PART 4: PAINTING BACKDROPS

- In Part 4, the painting in of foreground trees is done in real time. This moves the previous part (fields and hills) back farther into the scene yet again increasing depth. By simple strokes forests can be created so you do not have to build so many scale trees.

It is always interesting how backdrops fuel the imagination. Your brain fills in all the detail that is not there and you end up with a perspective that would not be there without it. Nice thing about painting is you can go back and change or add what you want. And if push comes to shove you can get out the roller and repaint it blue and start again. Thanks for the kind words

In this video series I did the painting and my Wife Lela did the Camera Work. Most of the other videos I did the Camera and interviewing/hosting at the same time. Happy you enjoyed the series.

Thanks, your video is quite helpful ! I want to depict fall with some color in the hills. I'm also only wanting to have deciduous trees in the foreground. Not sure how to approach these subjects but will experiment.
For the foreground trees I used full strength yellow with a small amount of mars black
Used the round brushes again and worked in puffs from the top down like I did with the fan brush
You could use orange or red mixed with various browns
@@CNLVN What I was thinking and will have to try on practice board. Thinking about trying a fine brush and fan brush to try some foreground deciduous trees.

I'm sure I have to give it a try. I already tried on smaller parts. The only problem I see is to get the right brush for these blob blob. I tried a couple but still looking for the right. Thank you for a great instruction.

+Crystal Yes and I use a different colour palette ..Mre a mix of ochre white and burnt umber.. For the distance I thin the paint and use broad strokes on the horizontal plane then as I get closer I use full strength stipple and close highlights. keep the colours varied. I also add some of my green mixture to bring in those shades.

The fall colors should not exceed 25% of the scene. I used the same techniques
