Listening to this beautiful song is like listening to a portrait of the gospel. I pray that I could search out all the scriptures alluded to in this song and share these truths with others. Praise to our wonderful Savior and Lord!

This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard and is quickly becoming a favorite. How I pray everyone could know God’s love. I am overwhelmed by such a price Jesus paid.

Double imputation - my sins were all accounted for and imputed onto Christ, and, and His righteousness imputed onto me. A blessed Redeemer indeed - Robes of Beauty, Not mine Own!

    HIS ROBES FOR MINE
His robes for mine: O wonderful exchange!
Clothed in my sin, Christ suffered ‘neath God’s rage.
Draped in His righteousness, I’m justified.
In Christ I live, for in my place He died.
    Chorus:
I cling to Christ, and marvel at the cost:
Jesus forsaken, God estranged from God.
Bought by such love, my life is not my own.
My praise-my all-shall be for Christ alone.
His robes for mine: what cause have I for dread?
God’s daunting Law Christ mastered in my stead.
Faultless I stand with righteous works not mine,
Saved by my Lord’s vicarious death and life.
His robes for mine: God’s justice is appeased.
Jesus is crushed, and thus the Father’s pleased.
Christ drank God’s wrath on sin, then cried, “’Tis done!”
Sin’s wage is paid; propitiation won.
His robes for mine: such anguish none can know.
Christ, God’s beloved, condemned as though His foe.
    He, as though I, accursed and left alone;
I, as though He, embraced and welcomed home!

There is one major doctrinal error in this otherwise beautiful song: "God estranged from God". No, absolutely not! The One Who was and is God became man, and as a man He was estranged from the Father. Jesus did not die as God, but as a man for men. God did not die. God cannot die. The Godhead never has been divided, and never will be. This is not merely semantics. It is an important truth: There is NO division in the Godhead. But the great truth of imputed righteousness is emphasized in the song, and that is the greatest blessing sinners can know: We are clothed in His perfect righteousness.
