep myself excited about painting when things don't go as expected. I'm currently going frame by frame thru your Epic mountain video after finishing the waves videos...so glad I bought them, I've learned so much in just a few short months. Thank you!
This mans pencil studies and thumbnail sketches are better than my complete drawings. I’m amazing how he can just sketch an anatomically correct looking horse so fast. I wonder how many times he’s drawn a horse to get to that point
It seems like an epic artist like Andrew Tischler aslo has some haters, seeing dislike in a video like this certainly breaks my heart, thank you for sharing your valuable work ❤️🌼
Really struck by the interaction between the horses and the viewer, I live with horses and really interested in their ‘language’, what comes over is how relaxed they are with each other and like you comment in the video, the center animal gazing back includes the viewer in the herd, personal experience gives me a sense of how they would relate to each other naturally in this scene, the facial and body posture you’ve caught is so natural to a group feeling relaxed and safe, which makes me feel as a viewer really comfortable whereas if you had detailed even small details like ear positions differently the horses could have appeared uncomfortable and given me an uncomfortable uneasy feel about the painting, hope that makes sense, well done beautiful and very arresting painting, can’t wait for next episode
I LOVE your paintings, and how you show the processes you go through to produce such beautiful artworks, and wow you sure put in the prep work! Big lesson for me as I am always too impatient, and and rush in and then spend most of my time trying to correct🙄.. thank you for all that you share of your self, your life and your artwork .. truly inspirational 🙏💖🐎
So beautiful. If I hadn't seen you work on it. I would have argued that it was a photo. I love scenery an this picture is amazing, I would be happy with it on my wall, subscribed so I don't miss anything.
Wow- I have spent so many years denying my horse painting. I felt it wasn't "real" art. It is really what I want to paint and now I will! I always enjoy watching artistic process - I take lots of pics as I go so I can look back on how I got to where I end up! If you know what I mean - sometimes I can't remember how I ended up with the composition etc. Thanks for all the great videos - I always learn something new... I can't imagine doing digital but it looks pretty fun!
This is so amazing!! I’m a new subscriber just getting back into my artwork after suffering an acquired brain injury. I’m glad you talked about digital art because that’s my go to medium these days. I love Procreate, and I watch tutorials in both actual and digital art to inspire me to draw more. I absolutely love your tutorials on RUclips, and only discovered you last week. I was undecided on what to paint next, and you’ve inspired me to continue with my horse portrait. Greetings from Western Australia 🇦🇺
Amazing and so inspirational to listen to you and be able to share in your experiences as an artist! Thanks too for the explanation of using digital art and how it is valid as an artist tool today.
24 hour challenge eh? In the digital art industry we call that Tuesday... Or is that just me? No but seriously, when I just started painting digitally, I was just so hapii to have the opportunity and I was so excited about one painting that was doing well that I stayed with it for 21 hours straight. That set the precedent for all the coming years. Because when there are lot of work hours needed to produce your best work but the deadline is set, the only option is to take those challenges once in a while. Worth it every time.
I have a health issue called gullian Barre Syndrome and sometimes it's hard to get moving so when I do get in a groove I hate to quit because it's bedtime. I used to bartend so staying up till the break of dawn is still one of my favorite things.
WOW Love the painting thus far God Bless you the new baby and the new art work .Thanks for the video very inspirational .Hay make sure you get your sleep not to many of those 24 hour gigs .
Amazing work as always! I SO appreciated how you advocated for the digital sketch - frankensteining reference images into a final composition has been a real game changer for my process. the beautiful quick sketches of horses in this vid reveal the true depth of andrews abilities.

Andrew Tischler - Composition Hunter. What a creative adventure. Very inspiring.
Loved hearing about the whole adventure and process, Andrew! Beautiful work, as always!!
As usual great work Andrew!
This is the most magnificent piece of work I've seen in a long time. Amazing. Absolutely breathtaking. You are incredibly skilled.

Genius as you are Andrew borning once per 100 years... I know what I'm talking about...
Amazing work as always! I SO appreciated how you advocated for the digital sketch - frankensteining reference images into a final composition has been a real game changer for my process.
