After struggling with this update, I find this video extremely helpful. If I may offer a bit of unsolicited feedback, this is my first experience doing a firmware update on a Boss product and find it needlessly complex and the written instructions utterly inadequate for Mac users. There needs to be some serious review of this process to make the experience seamless for ALL users. You should simply plug in a USB and an install wizard takes over walking you thru the procedure.
Or a Bluetooth iOS/android app?
Seems like the Tone studio for Katana Mk1:s, became obsolete as soon as we upgraded to an M1 Mac Big Sur. Nice to know in future buyings of Boss products. Boss should learn from e.g: Line 6 flagship Helix support & upgrades. And yet tone studio for Big Sur still under testing...after so long time as Tone studio and Mk2 get updates. I won't buy another Boss product that need any kind of software to use in it's full potential next time, that's for sure.

This is my second and really looking forward to learning this one! I love that this is a TONE first amp and you can tell!! Sounds so so good!!!!
Austin, thank you so much for this video it was extremely helpful. First I downloaded the software, then took me forever to find the right driver and then I had to do a firmware update LOL. I have had this 100w MKII for months and I love it just the on board effects. Now after downloading the Tone Studio I can see how this will be so much easier to prepare for live shows. I wish I knew about the noise gate much much sooner. Too bad it's not an on board function but I am sure there is a technical reason behind that. I also wish you folks supplied a much longer USB cable. I have to basically put my laptop on top of the amp, not very ideal. Anyway, not to be a complainer, I love this amp!

I know right?! haven’t owned a PC/laptop in like 7yrs (haven’t needed one) but just started playing guitar 6/months ago and realized how a lot of new electronics require firmware updates etc.. finally had to break down and bought a base model MacBook Air M2… lightest weight laptop…plus I have iPhone

As a first time buyer of a Strat type amp, I liked this idea, but I went against it as I didn't want to be a slave to software. Maybe later. For now its time to focus on learning to play.

Damn… my MacBook Air m2 doesn’t have a USB-A port… Will a USB-B to USB-C cable work?
Edit: So I bought a Xsonic airship Kat and they gave me a USB-B to USB-C cable.... been busy with work and didn't get a chance to get the MacBook Air m2 adapter. However using this cable I followed the instructions and it seemed to work the same as he did it except with a USB-B to usb-c cable! Now I have to learn how to use tone studio, my new Boss RC-5 Looper, XSONIC air step KAT and my GASFC-EX foot switch? Maybe all of that's not possible but I can definitely use a foot switch and RC-5 looper!
Guys, the katana is missing an on board guitar tuner , I hope this could be added via firmware update in the near future
I think they need to polish the app more before they do anything… make it more like the Spark. The app seems unnecessary complicated and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t have Bluetooth in this amp, especially since they just released the 50 MKII EX with very minimal changes. Just started a punk rock band with some guys at work and I’m looking for a decent sounding amp that can cut through a drum kit and I can gig with. I’ve heard the MKII 50 and MKII 100 are both great choices and they sell these at a fair price. I just bought a MacBook Air M2 so now I have way to update these solid state amps and shape the tone better. I only have the Yamaha THR10II for now but at least I can use my iPhone and shape the tone by adding compression, noise gate etc. the Yamaha app isn’t great and has some Bluetooth connectivity issues but it works and the Yamaha THR10II is probably the best sounding SS-practice amp I’ve ever heard… wish they made that in a 50w. But I know Boss is a kick a$$ company that makes quality gear. I played for a few months when I was 16-17 in like 1997… got a Fender Squire and a Marshal DSL15 or 20 for $300 from my brother’s friend. My first pedal was a *Boss DOD-FX69 Grunge pedal!!!* I remember not knowing what I was doing and figuring out how to set it up… light turned red and then 💥 I hit a power chord and I just listened to it ring in amazement… so this is how I can sound like Kurt Cobain 🤘!!! Wish I still had that Marshall DSL tube… they’re like $800-$1000 now. The remember the quality and craftsmanship on that Boss DOD Grunge pedal, turning those metal knobs you could feel the precision and the most excellent machining… felt like it could’ve been a knob in a fighter jet or a NASA space shuttle. I wish they made a tube amp that has the attenuation of these SS amps
Hey thank you for the video. I'm on the 50MKII version. And I have a little problem during the drag and drop process. It tells me that I don't have enough storage for that. I think the previous version of the software is still there and block this step. If you have an idea it will be great. Thank you by advance and thank you again for this tutorial.

Awe man… just joined a band and I need a budget-ish amp that can cut through our drummer. The MKII 50 or 100 was top of my list… literally bought a MacBook Air M2 so I have a computer to use with it 😮… we play Pop-Punk and I need to be able to get loud crisp distortion to go with our drummer
@@greg6162 I run my katana 50 into a rack amp qsc 300. 300 ×2 at 4ohms or 8 ohm bridge. Run through 2 12's Mesa boogie BS Electrovoice
Finally got software to work.Keep turning everything off and retrying the same process. Took about forever but it eventually just worked. Didn't do anything different. Computers suck. I had the amp a year before it decided to work with my apple computer

Can we get a MacBook Air how to. I still can use BTS with my new Katana MK2 head. Follow instructions to a T and still get a MIDI in/out error when hooked up to laptop.

Hey there Support how are you? So... I have a buzzing in my Katana MK2, i tried the NS and didnt worked. I changed wall plugs but the buzzing wont stop and I cant play my guitar like that. Is there anythig you guys recommend me to do? Ive had my Katana for a couple years now and never had this issue until last night. Hope you can help me thanks!

As you say at 2:05 min of the video I push the blinking panel button , the effects lights start blinking but they go on and never become green 😬 , can you help me ?
