My wife passed away into her Savior's arms two months ago from an aggressive cancer 11 days past her 39th birthday, and this was one of the hymns we sung during her memorial service. This performance was one of the things that inspired me and my two sons to include it.
May God bless you and your family as you grieve and process this loss, may the Grace, peace and comfort abide with you. I pray you will cling to Christ alone, and find joy once again . Blessings.
It is a wonderful exchange for the Remnant who receive the benefit of Gods averted justice. It does not sound like it was too wonderful for the recipient of that justice who was crushed. Yet Isaiah 53 says it PLEASED YHVH to crush him. Wow. What a great Hymn and so thought provoking.
This hymn and "And Can It Be?" are my two favorites. This incredible hymn is humbling in how it tells what Jesus did for me. The just for the unjust. The worthy for the unworthy. May I always be grateful for the free gift that cost me nothing but cost Jesus everything.
Ever since I heard this hymn at the Shepherd's Conference, I was hoping Hymns of Grace would sing this hymn. How powerful the chorus compounds and resounds with each verse sung! I cannot sing, "He, as though I, accursed and left alone; I, as though He, embraced and welcomed home!" without weeping every time. May we forever understand our Lord's sacrifice and work on the cross aright so that we can only say with full gratitude and humility, "Bought by such love, my life is not my own; My praise, my all, shall be for Christ alone."
Thanks Phil, et al, for singing this as written. I seem to remember (although I may be wrong) that when this hymn was first introduced to the congregation at GCC, we sang the last 3 notes of the chorus ("...Christ alone.") D, D, D, as it's written in the hymn book. So not sure how we started singing E, D, D (last Sunday, for example). I prefer the original, but it's hard to stop a moving train. I'm sure the Lord is honored with an "E" as well as a "D"... Thanks again for a lovely rendition.
You sing like those in ancient days of the reformers❤ Today's so called Christian music is nothing but a bedlam of noise. Emotionalism has killed Christian music 🎶 of today.

There _is_ good Christian music being written today; you just don't hear it on the radio.
The Lyrics are beautiful . The music is otherworldly. The Lord leaves us His witness even in this wicked generation. John Froelich Ph.D mathematics
Draped in His righteousness, I’m justified. In Christ I live for in my place He died.
